What a crazy unprecedented year! With the winter months upon us, we at Arrowhead are dreaming of warmer weather and more normal days ahead! This past summer was a herculean task for both my staff and I. When we finally were told on Memorial Day that we would be permitted to be open, we scrambled to implement all of the protocols that were placed upon us. Thank you to all of our parents who decided to entrust that we were providing a safe summer experience for their children. It ended up being the most rewarding summer that I have ever been involved in and was fantastic to see the campers smiling, laughing and playing after months of lockdown.

Our campers deserve another great summer at Arrowhead. I am amazed by the resiliency and flexibility that they possess. So much has been forced upon them with their sports being cancelled, birthday parties postponed and hybrid learning. Our children have been amazing during this and have helped us all get through this year. They deserve to have their lives back and we are proud that they get to spend their summer with us.

We know we have brighter days ahead and we are so excited for them. Our focus this year will again be the safety and well being of all of our staff members and campers. We have all of the same protocols that were effective and helpful last summer ready to go for this one; however, we are hoping that as more and more people are vaccinated we will get closer to normal life and hope to have as close to a normal summer this year. We will be continually reviewing guidelines but will not be making any official changes until May when we are notified by the health department. Everyone stay safe and we can’t wait to see you all again in June!

Yours for better camping-

Uncle Brian Witt

Junior Camp Senior Camp Happy New Year to all the campers and counselors in As I sit here on a warm January day in Mt Pleasant, Junior Camp! The summer of 2020 was the most South Carolina, my mind reflects back to the summer unique summer in camp history. And despite all that, the amazing Senior Camp Events, Swim Relays, and Award Ceremonies. I want to showed why we are the best. We took on the thank my amazing Senior Counselors, Junior challenge, and with the help of our amazing campers, Counselors, and CITs for all the hard work they put in and dedicated counselors and junior counselors we not to make sure every camper was safe and happy. As directors (and off teachers) these UNCLE RANDY STRAFF kids were an inspiration to all of us and made our job so fulfilling during the summer of 2020. We were still able to be a part of all that ARROWHEAD has to offer in the pools, the lake, on the fields, on the courts, and at every specialist activity that had to adjust to outside tables and no contact lessons. We did it, and we will continue to do it as each new summer brings new challenges and new friends. We can only look back with pride, and forward with anticipation to another amazing summer at ARROWHEAD. I can’t wait to see you all during the summer of 2021. I know that it will be amazing! 6th Annual AL GILBERT Commemorative Founder's Award

To the senior campers who best represent what ARROWHEAD is all about. The nominees this summer were:

EAGLES: Xavier Gutowski EMERALDS: Aubrey Goldblatt PHILLIES: Matt Garcia OPALS: Mikhyela Vessal FLYERS: Steven Kaminsky PEARLS: Sarah Litz SIXERS: Andrew Wald SAPPHIRES: Bella Kaminsky

And the WINNER was…. Aubrey Goldblatt of the EMERALDS for her exemplary campership; his essay below was judged the best by our directors.

QUESTION # 1): What does ARROWHEAD mean to me? It’s a place where I can do lots of fun stuff and it’s a place where I can make friends, and Arrowhead is a special place to do lots and lots of things, and it’s one of my favorite places to be! And my dad came here when he was little, so sometimes I think of him as a kid playing here, so that also makes Arrowhead fun.

QUESTION # 2): What can I do to make ARROWHEAD a better camp? I can respect people, I want Arrowhead to be a place where everyone is nice to each other, and treats people the way they wanna be treated and that’s what I do. I don’t want people to be mad or sad. I want them to be happy. A Child’s Paradise can also mean happiness, and if people are kind, they can have more friends and everybody can be happy!

OUR SINCEREST CONGRATULATIONS TO AUBREY! WE ARE ALL EXTREMELY PROUD OF THIS SPECIAL ACCOMPLISHMENT!

COLOR WAR

Color War at Arrowhead this year had a whole new look due to COVID 19 and some of the limitations that we just couldn’t work around. That being said, we didn’t fail to recognize the importance of Color War to our oldest campers, and we wanted to recognize those that were chosen as Kings and Queens for the summer of 2020. While we were unable to have our whole camp celebration with games, challenges, marathon, swim relays, and culminating song fest… we still did have celebrations in our two oldest bunks as they set aside the normal Color War Week and competed within their bunks. Congratulations to Keira Cheney, Chloe Friedland, Aaron Law, and Caden Shuster as well as the rest of the Sapphires and Sixers for participating in Color War 2020. We are proud of all of you, and we were thrilled that you could keep a camp tradition alive in even the craziest of times!

MTV DAY

Despite social distancing and masks, the annual tradition of MTV Day went on as usual from the Ampitheatre. However, this strange summer also brought a strange result. For the first time in many years, the Sapphires did not win MTV Day. In a monumental upset, the Opals captured this year’s title proving that with hard work and dedication, dreams do come true.

Road Runner Race

Our annual Roadrunner Race looked a little different for the summer of 2020, but we still managed to have a great time with winners for every bunk and camp division. This summer, each bunk ran route as a bunk. Counselors timed all interested campers. Everyone’s time was collected and compared with the rest of the scores for their camp division. This system allowed us to run, but run safely. Congratulations to all of our winners!

PENTATHLON

Once again, the Pentathlon proved to be one of the highlights of the end of the summer. The Pentathlon is a true test to even the most well tuned athletes. The competition includes a series of events...swimming, running and boating. The participants began their journey at Uncle Dave's pool where they swam two laps. They then ran towards the lake and competed on the canoe course. Once the boats docked the participants then ran to Uncle Joel’s Archery range to compete before the winner was decided at Uncle Rob's Marksmanship range. As usual, the races were unbelievably close and a big congratulation goes out to all of the competitors for a job well done!
