Venge, Winemaker Cooperage Aged for 22 months in 100% French oak, 50% new Tasting Notes We’ve been talking a lot over the last few years about great vintages. We’ve spoken often about the richness and generosity of 12 and waxed poetic about the structure and depth of 13. Well, we sincerely hope you have a love of broken records, because here comes 14. The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is not beholden to the vintages that have come before it, this wine has a beauty and power all its own. The nose is driven by boisterous dark cherry and blackberry notes with hints of milk chocolate and toasted vanilla beans. The palate is greeted swiftly by a bramble of blackberry compote and hints of bright cherry paired with a subtle suggestion of pipe tobacco and toasted oak. The mid-palate is rich, with a continuation of the deep black fruit notes which linger into the long finish and merge with smooth dusty tannins. 2014 is shaping up to be a truly powerful vintage, the fruit notes are dominant and the tannins are youthfully engaging. This wine and vintage will certainly reward those with the patience to allow for 10+ years of bottle time. As they say, patience is a virtue, but then again, who needs virtue when great wine is on the table. Drink this when you are ready, decant with vigor over the next 5 years and confidently enjoy to 2028. Left Bank Napa Valley 2018 WINEMAKER NOTES 2018 was a dream growing season and harvest for Napa Valley. An abundance of rain in February was followed by continuous days of sunshine and mild temperatures that made for uniform vines and even cluster growth. With no major heat spikes to contend with, there was no need to rush through harvest. Cooler temperatures allowed us to pick when we wanted, without stress and under optimal conditions. The gift from Mother Nature translated to wines that not only have great concentration but also an amazing freshness. ABOUT THE VINEYARD Our winemakers, influenced by their winemaking experience in the heralded region of Bordeaux, blended five distinct varietals most commonly used in Médoc in deliberate proportions for our Left Bank Napa Valley 2018. The Cabernet Sauvignon, the dominant grape in this wine, hails from a variety of appellations, including St. Helena, Rutherford, Atlas Peak, Oakville and Yountville. Each sub-AVA brings its own unique terroir and characteristics, thus allowing our winemakers to craft a wine with complex and rich aromatics and lingering flavors. Perfumed, almost feminine notes of strawberry and raspberry tart dance on the edge of the glass with darker cassis, black cherry and vanilla adding layers to the nose and hinting at the beast within. On the entry, volumes of supple bright cherry, plum and blueberry pie rush to the fore and linger well into the mid-palate. As the tannins begin to wash over and meld with the bright fruit notes, soft secondary flavors of milk chocolate and pie crust coat the palate and provide harmonious balance through the finish. This wine shows great promise and speaks well for 2013 as a year with great aging potential. While 2012 was a bombastic show stopper, 2013 will prove to be the nuanced genius plucking the right strings for years to come. Intresset för vin stärktes och de första vinsouvenirerna stoppades i resväskan och bars hem. Det Munskänken/VinJournalen har blivit åtskilliga flaskor från många olika vindistrikt genom åren. The Left Bank focuses on Cabernet driven complexity and structure, while the Right Bank is built upon Merlot and produces rich, balanced and inviting wines. What does all of this have to do with winemaking in Napa? Well, nothing really, we make our own rules, but it provides inspiration for our Cuvée Équité. Much has been written on the fate of Merlot in the US and we think it’s time to flip that story sideways and do our bit to revive one of the great varietals of the world. The 2015 vintage has been characterized by the prominent drought conditions that year and as expected in a drought year, thought quantities fell, the richness and depth of the fruit shines through. On the nose this wine shows abundant cherry, and brambled black berry notes with subtle hints of dried mission fig, hazelnut and tobacco. The palate begins soft and generous with black, blue and red fruit notes all present and as it lingers on the taste buds firm fine grained tannins frame the ample fruit and linger to the finish.
