Set in a woodland world where anything can happen, this engaging mix of music and puppetry is an interactive experience for small people and their adults to enjoy together. Performed by two singers, a cellist and a percussionist, Paterson’s score draws on influences from French Baroque dances to contemporary opera – all cleverly reimagined for an audience at the very start of their musical lives.

Merrily We Roll Along has long been a go-to work for recording artists from Sinatra to Liza Minnelli, and the unfailingly original score is full of the devilish wit for which Sondheim is so loved. A dark tale of ambition and disillusion, the story starts at the end of a successful career that has seen Franklin Shepard go from penniless composer to Hollywood impresario. But as the years Stephen Sondheim roll back, it is soon evident that much has been lost to get there, MERRILY and success isn’t necessarily the key to happiness…

Performances for people living with dementia have become an important part of Scottish Opera’s Season. Designed to make attending a favourite opera as easy as possible, they run alongside the full-length performances in Glasgow and Edinburgh, and this Season, for the first time, in Aberdeen too.
