First Portion Numbers Chapter 8

א ַו ְי ַד ֵ ֥בּר ְי ָ ֖הוֹה ֶאל־מ ֶ ֥שׁה ֵלּ ֽ ֹאמר: :The Lord spoke to Moses, saying .1

ב ַדּ ֵבּ ֙ר ֶא ַ ֽל־א ֲה ֔רֹן ְו ָ ֽא ַמְר ָ ֖תּ ֵא ָ ֑ליו ְבּ ַ ֽה ֲﬠ ֽ ְת ֙ ,Speak to Aaron and say to him: "When you light the lamps .2 ֶאת ַ־ה ֵנּ ֔רֹת ֶא ֙ל־מוּל ְפֵּ ֣ני ַה ְמּ ָ ֔נוֹרה ָי ִ ֖אירוּ ִשׁ ְב ַ ֥ﬠת the seven lamps shall cast their light toward the face of the ַה ֵנּֽרוֹת: ".menorah

ג ַוַיּ֤ ַﬠשׂ ֵ ֙כּן ַ ֽא ֲה ֔רֹן ֶא ֙ל־מוּל ְפֵּ ֣ני ַה ְמּ ָ ֔נוֹרה ֶ ֽה ֱﬠ ָ ֖לה Aaron did so; he lit the lamps toward the face of the .3

ֵ ֽנרֹ ֶ ֑ת ָיה ַ ֽכּ ֲא ֶ ֛שׁר ִצָ ֥וּה ְי ָ ֖הוֹה ֶאת־מ ֶ ֽשׁה: .menorah, as the Lord had commanded Moses

ד ְו ֶ֨זה ַ ֽמ ֲﬠ ֵ ֤שׂה ַה ְמּ ֹנָר ֙ה ִמ ְק ָ ֣שׁה ָז ָ֔הב ַﬠד־ ְיֵר ָ ֥כהּ ,This was the form of the menorah: hammered work of gold .4 from its base to its flower it was hammered work; according to ַﬠ ִד־פְּר ָ ֖חהּ ִמ ְק ָ ֣שׁה ִ ֑הוא ַכּ ַמְּר ֶ֗אה ֲא ֶ֨שׁר ֶהְר ָ ֤אה ְי ָהוֹ ֙ה ֶאת־מ ֶ֔שׁה ֵ ֥כּן ָﬠ ָ ֖שׂה ֶאת ַ־ה ְמּ ֹנָ ֽרה: the form that the Lord had shown Moses, so did he construct the menorah.

ה ַו ְי ַד ֵ ֥בּר ְי ָ ֖הוֹה ֶאל־מ ֶ ֥שׁה ֵלּ ֽ ֹאמר: :The Lord spoke to Moses saying .5

ו ַ֚קח ֶאת ַ ֽ־ה ְלִוִ֔יּם ִמ ֖תּוֹ ְבֵּ ֣ני ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֑אל ְו ִֽט ַהְר ָ ֖תּ ֹא ָ ֽתם: Take the Levites from among the children of Israel and .6 cleanse them.

ז ְוכֹה ַ ֽ־ת ֲﬠ ֶ ֤שׂה ָל ֶה ֙ם ְל ַ ֽט ֲהָ ֔רם ַהֵ ֥זּה ֲﬠ ֵל ֶ ֖יהם ֵ ֣מי ַח ָ ֑טּאת :This is what you shall do to them so as to cleanse them .7 sprinkle them with cleansing water and pass a razor over all ְו ֶ ֽה ֱﬠ ִ ֤בירוּ ַ֨ת ַﬠ ֙ר ַﬠ ָל־כּל־ ְבּ ָשָׂ ֔רם ְו ִכ ְבּ ֥סוּ ִב ְגֵד ֶ ֖יהם ְו ִה ֶטּ ָ ֽהרוּ: their flesh; then they shall wash their garments and cleanse themselves.

ח ְו ָ ֽל ְק ֙חוּ ַ ֣פּר ֶבּן־ ָבּ ָ֔קר וּ ִ֨מ ְנ ָח ֔תוֹ ֖סֹ ֶלת ְבּ ָ ֣לוּלה ַב ָ ֑שּׁ ֶמן Then they shall take a young bull with its meal offering of .8 וּ ַפר־ ֵשִׁ֥ני ֶבן־ ָבָּ ֖ קר ִתַּ ֥קּח ְל ַח ָ ֽטּאת: fine flour mingled with oil. And you shall take a second young bull as a sin offering.

ט ְו ִה ְקַר ְב ָ֙תּ ֶאת ַ ֽ־ה ְלִוִ֔יּם ִל ְפֵ ֖ני ֣ ֹא ֶהל ֵ ֑מוֹﬠד ְו ִ֨ה ְק ַה ְל ָ֔תּ ,You shall bring the Levites in front of the Tent of Meeting .9 ֶאת ָ־כּל־ ֲﬠ ַ ֖דת ְבֵּ ֥ני ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֽאל: and you shall gather the entire congregation of the children of Israel.

י ְו ִה ְקַר ְב ָ ֥תּ ֶאת ַ ֽ־ה ְלִוִ ֖יּם ִל ְפֵ ֣ני ְי ָ ֑הוֹה ְו ָ ֽס ְמ ֧כוּ You shall bring the Levites before the Lord, and the .10

ְבֵ ֽני־ ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֛אל ֶאת־ ְי ֵד ֶ ֖יהם ַﬠ ַ ֽל־ה ְלִוִֽיּם: .children of Israel shall lay their hands upon the Levites

יא ְו ֵה ִנ ֩יף ַ ֽא ֲה ֨רֹן ֶאת ַ ֽ־ה ְלִוִ ֤יּם ְתּנוּ ָפ ֙ה ִל ְפֵ ֣ני ְי ָ ֔הוֹה ֵמ ֵ ֖את Then Aaron shall lift up the Levites as a waving before the .11 ְבֵּ ֣ני ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֑אל ְו ָה֕יוּ ַ ֽל ֲﬠ ֖בֹד ֶאת־ ֲﬠבַֹ ֥דת ְי ָ ֽהוֹה: Lord on behalf of the children of Israel, that they may serve in the Lord's service.

יב ְו ַ ֽה ְלִו ִיּ ֙ם ִי ְס ְמ ֣כוּ ֶאת־ ְי ֵד ֶ֔יהם ַ ֖ﬠל ֣ר ֹאשׁ ַה ָפִּ ֑רים ,The Levites shall lay their hands on the heads of the bulls .12 ַ ֽו ֲﬠ ֵ ֠שׂה ֶאת ָ ֽ־ה ֶא ָ֨חד ַח ָ֜טּאת ְו ֶאת ָ ֽ־ה ֶא ָ ֤חד עֹ ָל ֙ה ַ ֽל ָ ֔יהוֹה and make one as a sin offering and one as a burnt offering to ְל ַכ ֵ ֖פּר ַﬠ ַ ֽל־ה ְלִוִֽיּם: .the Lord, to atone for the Levites

יג ְו ַ ֽה ֲﬠ ַמ ְד ָ֙תּ ֶאת ַ ֽ־ה ְלִוִ֔יּם ִל ְפֵ ֥ני ַ ֽא ֲה ֖רֹן ְו ִל ְפֵ ֣ני ָבָ ֑ניו ,You shall present the Levites before Aaron and his sons .13

ְו ֵ ֽה ַנ ְפ ָ ֥תּ ֹא ָ ֛תם ְתּנוּ ָ ֖פה ַ ֽל ָ ֽיהוֹה: .and lift them as a waving before the Lord

יד ְו ִה ְב ַדּ ְל ָ֙תּ ֶאת ַ ֽ־ה ְלִוִ֔יּם ִמ ֖תּוֹ ְבֵּ ֣ני ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֑אל ְו ָ ֥היוּ ִ ֖לי Thus shall you set apart the Levites from the midst of the .14

ַ ֽה ְלִוִֽיּם: .children of Israel, and the Levites shall become Mine

Second Portion Numbers Chapter 8 טו ְו ַ ֽא ֲחֵר ֵ ֙י־כן ָי ֣בֹאוּ ַ ֽה ְלִוִ֔יּם ַ ֽל ֲﬠ ֖בֹד ֶאת ֣ ֹ־א ֶהל ֵ ֑מוֹﬠד Following this, the Levites shall come to serve in the Tent .15

ְו ִֽט ַהְר ָ ֣תּ ֹא ָ֔תם ְו ֵ ֽה ַנ ְפ ָ ֥תּ ֹא ָ ֖תם ְתּנוּ ָ ֽפה: .of Meeting. You shall cleanse them and lift them as a waving

טז ִכּ֩י ְנ ֻת ִ֨נים ְנ ֻתִ֥נים ֵ֨ה ָמּ ֙ה ִ֔לי ִמ ֖תּוֹ ְבֵּ ֣ני ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֑אל For they are wholly given over to Me from among the .16 ֩ ַתּ ַח ֩ת ִפּ ְטַ ֨רת ָכּ ֶ ֜ל־ר ֶחם ְבּ ֥כוֹר כֹּ ֙ל ִמ ְבֵּ ֣ני ִי ְשָׂר ֵ֔אל children of Israel; instead of those that open the womb all the ָלַ ֥ ק ְח ִתּי ֹא ָ ֖תם ִֽלי: .firstborn of Israel I have taken them for Myself

יז ִ ֣כּי ִ ֤לי ָכל־ ְבּ ֙כוֹר ִבּ ְבֵ ֣ני ִי ְשָׂר ֵ֔אל ָ ֽבּ ָאָ ֖דם וּ ַב ְבּ ֵה ָ ֑מה For all the firstborn among the children of Israel are Mine .17 ְבּ֗יוֹם ַהכֹּ ִ ֤תי ָכל־ ְבּ ֙כוֹר ְבּ ֶ ֣אֶרץ ִמ ְצַ ֔ר ִים ִה ְק ַ ֥דּ ְשׁ ִתּי ֹא ָ ֖תם whether man or beast since the day I smote all the firstborn in ִֽלי: .the land of Egypt; I have sanctified them for Myself

יח ָ ֽו ֶאַ ֖קּח ֶאת ַ ֽ־ה ְלִוִ ֑יּם ַ ֥תּ ַחת ָכּל־ ְבּ ֖כוֹר ִבּ ְבֵ ֥ני ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֽאל: And I have taken the Levites instead of all the firstborn of .18 the children of Israel.

יט ָ ֽו ֶא ְתּ ָ֨נה ֶאת ַ ֽ־ה ְלִוִ֜יּם ְנ ֻתִ ֣נים | ְל ַ ֽא ֲה ֣רֹן ְוּל ָב ָ֗ניו ִמ ֘תּוֹ I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and his sons .19 ְבֵּ ֣ני ִי ְשָׂר ֵאל֒ ַ ֽל ֲﬠ ֞בֹד ֶאת־ ֲﬠבַֹ ֤דת ְבֵּ ֽני־ ִי ְשָׂר ֵא ֙ל ְבּ ֣ ֹא ֶהל from among the children of Israel, to perform the service for the ֵ֔מוֹﬠד ְוּל ַכ ֵ ֖פּר ַﬠל־ ְבֵּ ֣ני ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֑אל ְו ֨ל ֹא ִֽי ְהֶ֜יה ִבּ ְבֵ ֤ני children of Israel in the Tent of Meeting and to atone on behalf ִי ְשָׂר ֵא ֙ל ֶ֔נ ֶגף ְבֶּ ֥ג ֶשׁת ְבֵּ ֽני־ ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֖אל ֶא ַל־ה ֽקֹּ ֶדשׁ: of the children of Israel, so that the children of Israel will not be inflicted with plague when they approach the Sanctuary.

כ ַוַ֨יּ ַﬠשׂ מ ֶ ֧שׁה ְו ַ ֽא ֲה ֛רֹן ְו ָכל־ ֲﬠ ַ ֥דת ְבֵּ ֽני־ ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֖אל ַ ֽל ְלִוִ ֑יּם So Moses, Aaron, and the entire congregation of Israel did .20 [this] to the Levites; the children of Israel did [in accordance ְ֠כּ ֠כֹל ֲא ֶשׁר־ ִצָ֨וּה ְי ָ ֤הוֹה ֶאת־מ ֶשׁ ֙ה ַ ֽל ְלִוִ֔יּם ֵכּן־ ָﬠ ֥שׂוּ ָל ֶ ֖הם ְבֵּ ֥ני ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֽאל: with] all that the Lord had instructed Moses regarding the Levites.

כא ַו ִיּ ְת ַח ְטּ ֣אוּ ַ ֽה ְלִוִ֗יּם ַו ְי ַכ ְבּ ֙סוּ ִבּ ְגֵד ֶ֔יהם ַוָ֨יּ ֶנף ַ ֽא ֲה ֥רֹן The Levites cleansed themselves and washed their .21 ֹא ָ ֛תם ְתּנוּ ָ ֖פה ִל ְפֵ ֣ני ְי ָ ֑הוֹה ַו ְי ַכ ֵ ֧פּר ֲﬠ ֵל ֶ ֛יהם ַ ֽא ֲה ֖רֹן ,clothes. Then Aaron lifted them as a waving before the Lord ְל ַ ֽט ֲהָ ֽרם: .and Aaron atoned for them to cleanse them

כב ְו ַ ֽא ֲחֵר ֵ֞י־כן ָ ֣בּאוּ ַ ֽה ְלִוִ֗יּם ַ ֽל ֲﬠ ֤בֹד ֶאת־ ֲﬠ ֽבָֹד ָת ֙ם After that, the Levites came to perform the service in the .22 Tent of Meeting before Aaron and before his sons; they did to ְבּ ֣ ֹא ֶהל ֵ֔מוֹﬠד ִל ְפֵ ֥ני ַ ֽא ֲה ֖רֹן ְו ִל ְפֵ ֣ני ָבָ ֑ניו ַ ֽכּ ֲא ֶשׁ ֩ר ִצָ֨וּה ְי ָ ֤הוֹה ֶאת־מ ֶשׁ ֙ה ַﬠ ַ ֽל־ה ְלִוִ֔יּם ֵ ֖כּן ָﬠ ֥שׂוּ ָל ֶ ֽהם: them just as the Lord had commanded Moses regarding the Levites.

כג ַו ְי ַד ֵ ֥בּר ְי ָ ֖הוֹה ֶאל־מ ֶ ֥שׁה ֵלּ ֽ ֹאמר: :The Lord spoke to Moses saying .23

כד ֖ז ֹאת ֲא ֶ ֣שׁר ַ ֽל ְלִוִ ֑יּם ִמ ֶבּ֩ן ָח ֵ֨משׁ ְו ֶﬠ ְשִׂ ֤רים ָשׁ ָנ ֙ה This is [the rule] concerning the Levites: From the age of .24 ָו ַ֔מ ְﬠ ָלה ָי ֙בוֹא ִל ְצ ֣ב ֹא ָצ ָ֔בא ַ ֽבּ ֲﬠבַֹ ֖דת ֥ ֹא ֶהל ֵ ֽמוֹﬠד: twenty five years and upwards, he shall enter the service to work in the Tent of Meeting.

כה וּ ִמ ֶ ֙בּן ֲח ִמ ִ ֣שּׁים ָשׁ ָ֔נה ָי ֖שׁוּב ִמ ְצּ ָ ֣בא ָ ֽה ֲﬠבָֹ ֑דה ְו ֥ל ֹא ,From the age of fifty he shall retire from the work legion .25

ַ ֽי ֲﬠ ֖בֹד ֽﬠוֹד: .and do no more work

כו ְו ֵשֵׁ ֨רת ֶאת ֶ־א ָ֜חיו ְבּ ֤ ֹא ֶהל ֵמוֹﬠ ֙ד ִל ְשׁ ֣ ֹמר ִמ ְשׁ ֶ֔מֶרת He shall minister with his brethren in the Tent of Meeting to .26 ַ ֽו ֲﬠבָֹ ֖דה ֣ל ֹא ַ ֽי ֲﬠ ֑בֹד ָ ֛כּ ָכה ַ ֽתּ ֲﬠ ֶ ֥שׂה ַ ֽל ְלִוִ ֖יּם ְבּ ִמ ְשׁ ְמרֹ ָ ֽתם: keep the charge, but he shall not perform the service; thus shall you do for the Levites regarding their charge.

Third Portion Numbers Chapter 9 א ַו ְי ַד ֵ ֣בּר ְי ָ ֣הוֹה ֶאל־מ ֶ ֣שׁה ְב ִמ ְד ַבּ ִ֠ר־ס ַ ֠יני ַבּ ָשּׁ ָ֨נה The Lord spoke to Moses in the Sinai Desert, in the second .1 ַה ֵשּׁ ִ֜נית ְל ֵצ ָ֨אתם ֵמ ֶ ֧אֶרץ ִמ ְצַ ֛ר ִים ַבּ ֥חֹ ֶדשׁ ָ ֽהִרא ֖שׁוֹן ,year of their exodus from the land of Egypt, in the first month ֵל ֽ ֹאמר: :saying

ב ְוַ ֽי ֲﬠ ֧שׂוּ ְבֵ ֽני־ ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֛אל ֶאת ַ־ה ָ ֖פּ ַסח ְבּ ֽמ ֲוֹﬠ ֽדוֹ: The children of Israel shall make the Passover sacrifice in .2 its appointed time.

ג ְבּ ַאְר ָבּ ָ ֣ﬠה ָﬠ ָ ֽשׂר־ ֠יוֹם ַבּ ֨חֹ ֶדשׁ ַה ֶ֜זּה ֵ ֧בּין ָ ֽה ַﬠְר ַ ֛בִּים On the afternoon of the fourteenth of this month, you shall .3 ַ ֽתּ ֲﬠ ֥שׂוּ ֹא ֖תוֹ ְבּ ֽ ֹמ ֲﬠ ֑דוֹ ְכּ ָכ ֻל־חקֹּ ָ ֥תיו וּ ְכ ָכ ִל־מ ְשׁ ָפּ ָ ֖טיו make it in its appointed time; in accordance with all its statutes ַ ֽתּ ֲﬠ ֥שׂוּ ֹא ֽתוֹ: .and all its ordinances you shall make it

ד ַו ְי ַד ֵ ֥בּר מ ֶ ֛שׁה ֶאל־ ְבֵּ ֥ני ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֖אל ַ ֽל ֲﬠ ֥שׂת ַה ָ ֽפּ ַסח: Moses spoke to the children of Israel [instructing them] to .4 make the Passover sacrifice.

ה ַוַ ֽיּ ֲﬠ ֣שׂוּ ֶאת ַ־ה ֶ֡פּ ַסח ָ ֽבִּרא ֡שׁוֹן ְבּ ַאְר ָבּ ָﬠ ֩ה ָﬠ ָ֨שׂר ֥יוֹם So they made the Passover sacrifice in the first month, on .5 the afternoon of the fourteenth day of the month in the Sinai ַל ֛חֹ ֶדשׁ ֵ ֥בּין ָ ֽה ַﬠְר ַ ֖בִּים ְבּ ִמ ְד ַ ֣בּר ִס ָ ֑יני ְ֠כּ ֠כֹל ֲא ֶ֨שׁר ִצָ ֤וּה ְי ָהוֹ ֙ה ֶאת־מ ֶ֔שׁה ֵ ֥כּן ָﬠ ֖שׂוּ ְבֵּ ֥ני ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֽאל: ,Desert; according to all that the Lord had commanded Moses so did the children of Israel do.

ו ַו ְי ִ ֣הי ֲא ָנ ִ֗שׁים ֲא ֶ֨שׁר ָה֤יוּ ְט ֵמ ִאי ֙ם ְלֶ ֣נ ֶפשׁ ָא ָ֔דם There were men who were ritually unclean [because of .6 contact with] a dead person, and therefore could not make the ְול ֹא־ָ ֽי ְכ ֥לוּ ַ ֽל ֲﬠ ֽשׂת ַ־ה ֶ ֖פּ ַסח ַבּ֣יּוֹם ַה ֑הוּא ַו ִיּ ְקְר ֞בוּ ִל ְפֵ ֥ני מ ֶ ֛שׁה ְו ִל ְפֵ ֥ני ַ ֽא ֲה ֖רֹן ַבּ֥יּוֹם ַה ֽהוּא: Passover sacrifice on that day. So they approached Moses and Aaron on that day.

ז ַו ֽיּ ֹ ְאמ ֠רוּ ָ ֽה ֲא ָנ ִ ֤שׁים ָה ֵ֨ה ָמּ ֙ה ֵא ָ֔ליו ֲאַ ֥נ ְחנוּ ְט ֵמ ִ ֖אים Those men said to him, "We are ritually unclean [because .7 of contact] with a dead person; [but] why should we be ְלֶ ֣נ ֶפשׁ ָאָ ֑דם ָ ֣ל ָמּה ִנ ָגַּ ֗רע ְל ִב ְל ִ֨תּי ַה ְקִ ֜ריב ֶאת ָ־קְר ַ ֤בּן ְי ָהוֹ ֙ה ְבּ ֣ ֹמ ֲﬠ ֔דוֹ ְבּ ֖תוֹ ְבֵּ ֥ני ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֽאל: excluded so as not to bring the offering of the Lord in its appointed time, with all the children of Israel?

ח ַו ֥יּ ֹ ֶאמר ֲא ֵל ֶ ֖הם מ ֶ ֑שׁה ִﬠ ְמ ֣דוּ ְו ֶא ְשׁ ְמ ָ֔ﬠה ַמה־ ְיּ ַצֶ ֥וּה Moses said to them, "Wait, and I will hear what the Lord .8

ְי ָ ֖הוֹה ָל ֶ ֽכם: ".instructs concerning you

ט ַו ְי ַד ֵ ֥בּר ְי ָ ֖הוֹה ֶאל־מ ֶ ֥שׁה ֵלּ ֽ ֹאמר: :The Lord spoke to Moses saying .9

י ַדּ ֵ ֛בּר ֶאל־ ְבֵּ ֥ני ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֖אל ֵל ֑ ֹאמר ִ ֣אישׁ ִ ֣אישׁ ִכּי־ִֽי ְהֶ ֥יה Speak to the children of Israel saying, Any person who .10 becomes unclean from [contact with] the dead, or is on a ָט ֵ ֣מא | ָל ֶ֡נ ֶפשׁ ֩אוֹ ְב ֶ֨דֶר ְר ָ֜חֹק ֗ה ָל ֶ֗כם ֚אוֹ ְלדֹ֣רֹ ֵתי ֶ֔כם ְו ָ ֥ﬠ ָשׂה ֶ ֖פ ַסח ַ ֽל ָ ֽיהוֹה: distant journey, whether among you or in future generations, he shall make a Passover sacrifice for the Lord.

יא ַבּ ֨חֹ ֶדשׁ ַה ֵשּׁ ִ֜ני ְבּ ַאְר ָבּ ָ֨ﬠה ָﬠ ָ ֥שׂר ֛יוֹם ֵ ֥בּין ָ ֽה ַﬠְר ַ ֖בִּים In the second month, on the fourteenth day, in the .11 ַ ֽי ֲﬠ ֣שׂוּ ֹא ֑תוֹ ַﬠ ַל־מ ֥צּוֹת וּ ְמרִֹ ֖רים ֽי ֹ ְאכ ֻ ֽלהוּ: afternoon, they shall make it; they shall eat it with unleavened cakes and bitter herbs.

יב ֽל ֹא־ ַי ְשׁ ִ ֤אירוּ ִמ ֶ֨מּ ֙נּוּ ַﬠד־ ֔בֹּ ֶקר ְו ֶ ֖ﬠ ֶצם ֣ל ֹא ִי ְשׁ ְבּרוּ־ ֑בוֹ They shall not leave over anything from it until the next .12 morning, and they shall not break any of its bones. They shall ְכּ ָכ ֻל־חַ ֥קּת ַה ֶ ֖פּ ַסח ַ ֽי ֲﬠ ֥שׂוּ ֹא ֽתוֹ: make it in accordance with all the statutes connected with the Passover sacrifice.

יג ְו ָה ִאי ֩שׁ ֲא ֶשׁ ֨ר־הוּא ָט ֜הוֹר וּ ְבֶ ֣דֶר ֽל ֹא ָ־הָ֗יה ְו ָח ַד ֙ל But the man who was ritually clean and was not on a .13 ַ ֽל ֲﬠ ֣שׂוֹת ַה ֶ֔פּ ַסח ְו ִנ ְכְר ָ ֛תה ַהֶ ֥נּ ֶפשׁ ַה ִ ֖הוא ֵ ֽמ ַﬠ ֶ ֑מּ ָיה ִ ֣כּי | journey, yet refrained from making the Passover sacrifice, his ָקְר ַ ֣בּן ְי ָ ֗הוֹה ֤ל ֹא ִה ְקִרי ֙ב ְבּ ֣ ֹמ ֲﬠ ֔דוֹ ֶח ְט ֥אוֹ ִי ָ ֖שּׂא ָה ִ֥אישׁ soul shall be cut off from his people, for he did not bring the offering of the Lord in its appointed time; that person shall bear ַה ֽהוּא: his sin. יד ְו ִֽכי־ ָי ֨גוּר ִא ְתּ ֶ֜כם ֵ֗גּר ְו ָ ֤ﬠ ָשׂה ֶ֨פ ַס ֙ח ַ ֽל ָ ֔יהוֹה ְכּ ֻחַ ֥קּת If a proselyte dwells with you, and he makes a Passover .14 ַה ֶ ֛פּ ַסח וּ ְכ ִמ ְשׁ ָפּ ֖טוֹ ֵ ֣כּן ַ ֽי ֲﬠ ֶ ֑שׂה ֻחָ ֤קּה ַא ַח ֙ת ִֽי ְהֶי֣ה ָל ֶ֔כם sacrifice to the Lord, according to the statutes of the Passover ְו ַלֵ ֖גּר ְוּל ֶאְזַ ֥רח ָה ָ ֽאֶרץ: sacrifice and its ordinances he shall make it. One statute shall apply to you, to the proselyte and to the native-born citizen.

Fourth Portion Numbers Chapter 9 טו וּ ְב ֙יוֹם ָהִ ֣ קים ֶאת ַ־ה ִמּ ְשׁ ָ֔כּן ִכּ ָ ֤סּה ֶ ֽה ָﬠ ָ֙נן On the day the Mishkan was erected, the cloud covered .15 the Mishkan, which was a tent for the Testimony, and at ֶאת ַ־ה ִמּ ְשׁ ָ֔כּן ְל ֖ ֹא ֶהל ָ ֽה ֵﬠ ֻ ֑דת וּ ָב ֶ֜ﬠֶרב ִֽי ְהֶי֧ה ַﬠ ַל־ה ִמּ ְשׁ ָ ֛כּן ְכּ ַמְר ֵאה ֵ ֖־אשׁ ַﬠד־ ֽבֹּ ֶקר: evening, there was over the Mishkan like an appearance of fire, [which remained] until morning.

טז ֵ֚כּן ִֽי ְהֶי֣ה ָת ִ֔מיד ֶ ֽה ָﬠָ ֖נ ן ְי ַכ ֶ ֑סּנּוּ וּ ַמְר ֵאה ֵ ֖־אשׁ ָ ֽל ְי ָלה: So it was always, the cloud covered it and there was an .16 appearance of fire at night.

יז ְוּל ִ֞פי ֵ ֽה ָﬠ ֤לוֹת ֶ ֽה ָﬠ ָ֙נן ֵמ ַ ֣ﬠל ָה ֔ ֹא ֶהל ְו ַ ֣א ֲחֵרי ֵ֔כן ִי ְס ֖ﬠוּ ,and according to the cloud's departure from over the Tent .17 and afterwards, the children of Israel would travel, and in the ְבֵּ ֣ני ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֑אל וּ ִב ְמ ֗קוֹם ֲא ֶ ֤שׁר ִי ְשׁ ָכּן־ ָשׁ ֙ם ֶ ֽה ָﬠ ָ֔נן ָ ֥שׁם ַ ֽי ֲח ֖נוּ ְבֵּ ֥ני ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֽאל: place where the cloud settled, there the children of Israel would encamp.

יח ַﬠ ִ ֣ל־פּי ְי ָ ֗הוֹה ִי ְס ֙עוּ ְבֵּ ֣ני ִי ְשָׂר ֵ֔אל ְו ַﬠ ִ֥ל־פּי ְי ָ ֖הוֹה ַ ֽי ֲח ֑נוּ ,At the bidding of the Lord, the children of Israel traveled .18 ָכּל־ ְי ֵ֗מי ֲא ֶ֨שׁר ִי ְשׁ ֧כֹּן ֶ ֽה ָﬠָ ֛נ ן ַﬠ ַל־ה ִמּ ְשׁ ָ ֖כּן ַ ֽי ֲח ֽנוּ: and at the bidding of the Lord, they encamped. As long as the cloud hovered above the Mishkan, they encamped.

יט וּ ְב ַ ֽה ֲאִ ֧רי ֶ ֽה ָﬠָ ֛נ ן ַﬠ ַל־ה ִמּ ְשׁ ָ ֖כּן ָי ִ ֣מים ַר ִ ֑בּים ְו ָ ֽשׁ ְמ ֧רוּ ,When the cloud lingered over the Mishkan for many days .19 ְבֵ ֽני־ ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֛אל ֶאת ִ־מ ְשׁ ֶ ֥מֶרת ְי ָ ֖הוֹה ְו ֥ל ֹא ִי ָ ֽסּעוּ: the children of Israel kept the charge of the Lord and did not travel.

כ ְוֵ֞ישׁ ֲא ֶ֨שׁר ִֽי ְהֶי֧ה ֶ ֽה ָﬠָ ֛נ ן ָי ִ֥מים ִמ ְס ָ ֖פּר ַﬠ ַל־ה ִמּ ְשׁ ָ ֑כּן Sometimes, the cloud remained for several days above .20 ַﬠ ִ ֤ל־פּי ְי ָהוֹ ֙ה ַ ֽי ֲח ֔נוּ ְו ַﬠ ִ֥ל־פּי ְי ָ ֖הוֹה ִי ָ ֽסּעוּ: the Mishkan; at the Lord's bidding they traveled and at the Lord's bidding they encamped.

כא ְוֵ֞ישׁ ֲא ֶ֨שׁר ִֽי ְהֶי֤ה ֶ ֽה ָﬠ ָ֙נן ֵמ ֶ ֣ﬠֶרב ַﬠד־ ֔בֹּ ֶקר ְוַ ֽנ ֲﬠ ָ ֧לה Sometimes the cloud remained from evening until .21 morning, and when the cloud departed in the morning, they ֶ ֽה ָﬠָ ֛נ ן ַבּ ֖בֹּ ֶקר ְו ָנ ָ ֑סעוּ ֚אוֹ יוֹ ָ ֣מם ָו ַ֔ל ְי ָלה ְוַ ֽנ ֲﬠ ָ ֥לה ֶ ֽה ָﬠָ ֖נ ן ְו ָנ ָ ֽסעוּ: traveled. Or, the cloud remained for a day and a night, and when the cloud departed, they traveled.

כב ֽאוֹ־יֹ ַ֜מִים ֣אוֹ־חֹ ֶדשׁ ֽאוֹ־ ָי ִ֗מים ְבּ ַ ֽה ֲאִ ֨רי ֶ ֽה ָﬠָ ֤נ ן Whether it was for two days, a month or a year, that the .22 cloud lingered to hover over the Mishkan, the children of Israel ַﬠ ַל־ה ִמּ ְשׁ ָ ֙כּן ִל ְשׁ ֣כֹּן ָﬠ ָ֔ליו ַ ֽי ֲח ֥נוּ ְבֵ ֽני־ ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֖אל ְו ֣ל ֹא ִי ָ ֑סּעוּ וּ ְב ֵה ָ ֽﬠ ֖תוֹ ִי ָ ֽסּעוּ: would encamp and not travel, and when it departed, they traveled.

כג ַﬠ ִ ֤ל־פּי ְי ָהוֹ ֙ה ַ ֽי ֲח ֔נוּ ְו ַﬠ ִ֥ל־פּי ְי ָ ֖הוֹה ִי ָ ֑סּעוּ At the Lord's bidding they would encamp, and at the Lord's .23 ֶאת ִ־מ ְשׁ ֶ ֤מֶרת ְי ָהוֹ ֙ה ָשׁ ָ֔מרוּ ַﬠ ִ֥ל־פּי ְי ָ ֖הוֹה ְבַּיד־מ ֶ ֽשׁה: bidding they would travel; they kept the charge of the Lord by the word of the Lord through Moses.

Numbers Chapter 10

א ַו ְי ַד ֵ ֥בּר ְי ָ ֖הוֹה ֶאל־מ ֶ ֥שׁה ֵלּ ֽ ֹאמר: :The Lord spoke to Moses saying .1

ב ֲﬠ ֵ ֣שׂה ְל ֗ ְשׁ ֵ ֙תּי ֲח ֽצ ְוֹצ ֣רֹת ֶ֔כּ ֶסף ִמ ְק ָ ֖שׁה ַ ֽתּ ֲﬠ ֶ ֣שׂה Make yourself two silver trumpets; you shall make them .2 ֹא ָ ֑תם ְו ָה֤יוּ ְל ֙ ְל ִמ ְקָ ֣רא ָ ֽה ֵﬠ ָ֔דה ְוּל ַמ ַ ֖סּע ֶאת ַ־ה ַ ֽמּ ֲח ֽנוֹת: from a] beaten [form]; they shall be used by you to summon] the congregation and to announce the departure of the camps.

ג ְו ָ ֽת ְק ֖ﬠוּ ָבּ ֵ ֑הן ְו ֽנ ֲוֹﬠ ֤דוּ ֵא ֶ֨ל ֙י ָכּ ָ ֣ל־ה ֵﬠ ָ֔דה ֶא ֶ ֖ל־פּ ַתח When they blow on them, the entire congregation shall .3

֥ ֹא ֶהל ֵ ֽמוֹﬠד: .assemble to you, at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting

ד ְו ִאם־ ְבּ ַא ַ ֖חת ִי ְתָ ֑ קעוּ ְו ֽנ ֲוֹﬠ ֤דוּ ֵא ֶ֨ל ֙י ַה ְנּ ִשׂ ִ֔יאים If they blow one of them, the princes, the leaders of Israel's .4

ָרא ֵ ֖שׁי ַא ְל ֵ ֥פי ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֽאל: .thousands, shall convene to you

ה ְוּת ַק ְﬠ ֶ ֖תּם ְתּ ָ ֑רוּﬠה ְוָ ֽנ ְס ֙עוּ ַה ַ ֽמּ ֲח ֔נוֹת ַ ֽה ִ ֖חֹנים ֵ ֽק ְד ָמה: When you blow a teruah [a series of short blasts, the camps .5 which are encamped to the east shall travel.

ו ְוּת ַק ְﬠ ֶ ֤תּם ְתּ ָרוּﬠ ֙ה ֵשׁ ִ֔נית ְוָ ֽנ ְס ֙עוּ ַה ַ ֽמּ ֲח ֔נוֹת ַ ֽה ִ ֖חֹנים When you blow a second teruah, the camps encamped to .6

ֵתּי ָ ֑מ ָנה ְתּ ָ ֥רוּﬠה ִי ְת ְק ֖ﬠוּ ְל ַמ ְס ֵﬠ ֶ ֽיהם: .the south shall travel; they shall blow a teruah for traveling

ז וּ ְב ַה ְק ִ ֖היל ֶאת ַ־ה ָקּ ָ ֑הל ִתּ ְת ְק ֖ﬠוּ ְו ֥ל ֹא ָתִֽריעוּ: But when assembling the congregation, you shall blow a .7 tekiah [long blast] but not a teruah.

ח וּ ְבֵ ֤ני ַ ֽא ֲה ֙רֹן ַה ֣כֹּ ֲה ִ֔נים ִי ְת ְק ֖ﬠוּ ַ ֽבּ ֲח ֽצֹ ְצ ֑רוֹת ְו ָה֥יוּ ָל ֶ ֛כם The descendants of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the .8

ְל ֻחַ ֥קּת ָ ֖עוֹלם ְלדֹֽרֹ ֵתי ֶ ֽכם: .trumpets; this shall be an eternal statute for your generations

ט ְו ִֽכ ָי־ת ֨בֹאוּ ִמ ְל ָח ָ֜מה ְבּ ַאְר ְצ ֶ֗כם ַﬠ ַל־ה ַצּ ֙ר ַהצֵֹּ ֣רר If you go to war in your land against an adversary that .9 oppresses you, you shall blow a teruah with the trumpets and ֶא ְת ֶ֔כם ַ ֽו ֲהֵ ֽרעֹ ֶ ֖תם ַ ֽבּ ֲח ֽצֹ ְצ ֑רֹת ְו ִנְז ַכְּר ֶ֗תּם ִל ְפ ֵ֙ני ְי ָ ֣הוֹה ֱא ֽ ֵהי ֶ֔כם ְו ֽנ ַוֹשׁ ְﬠ ֶ ֖תּם ֵמ ֽ ֹאְי ֵבי ֶ ֽכם: be remembered before the Lord your God, and thus be saved from your enemies.

י וּ ְב֨יוֹם ִשׂ ְמ ַח ְת ֶ ֣כם וּ ְב ֽמ ֲוֹﬠ ֵדי ֶכם֘ וּ ְבָרא ֵ ֣שׁי ָח ְד ֵשׁ ֶכ ֒ם On the days of your rejoicing, on your festivals and on .10 your new-moon celebrations, you shall blow on the trumpets ְוּת ַק ְﬠ ֶ ֣תּם ַ ֽבּ ֲח ֽצֹ ְצ ֗רֹת ַ֚ﬠל עֹ ֣ ֵתי ֶ֔כם ְו ַ ֖ﬠל ִז ְב ֵ ֣חי ַשׁ ְל ֵמי ֶ ֑כם ְו ָה֨יוּ ָל ֶ ֤כם ְל ִז ָכּ ֙רוֹן ִל ְפֵ ֣ני ֱא ֽ ֵהי ֶ֔כם ֲאִ ֖ני ְי ָ ֥הוֹה ֱא ֽ ֵהי ֶ ֽכם: for your ascent-offerings and your peace sacrifices, and it shall be a remembrance before your God; I am the Lord your God.

Fifth Portion Numbers Chapter 10 יא ַו ְי ִ֞הי ַבּ ָשָּׁ ֧נה ַה ֵשִּׁ ֛נית ַבּ ֥חֹ ֶדשׁ ַה ֵשִּׁ ֖ני ְבּ ֶﬠ ְשִׂ ֣רים ,On the twentieth of the second month in the second year .11 ַבּ ֑חֹ ֶדשׁ ַ ֽנ ֲﬠ ָל ֙ה ֶ ֽה ָﬠ ָ֔נן ֵמ ַ ֖ﬠל ִמ ְשׁ ַ ֥כּן ָ ֽה ֵﬠ ֻ ֽדת: .the cloud rose up from over the Tabernacle of the Testimony

יב ַו ִיּ ְס ֧ﬠוּ ְבֵ ֽני־ ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֛אל ְל ַמ ְס ֵﬠ ֶ ֖יהם ִמ ִמּ ְד ַ ֣בּר ִס ָ ֑יני The children of Israel traveled on their journeys from the .12

ַו ִיּ ְשׁ ֥כֹּן ֶ ֽה ָﬠָ ֖נ ן ְבּ ִמ ְד ַ ֥בּר ָפּ ָ ֽארן: .Sinai desert, and the cloud settled in the desert of Paran

יג ַו ִיּ ְס ֖ﬠוּ ָבִּֽראשָֹׁ ֑נה ַﬠ ִ֥ל־פּי ְי ָ ֖הוֹה ְבַּיד־מ ֶ ֽשׁה: .This was the first journey at God's bidding through Moses .13

יד ַו ִיּ ַ֞סּע ֶ ֣דּ ֶגל ַ ֽמ ֲחֵ ֧נה ְבֵ ֽני־ ְי ָ ֛הוּדה ָבִּֽראשָֹׁ ֖נה ְל ִצ ְב ֹא ָ ֑תם The banner of the camp of Judah's children traveled first .14 ְו ַ֨ﬠל־ ְצ ָב ֔אוֹ ַנ ְח ֖שׁוֹן ֶבּן־ ַﬠ ִֽמּ ָינָ ֽדב: according to their legions. Heading the legion was Nahshon the son of Amminadab.

טו ְו ַ֨ﬠל־ ְצ ָ֔בא ַמ ֵ ֖טּה ְבֵּ ֣ני ִי ָשּׂ ָ ֑שכר ְנ ַת ְנ ֵ ֖אל ֶבּן־ ָ ֽצוּﬠר: Heading the legion of the tribe of the children of Issachar .15 was Nethanel the son of Zuar.

טז ְו ַ֨ﬠל־ ְצ ָ֔בא ַמ ֵ ֖טּה ְבֵּ ֣ני ְז ֻ ֑בוּלן ֱא ִל ָ ֖יאב ֶבּ ֵן־ח ֽן: Heading the legion of the tribe of the children of Zebulun .16 was Eliab the son of Helon.

יז ְו ַ ֖הוּרד ַה ִמּ ְשׁ ָ ֑כּן ְוָ ֽנ ְס ֤ﬠוּ ְב ֵנ ֵ ֽי־ג ְ ר ֙שׁוֹן וּ ְבֵ ֣ני ְמָרִ ֔רי The Tabernacle was dismantled, and the sons of Gershon .17 ֹֽנ ְשׂ ֵ ֖אי ַה ִמּ ְשׁ ָ ֽכּן: set out, [together] with the sons of Merari who carried the Tabernacle.

יח ְו ָנ ַ֗סע ֶ ֛דּ ֶגל ַ ֽמ ֲחֵ ֥נה ְראוּ ֵ ֖בן ְל ִצ ְב ֹא ָ ֑תם ְו ַ֨ﬠל־ ְצ ָב ֔אוֹ Then the banner of the camp of Reuben set out according .18 ֱא ִל ֖יצוּר ֶבּן־ ְשׁ ֵד ֽיאוּר: to their legions. Heading its legion was Elitzur the son of Shdeur.

יט ְו ַ֨ﬠל־ ְצ ָ֔בא ַמ ֵ ֖טּה ְבֵּ ֣ני ִשׁ ְמ ֑ﬠוֹן ְשׁ ֻ ֽל ִמ ֵ ֖יאל Heading the legion of the tribe of the children of Simeon .19

ֶבּן־ ִֽצוּרי ַשׁ ָ ֽדּי: .was Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai

כ ְו ַ֨ﬠל־ ְצ ָ ֖בא ַמ ֵ ֣טּה ְב ֵנ ָ ֑י־גד ֶא ְל ָי ָ ֖סף ֶבּ ְן־דּ ֵ ֽעוּאל: Heading the legion of the tribe of the children of Gad was .20

Eliasaph the son of Reuel.

כא ְוָ ֽנ ְס ֙עוּ ַה ְקּ ָה ִ֔תים ֹֽנ ְשׂ ֵ ֖אי ַה ִמּ ְק ָ ֑דּשׁ ְו ֵהִ֥ קימוּ ,The Kohathithes, who carried the holy [equipment] set out .21

ֶאת ַ־ה ִמּ ְשׁ ָ ֖כּן ַﬠד־בֹּ ָ ֽאם: .and they had erected the Tabernacle before they had arrived

כב ְו ָנ ַ֗סע ֶ ֛דּ ֶגל ַ ֽמ ֲחֵ ֥נה ְבֵ ֽנ ֶי־א ְפַ ֖ר ִים ְל ִצ ְב ֹא ָ ֑תם ,Then the banner of the camp of Ephraim set out .22 ְו ַ֨ﬠל־ ְצ ָב ֔אוֹ ֱא ִֽלי ָשׁ ָ ֖מע ֶבּן־ ַﬠ ִמּ ֽיהוּד: according to its legions. Heading its legion was Elishama the son of Amihud.

כג ְו ַ֨ﬠל־ ְצ ָ֔בא ַמ ֵ ֖טּה ְבֵּ ֣ני ְמ ַנ ֶ ֑שּׁה ַגּ ְמ ִל ֵ ֖יאל Heading the legion of the tribe of the children of Menasseh .23

ֶבּ ְן־פּ ָד ֽהצוּר: .was Gamliel the son of Pedahzur

כד ְו ַ֨ﬠל־ ְצ ָ֔בא ַמ ֵ ֖טּה ְבֵּ ֣ני ִב ְנָי ִ ֑מן ֲא ִב ָ ֖ידן ֶבּ ִן־גְּד ִֽעוֹני: Heading the legion of the tribe of the children of Benjamin .24 was Abidan the son of Gidoni.

כה ְו ָנ ַ֗סע ֶ֚דּ ֶגל ַ ֽמ ֲחֵ ֣נה ְב ֵנ ָ֔י־דן ְמ ַא ֵ ֥סּף ְל ָכ ַל־ה ַ ֽמּ ֲח ֹ֖נת Then the banner of the camp of Dan set out, the collector .25 ְל ִצ ְב ֹא ָ ֑תם ְו ַﬠל־ ְצ ָב ֔אוֹ ֲא ִח ֶ ֖יﬠ ֶזר ֶבּן־ ַﬠ ִֽמּי ַשׁ ָ ֽדּי: for all the other camps, according to its legions. Heading its legion was Achiezer the son of Amishaddai.

כו ְו ַ֨ﬠל־ ְצ ָ֔בא ַמ ֵ ֖טּה ְבֵּ ֣ני ָא ֵ ֑שׁר ַפּ ְג ִﬠ ֵ ֖יאל ֶבּן־ ָﬠ ְכָ ֽרן: Heading the legion of the tribe of the children of Asher was .26

כז ְו ַ֨ﬠל־ ְצ ָ֔בא ַמ ֵ ֖טּה ְבֵּ ֣ני ַנ ְפ ָתּ ִ ֑לי ֲא ִח ַ ֖ירע ֶבּן־ ֵﬠ ָ ֽינ ן: Heading the legion of the tribe of the children of Naphtali .27 was Ahira the son of Enon.

כח ֵ ֛א ֶלּה ַמ ְס ֵ ֥ﬠי ְבֵ ֽני־ ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֖אל ְל ִצ ְב ֹא ָ ֑תם ַו ִיּ ָ ֽסּעוּ: These are the travels of the children of Israel according to .28 their legions, and then they traveled.

ל ַו ֥יּ ֹ ֶאמר ֵא ָ ֖ליו ֣ל ֹא ֵא ֵ ֑ל ִ ֧כּי ִא ֶם־א ַל־אְר ִ ֛צי He said to him, I won't go, for I will go to my land and my .30

לא ַו֕יּ ֹ ֶאמר ַא ָ ֖ל־נא ַ ֽתּ ֲﬠ ֣זֹב ֹא ָ ֑תנוּ ִ ֣כּי | ַﬠ ֵ ֣ל־כּן ָי ַ֗ד ְﬠ ָתּ He said, Please don't leave us, for because you are .31 ֲח ֹנ ֵ֨ת ֙נוּ ַבּ ִמּ ְד ָ֔בּר ְו ָהִ֥יי ָת ָ ֖לּנוּ ְל ֵﬠ ָ ֽינ ִ ים: familiar with our encampments in the desert and you will be our guide.

לב ְו ָהָ ֖יה ִֽכּ ֵי־ת ֵ ֣ל ִﬠ ָ ֑מּנוּ ְו ָהָי֣ה | ַה ֣טּוֹב ַה ֗הוּא ֲא ֶ֨שׁר And if you go with us, then we will bestow on you the good .32

ֵי ִ ֧יטיב ְי ָ ֛הוֹה ִﬠ ָ ֖מּנוּ ְו ֵה ַ ֥ט ְבנוּ ָ ֽל: .which God grants us

לג ַו ִיּ ְס ֙עוּ ֵמ ַ ֣הר ְי ָ ֔הוֹה ֶ ֖דֶּר ְשׁ ֣ל ֶשׁת ָי ִ ֑מים ַ ֽו ֲא ֨רוֹן They traveled a distance of three days from the mountain .33 ְבִּֽרית־ ְי ָ ֜הוֹה ֹנ ֵ ֣ס ַ ִל ְפ ֵנ ֶ֗יהם ֶ֚דֶּר ְשׁ ֣ל ֶשׁת ָי ִ֔מים ָל ֥תוּר of the Lord, and the Ark of the Lord's covenant traveled three ָל ֶ ֖הם ְמ ָ ֽנוּחה: .days ahead of them to seek for them a place to settle

לד ַ ֽו ֲﬠַ ֧נ ן ְי ָ ֛הוֹה ֲﬠ ֵל ֶ ֖יהם יוֹ ָ ֑מם ְבּ ָנ ְס ָ ֖ﬠם ִמ ַן־ה ַ ֽמּ ֲחֶ ֽנה: The cloud of the Lord was above them by day, when they .34 traveled from the camp.

Sixth Portion Numbers Chapter 10 לה ַו ְי ִ ֛הי ִבּ ְנ ֥סֹ ַ ָ ֽה ָא ֖רֹן ַו ֣יּ ֹ ֶאמר מ ֶ ֑שׁה קוּ ָ ֣מה | ְי ָ ֗הוֹה ,So it was, whenever the ark set out, Moses would say .35 ְו ָי ֻ֨פ ֙צוּ ֽ ֹאְי ֶ֔בי ְו ָיֻ ֥נסוּ ְמ ַשׂ ְנ ֶ ֖אי ִמ ָפֶּ ֽני: Arise, O Lord, may Your enemies be scattered and may those who hate You flee from You.

לו וּ ְב ֻנ ֖חֹה י ֹ ַ ֑אמר שׁוּ ָ ֣בה ְי ָ ֔הוֹה ִר ֲב ֖בוֹת ַא ְל ֵ ֥פי ,And when it came to rest he would say, Repose O Lord .36

ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֽאל: .among the myriads of thousands of Israel Numbers Chapter 11 א ַו ְי ִ ֤הי ָה ָﬠ ֙ם ְכּ ִמ ְת ֣ ֹא ְנ ִ֔נים ַ ֖רע ְבּ ָאְזֵ ֣ני ְי ָ ֑הוֹה ַו ִיּ ְשׁ ַ ֤מע The people were looking to complain, and it was evil in the .1 ears of the Lord. The Lord heard and His anger flared, and a ְי ָהוֹ ֙ה ַוִ ֣יּ ַחר ַא ֔פּוֹ ַו ִתּ ְב ַﬠר־ ָבּ ֙ם ֵ ֣אשׁ ְי ָ ֔הוֹה ַו ֖תּ ֹ ַאכל ִבּ ְק ֵ ֥צה ַה ַ ֽמּ ֲחֶ ֽנה: fire from the Lord burned among them, consuming the extremes of the camp.

ב ַו ִיּ ְצ ַ ֥ﬠק ָה ָ ֖ﬠם ֶאל־מ ֶ ֑שׁה ַו ִיּ ְת ַפּ ֵ ֤לּל מ ֶשׁ ֙ה ֶאל־ ְי ָ ֔הוֹה ,The people cried out to Moses; Moses prayed to the Lord .2

ַו ִתּ ְשַׁ ֖ קע ָה ֵ ֽאשׁ: .and the fire died down

ג ַו ִיּ ְקָ ֛רא ֵ ֽשׁ ַם־ה ָמּ ֥קוֹם ַה ֖הוּא ַתּ ְב ֵﬠָ ֑רה ִכּי־ ָ ֽב ֲﬠָ ֥רה ָ ֖בם He named that place Tab'erah, for the fire of the Lord had .3

ֵ ֥אשׁ ְי ָ ֽהוֹה: .burned among them there

ד ְו ָ ֽהא ַס ְפ ֻס ֙ף ֲא ֶ ֣שׁר ְבּ ִקְר ֔בּוֹ ִה ְת ַא֖וּוּ ַ ֽתּ ֲאָ ֑וה ַו ָיּ ֻ ֣שׁבוּ But the multitude among them began to have strong .4 ַו ִיּ ְב ֗כּוּ ַ֚גּם ְבֵּ ֣ני ִי ְשָׂר ֵ֔אל ַו ֣יּ ֹ ְאמ ֔רוּ ִ֥מי ַ ֽי ֲא ִכ ֵ ֖לנוּ ָבּ ָ ֽשׂר: cravings. Then even the children of Israel once again began to cry, and they said, "Who will feed us meat?

ה ָז ַ֨כְר ֙נוּ ֶאת ַ־ה ָדּ ָ֔גה ֲא ֶשׁר־נ ֹ ַ ֥אכל ְבּ ִמ ְצַ ֖ר ִים ִחָ ֑נּם ֵ ֣את ,We remember the fish that we ate in Egypt free of charge .5 ַה ִקּ ֻשּׁ ִ֗אים ְו ֵא ֙ת ָ ֽה ֲא ַב ִטּ ִ֔חים ְו ֶאת ֶ ֽ־ה ָח ִ֥ציר the cucumbers, the watermelons, the leeks, the onions, and ְו ֶאת ַ־ה ְבּ ָצ ִ ֖לים ְו ֶאת ַ־השּׁוּ ִֽמים: .the garlic

ו ְו ַﬠ ָ ֛תּה ַנ ְפ ֵ ֥שׁנוּ ְי ֵב ָ ֖שׁה ֵ ֣אין ֑כֹּל ִבּ ְל ִ ֖תּי ֶא ַל־ה ָ ֥מּן ֵﬠ ֵ ֽינינוּ: ;But now, our bodies are dried out, for there is nothing at all .6 we have nothing but manna to look at."

ז ְו ַה ָ֕מּן ִכּ ְזַרע ַ ֖־גּד ֑הוּא ְו ֵﬠ ֖ינוֹ ְכּ ֵ ֥ﬠין ַה ְבּ ֽדֹ ַלח: Now the manna was like coriander seed, and its .7 appearance was like the appearance of crystal.

ח ֩ ָשׁ ֩טוּ ָה ָ֨ﬠם ְו ָ ֽל ְק ֜טוּ ְו ָ ֽט ֲח ֣נוּ ָ ֽבֵר ַ֗ח ִים ֤אוֹ ָד ֙כוּ ַבּ ְמּדֹ ָ֔כה The people walked about and gathered it. Then they ground .8 וּ ִב ְשּׁ ֙לוּ ַבּ ָפּ ֔רוּר ְו ָﬠ ֥שׂוּ ֹא ֖תוֹ ֻﬠ ֑גוֹת ְו ָהָי֣ה ַט ְﬠ ֔מוֹ ְכּ ַ ֖ט ַﬠם it in a mill or crushed it in a mortar, cooked it in a pot and made ְל ַ ֥שׁד ַה ָ ֽשּׁ ֶמן: .it into cakes. It had a taste like the taste of oil cake

ט וּ ְבֶ ֧ר ֶדת ַה ַ ֛טּל ַﬠ ַל־ה ַ ֽמּ ֲחֶ ֖נה ָ ֑ל ְי ָלה ֵיֵ ֥רד ַה ָ ֖מּן ָﬠ ָ ֽליו: When the dew descended on the camp at night, the manna .9 would descend upon it.

י ַו ִיּ ְשׁ ַ֨מע מ ֶ֜שׁה ֶאת ָ־ה ָ֗ﬠם בֹּ ֶכ ֙ה ְל ִמ ְשׁ ְפּ ָ֔חֹתיו ִ ֖אישׁ Moses heard the people weeping with their families,each .10 ְל ֶ ֣פ ַתח ָ ֽא ֳה ֑לוֹ ַוִֽיּ ַח ַ ֤ר־אף ְי ָהוֹ ֙ה ְמ ֔ ֹאד וּ ְב ֵﬠ ֵ ֥יני מ ֶ ֖שׁה ָ ֽרע: ,one at the entrance to his tent. The Lord became very angry and Moses considered it evil.

יא ַו֨יּ ֹ ֶאמר מ ֶ֜שׁה ֶאל־ ְי ָ ֗הוֹה ָל ָ ֤מה ֲהֵר ֨עֹ ָ֙ת ְל ַﬠ ְב ֶ֔דּ Moses said to the Lord, "Why have You treated Your .11 ְו ָ ֛ל ָמּה ֽל ֹא ָ־מ ָ ֥צ ִתי (חסר א') ֵ ֖חן ְבּ ֵﬠ ֶינ֑י ָל ֗שׂוּם servant so badly? Why have I not found favor in Your eyes that ֶאת ַ־מ ָ ֛שּׂא ָכּ ָל־ה ָ ֥ﬠם ַהֶ ֖זּה ָﬠ ָ ֽלי: ?You place the burden of this entire people upon me

יב ֶה ָ ֽא ֹנ ִ ֣כי ָהִ ֗רי ִתי ֵ֚את ָכּ ָל־ה ָ ֣ﬠם ַה ֶ֔זּה ִא ָ ֽם־א ֹנ ִ ֖כי ,Did I conceive this entire people? Did I give birth to them .12 ְי ִל ְד ִ ֑תּיהוּ ִֽכּי־ת ֹ ַ֨אמר ֵא ַ֜לי ָשׂ ֵ ֣אהוּ ְב ֵח ֶ֗יק ַ ֽכּ ֲא ֶ֨שׁר ִי ָ ֤שּׂא that You say to me, 'Carry them in your bosom as the nurse ָ ֽה ֹא ֵ ֙מן ֶאת ַ־היֵֹּ֔נק ַ֚ﬠל ָ ֽה ֲא ָד ָ֔מה ֲא ֶ ֥שׁר ִנ ְשׁ ַ ֖בּ ְﬠ ָתּ carries the suckling,' to the Land You promised their ַ ֽל ֲאבֹ ָ ֽתיו: ?forefathers

יג ֵמ ַ ֤אִין ִ ֙לי ָבּ ָ֔שׂר ָל ֵ ֖תת ְל ָכ ָל־ה ָ ֣ﬠם ַהֶ ֑זּה ִֽכּי־ ִי ְב ֤כּוּ ָﬠ ַ ֙לי Where can I get meat to give all these people? For they .13

ֵל ֔ ֹאמר ְתּ ָנה־ ָ ֥לּנוּ ָב ָ ֖שׂר ְונ ֹ ֵ ֽאכ ָלה: '.are crying on me, saying, 'Give us meat to eat

יד ֽל ֹא־אוּ ַ ֤כל ָ ֽא ֹנ ִ ֙כי ְל ַב ִ֔דּי ָל ֵ ֖שׂאת ֶאת ָ־כּ ָל־ה ָ ֣ﬠם ַהֶ ֑זּה Alone I cannot carry this entire people for it is too hard for .14

ִ֥כּי ָכ ֵ ֖בד ִמ ֶ ֽמּ ִנּי: .me

טו ְו ִא ָ ֣ם־כּ ָכה | ַא ְתּ־ ֣ﬠֹ ֶשׂה ִ֗לּי ָהְרֵ ֤ג ִני ָנ ֙א ָה ֔רֹג If this is the way You treat me, please kill me if I have .15

ִא ָם־מ ָ ֥צ ִאתי ֵ ֖חן ְבּ ֵﬠ ֶינ֑י ְו ַא ֶל־אְר ֶ ֖אה ְבָּ ֽר ָﬠ ִֽתי: ".found favor in Your eyes, so that I not see my misfortune

טז ַו֨יּ ֹ ֶאמר ְי ָ ֜הוֹה ֶאל־מ ֶ֗שׁה ֶא ְס ָפה־ ִ֞לּי ִשׁ ְב ִ ֣ﬠים ִאי ֘שׁ Then the Lord said to Moses, "Assemble for Me seventy .16 ִמִזּ ְקֵ ֣ני ִי ְשָׂר ֵאל֒ ֲא ֶ ֣שׁר ָי ַ֔ד ְﬠ ָתּ ִכּ ֵ ֛י־הם ִז ְקֵ ֥ני ָה ָ ֖ﬠם men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the people's

ְו ֽשֹׁ ְטָ ֑ריו ְו ָ ֽל ַק ְח ָ ֤תּ ֹא ָת ֙ם ֶא ֣ ֹל־א ֶהל ֵ֔מוֹﬠד ְו ִה ְתַי ְצּ ֥בוּ ָ ֖שׁם elders and officers, and you shall take them to the Tent of Meeting, and they shall stand there with You. ִﬠ ָ ֽמּ:

יז ְוָ ֽי ַ ר ְד ִ֗תּי ְו ִד ַבְּר ִ ֣תּי ִﬠ ְמּ ֘ ָשׁ ֒ם ְו ָ ֽא ַצ ְל ִ֗תּי ִמ ָן־ה ֛ר ַוּ I will come down and speak with you there, and I will .17 increase the spirit that is upon you and bestow it upon them. ֲא ֶ ֥שׁר ָﬠ ֶ ֖לי ְו ַשׂ ְמ ִ ֣תּי ֲﬠ ֵל ֶ ֑יהם ְוָ ֽנ ְשׂ ֤אוּ ִא ְתּ ֙ ְבּ ַמ ָ ֣שּׂא ָה ָ֔ﬠם ְו ֽל ֹא ִ־ת ָ ֥שּׂא ַא ָ ֖תּה ְל ַבֶ ֽדּ: Then they will bear the burden of the people with you so that you need not bear it alone.

יח ְו ֶא ָל־ה ָ֨ﬠם תּ ֹ ַ֜אמר ִה ְת ַק ְדּ ֣שׁוּ ְל ָמ ָח ֘ר ַ ֽו ֲא ַכ ְל ֶ ֣תּם And to the people, you shall say, 'Prepare yourselves for .18 ָבּ ָשׂר֒ ִ֡כּי ְבּ ִכי ֶת ֩ם ְבּ ָאְז ֵ֨ני ְי ָ ֜הוֹה ֵל ֗ ֹאמר ִ ֤מי ַ ֽי ֲא ִכ ֵ֨ל ֙נוּ ָבּ ָ֔שׂר tomorrow and you shall eat meat, because you have cried in ִכּ ֥י־טוֹב ָ ֖לנוּ ְבּ ִמ ְצָ ֑ר ִים ְו ָנ ַ֨תן ְי ָ ֧הוֹה ָל ֶ ֛כם ָבּ ָ ֖שׂר the ears of the Lord saying, "Who will feed us meat, for we had it better in Egypt." [Therefore,] the Lord will give you meat, and ַ ֽו ֲא ַכ ְל ֶ ֽתּם: you shall eat.

יט ֣ל ֹא ֥יוֹם ֶא ָ ֛חד ֽתּ ֹ ְאכ ֖לוּן ְו ֣ל ֹא יוֹ ָ ֑מִים ְו ֣ל ֹא | ֲח ִמ ָ ֣שּׁה ,You shall eat it not one day, not two days, not five days .19

ָי ִ֗מים ְול ֹ֙א ֲﬠ ָשָׂ ֣רה ָי ִ֔מים ְו ֖ל ֹא ֶﬠ ְשִׂ֥רים ֽיוֹם: .not ten days, and not twenty days

כ ַ ֣ﬠד | ֣חֹ ֶדשׁ ָי ִ֗מים ַ ֤ﬠד ֲא ֶשׁר־ ֵי ֵצ ֙א ֵ ֽמ ַא ְפּ ֶ֔כם ְו ָהָ ֥יה But even for a full month until it comes out your nose and .20 ָל ֶ ֖כם ְל ָזָ ֑רא ַ֗י ַﬠן ִֽכּ ְי־מ ַא ְס ֶ ֤תּם ֶאת־ ְי ָהוֹ ֙ה ֲא ֶ ֣שׁר nauseates you. Because you have despised the Lord Who is

ְבּ ִקְר ְבּ ֶ֔כם ַו ִתּ ְב ֤כּוּ ְל ָפ ָנ ֙יו ֵל ֔ ֹאמר ָ ֥ל ָמּה ֶ ֖זּה ָי ָ ֥צאנוּ among you, and you cried before Him, saying, "Why did we ever leave Egypt?"'" ִמ ִמּ ְצָ ֽר ִים:

כא ַו֘יּ ֹ ֶאמ ֘ר מ ֶשׁ ֒ה ֵשׁ ֵשׁ־מ ֥אוֹת ֶ֨א ֶל ֙ף ַר ְג ִ֔לי ָה ָ֕ﬠם ֲא ֶ ֥שׁר Moses said, "Six hundred thousand people on foot are the .21 ָ ֽא ֹנ ִ ֖כי ְבּ ִקְר ֑בּוֹ ְו ַא ָ ֣תּה ָא ַ֗מְר ָתּ ָבּ ָשׂ ֙ר ֶא ֵ ֣תּן ָל ֶ֔הם ְו ָ ֽא ְכ ֖לוּ people in whose midst I am, and You say, 'I will give them ֥חֹ ֶדשׁ ָי ִֽמים: ?'meat, and they will eat it for a full month

כב ֲה ֧צ ֹאן וּ ָבָ ֛ קר ִי ָשּׁ ֵ ֥חט ָל ֶ ֖הם וּ ָמ ָ ֣צא ָל ֶ ֑הם ִ ֣אם If sheep and cattle were slaughtered for them, would it .22 ֶאת ָ־כּ ְל־דֵּ ֥גי ַהָיּ֛ם ֵ ֽי ָא ֵ ֥סף ָל ֶ ֖הם וּ ָמ ָ ֥צא ָל ֶ ֽהם: suffice for them? If all the fish of the sea were gathered for them, would it suffice for them?"

כג ַו ֤יּ ֹ ֶאמר ְי ָהוֹ ֙ה ֶאל־מ ֶ֔שׁה ֲהַ ֥יד ְי ָ ֖הוֹה ִתּ ְק ָ ֑צר ַﬠ ָ ֥תּה Then the Lord said to Moses, "Is My power limited? Now .23

ִתְר ֶ ֛אה ֲהִי ְקְר ֥ ְד ָבִ ֖רי ִאם־ ֽל ֹא: "!you will see if My word comes true for you or not

כד ַו ֵיּ ֵ ֣צא מ ֶ֗שׁה ַו ְי ַד ֵבּ ֙ר ֶא ָל־ה ָ֔ﬠם ֵ ֖את ִדּ ְבֵ ֣רי ְי ָ ֑הוֹה Moses went out and told the people what the Lord had .24 ַוֶ ֽיּ ֱא ֞סֹף ִשׁ ְב ִ֥ﬠים ִאי ֙שׁ ִמִזּ ְקֵ ֣ני ָה ָ֔ﬠם ַוַ ֽיּ ֲﬠ ֵ ֥מד ֹא ָ ֖תם said, and he assembled seventy men of the elders of the ְס ִבי ֥בֹת ָה ֽ ֹא ֶהל: .people, and stood them around the Tent

כה ַוֵ֨יֶּרד ְי ָ ֣הוֹה | ֶ ֽבּ ָﬠ ָנ֘ן ַו ְי ַד ֵ ֣בּר ֵא ָל ֒יו ַוָ֗יּ ֶאצל ִמ ָן־ה ֨ר ַ ֙וּ The Lord descended in a cloud and spoke to him, and He .25 increased some of the spirit that was on him and bestowed it ֲא ֶ ֣שׁר ָﬠ ָ֔ליו ַו ִיּ ֵ֕תּן ַﬠל־ ִשׁ ְב ִ֥ﬠים ִ ֖אישׁ ַה ְזּ ֵקִ ֑נים ַו ְי ִ֗הי ְכּ ֤נ ַוֹ ֲﬠ ֵל ֶיה ֙ם ָה ֔ר ַוּ ַוִֽיּ ְת ַנ ְבּ ֖אוּ ְו ֥ל ֹא ָי ָ ֽספוּ: ,on the seventy elders. And when the spirit rested upon them they prophesied, but they did not continue.

כו ַו ִיּ ָ ֽשּׁ ֲא ֣רוּ ְשֵׁ ֽנ ֲי־א ָנ ִ ֣שׁים | ַבּ ַ ֽמּ ֲח ֶ֡נה ֵ ֣שׁם ָ ֽה ֶא ָ ֣חד | Now two men remained in the camp; the name of one was .26 Eldad and the name of the second was Medad, and the spirit ֶא ְל ָ֡דּד ְו ֵשׁ ֩ם ַה ֵשּׁ ִ֨ני ֵמ ָ֜ידד ַו ָ ֧תּ ַנח ֲﬠ ֵל ֶ ֣הם ָה ֗ר ַוּ ְו ֵ֨ה ָמּ ֙ה ַבּ ְכּ ֻת ִ֔בים ְו ֥ל ֹא ָ ֽי ְצ ֖אוּ ָה ֑ ֹא ֱה ָלה ַו ִיּ ְת ַנ ְבּ ֖אוּ ַבּ ַ ֽמּ ֲחֶ ֽנה: rested upon them. They were among those written, but they did not go out to the tent, but prophesied in the camp.

כז ַוָיּ֣ ָ רץ ַה ַ֔נּ ַﬠר ַו ַיֵּ ֥גּד ְלמ ֶ ֖שׁה ַויּ ֹ ַ ֑אמר ֶא ְל ָ ֣דּד וּ ֵמ ָ֔ידד The lad ran and told Moses, saying, "Eldad and Medad .27

ִמ ְת ַנ ְבּ ִ ֖אים ַבּ ַ ֽמּ ֲחֶ ֽנה: "!are prophesying in the camp

כח ַוַ֜יּ ַﬠן ְי ֻ ֣הוֹשׁ ַ ִבּ ֗ן־נוּן ְמ ָשֵׁ ֥רת מ ֶ ֛שׁה ִמ ְבּ ֻחָ ֖ריו ,Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' servant from his youth .28

ַויּ ֹ ַ ֑אמר ֲאדִֹ֥ני מ ֶ ֖שׁה ְכּ ָל ֵ ֽאם: "!answered and said, Moses, my master, imprison them

כט ַו ֤יּ ֹ ֶאמר ֙לוֹ מ ֶ֔שׁה ַ ֽה ְמ ַקֵ ֥נּא ַא ָ ֖תּה ִ ֑לי וּ ִ֨מי ִי ֵ֜תּן Moses said to him, "Are you zealous for my sake? If only .29 ָכּל־ ַ ֤ﬠם ְי ָהוֹ ֙ה ְנ ִב ִ֔יאים ִֽכּי־ ִי ֵ ֧תּן ְי ָ ֛הוֹה ֶאת ֖־רוּחוֹ ֲﬠ ֵל ֶ ֽיהם: all the Lord's people were prophets, that the Lord would bestow His spirit upon them!"

Seventh Portion Numbers Chapter 11

ל ַוֵ ֽיּ ָא ֵ ֥סף מ ֶ ֖שׁה ֶא ַל־ה ַ ֽמּ ֲחֶ ֑נה ֖הוּא ְו ִז ְקֵ ֥ני ִי ְשָׂר ֵ ֽאל: .Then Moses entered the camp; he and the elders of Israel .30

לא ְו ֜ר ַוּ ָנ ַ ֣סע | ֵמ ֵ ֣את ְי ָ ֗הוֹה ַוָיּ֣ ָ גז ַשׂ ְלִוים֘ ִמ ַן־הָיּ ֒ם A wind went forth from the Lord and swept quails from the .31 sea and spread them over the camp about one day's journey ַו ִיּ ֨טּשׁ ַﬠ ַל־ה ַ ֽמּ ֲח ֶ֜נה ְכֶּ ֧דֶר ֣יוֹם ֗כֹּה וּ ְכֶ ֤דֶר ֙יוֹם ֔כֹּה ְס ִבי ֖בוֹת ַה ַ ֽמּ ֲחֶ ֑נה וּ ְכ ַא ָמּ ַ ֖תִים ַﬠ ְל־פֵּ ֥ני ָה ָ ֽאֶרץ: ,this way and one day's journey that way, around the camp about two cubits above the ground.

לב ַוָיּ֣ ָ קם ָה ָ֡ﬠם ָכּ ַל־ה ֩יּוֹם ַה ֨הוּא ְו ָכ ַל־ה ַ֜לּ ְי ָלה ְו ֣כֹל | The people rose up all that day and all night and the next .32 ֣יוֹם ַה ָ ֽמּ ֳחָ ֗רת ַוַ ֽיּ ַא ְס ֙פוּ ֶאת ַ־ה ְשּׂ ָ֔ליו (כתיב השלו) day and gathered the quails. [Even] the one who gathered the least collected ten heaps. They spread them around the camp in piles. ַה ַמּ ְמ ִ֕ﬠיט ָא ַ ֖סף ֲﬠ ָשָׂ ֣רה ֳח ָמִ ֑רים ַו ִיּ ְשׁ ְט ֤חוּ ָל ֶה ֙ם ָשׁ ֔ט ַוֹ ְס ִבי ֖בוֹת ַה ַ ֽמּ ֲחֶ ֽנה:

לג ַה ָבּ ָ֗שׂר ֶ֨עוֹד ֙נּוּ ֵ ֣בּין ִשׁ ֵנּ ֶ֔יהם ֶ ֖טֶרם ִי ָכֵּ ֑רת ְו ַ ֤אף ְי ָהוֹ ֙ה The meat was still between their teeth; it was not yet .33 ָחָ ֣רה ָב ָ֔ﬠם ַוַיּ֤ ְי ָהוֹ ֙ה ָבּ ָ֔ﬠם ַמ ָ ֖כּה ַר ָ ֥בּה ְמ ֽ ֹאד: ,finished, and the anger of the Lord flared against the people and the Lord struck the people with a very mighty blow.

לד ַו ִיּ ְקָ ֛רא ֶאת־ ֵ ֽשׁ ַם־ה ָמּ ֥קוֹם ַה ֖הוּא ִק ְב ֣רוֹת ַה ַ ֽתּ ֲאָ ֑וה He named that place Kivroth Hata'avah [Graves of .34

ִכּי־ ָשׁ ֙ם ָ ֽק ְב ֔רוּ ֶאת ָ־ה ָ ֖ﬠם ַה ִמּ ְת ַאִֽוּים: .Craving], for there they buried the people who craved

לה ִמ ִקּ ְב ֧רוֹת ַה ַ ֽתּ ֲאָ ֛וה ָ ֽנ ְס ֥ﬠוּ ָה ָ ֖ﬠם ֲח ֵצ ֑רוֹת ַוִֽיּ ְה֖יוּ ,From Kivroth Hata'avah the people traveled to Hazeroth .35

ַ ֽבּ ֲח ֵצֽרוֹת: .and they stayed in Hazeroth

Numbers Chapter 12 א ַו ְתַּד ֵ֨בּר ִמְרָ ֤ים ְו ַ ֽא ֲה ֙רֹן ְבּמ ֶ֔שׁה ַﬠ ֹל־א ֛דוֹת ָ ֽה ִא ָ ֥שּׁה Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses regarding the .1 ַה ֻכּ ִ ֖שׁית ֲא ֶ ֣שׁר ָלָ ֑ קח ִֽכּ ִי־א ָ ֥שּׁה ֻכ ִ ֖שׁית ָלָ ֽ קח: Cushite woman he had married, for he had married a Cushite woman.

ב ַו ֽיּ ֹ ְאמ ֗רוּ ֲהַ ֤רק ַא־ ְבּמ ֶשׁ ֙ה ִדּ ֶ ֣בּר ְי ָ ֔הוֹה ֲה ֖ל ֹא ַגּם־ ָ ֣בּנוּ They said, "Has the Lord spoken only to Moses? Hasn't He .2

ִד ֵ ֑בּר ַו ִיּ ְשׁ ַ ֖מע ְי ָ ֽהוֹה: .spoken to us too?" And the Lord heard

ג ְו ָה ִ֥אישׁ מ ֶ ֖שׁה ָﬠָ ֣ניו (כתיב ענו) ְמ ֑ ֹאד ִמכֹּ ֙ל ָה ָא ָ֔דם Now this man Moses was exceedingly humble, more so .3

ֲא ֶ ֖שׁר ַﬠ ְל־פֵּ ֥ני ָ ֽה ֲא ָד ָ ֽמה: .than any person on the face of the earth

ד ַו֨יּ ֹ ֶאמר ְי ָ ֜הוֹה ִפּ ְת ֗ ֹאם ֶאל־מ ֶ ֤שׁה ְו ֶא ַ ֽל־א ֲה ֙רֹן The Lord suddenly said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam, "Go .4 ְו ֶא ִל־מְר ָ֔ים ְצ ֥אוּ ְשׁ ָל ְשׁ ְתּ ֶ ֖כם ֶא ֣ ֹל־א ֶהל ֵ ֑מוֹﬠד ַוֵ ֽיּ ְצ ֖אוּ out, all three of you, to the Tent of Meeting!" And all three went ְשׁ ָל ְשׁ ָ ֽתּם: .out

ה ַוֵיּ֤ ֶ רד ְי ָהוֹ ֙ה ְבּ ַﬠ ֣מּוּד ָﬠ ָ֔נן ַוַ ֽיּ ֲﬠ ֖ ֹמד ֶ ֣פּ ַתח ָה ֑ ֹא ֶהל The Lord descended in a pillar of cloud and stood at the .5 ַו ִיּ ְקָר ֙א ַ ֽא ֲה ֣רֹן וּ ִמְר ָ֔ים ַוֵ ֽיּ ְצ ֖אוּ ְשׁ ֵנ ֶ ֽיהם: entrance of the Tent. He called to Aaron and Miriam, and they both went out.

ו ַו ֖יּ ֹ ֶאמר ִשׁ ְמ ָ ֣עוּ־נא ְד ָבָ ֑רי ִאם־ִֽי ְהֶי ֙ה ְנ ִ ֣ב ֲיא ֶ֔כם ְי ָ ֗הוֹה He said, "Please listen to My words. If there be prophets .6 ַבּ ַמְּר ָא ֙ה ֵא ָ ֣ליו ֶא ְתַו ָ֔דּע ַ ֽבּ ֲח ֖לוֹם ֲא ַד ֶבּר־ ֽבּוֹ: among you, [I] the Lord will make Myself known to him in a vision; I will speak to him in a dream.

ז ל ֹא ֵ ֖־כן ַﬠ ְבִ ֣דּי מ ֶ ֑שׁה ְבּ ָכל־ ֵבּי ִ ֖תי ֶ ֽנ ֱא ָ ֥מן ֽהוּא: Not so is My servant Moses; he is faithful throughout My .7 house.

ח ֶ ֣פּה ֶא ֶ֞ל־פּה ֲא ַד ֶבּר־ ֗בּוֹ וּ ַמְר ֶא ֙ה ְו ֣ל ֹא ְב ִח ֔ידֹת With him I speak mouth to mouth; in a vision and not in .8 ְוּת ֻמַ ֥נת ְי ָ ֖הוֹה ַי ִ ֑בּיט וּ ַמ ֨דּ ַ֙וּ ֣ל ֹא ְיֵר ֶ֔אתם ְל ַד ֵ ֖בּר ְבּ ַﬠ ְבִ֥דּי riddles, and he beholds the image of the Lord. So why were ְבמ ֶ ֽשׁה: ? you not afraid to speak against My servant Moses

ט ַוִֽיּ ַח ַ ֧ר־אף ְי ָ ֛הוֹה ָ ֖בּם ַו ֵיּ ַ ֽל: .The wrath of the Lord flared against them and He left .9 י ְו ֶ ֽה ָﬠ ָ֗נן ָ֚סר ֵמ ַ ֣ﬠל ָה ֔ ֹא ֶהל ְו ִהֵ ֥נּה ִמְרָי֖ם ְמצַֹ ֣ר ַﬠת ,The cloud departed from above the Tent, and behold .10 ַכּ ָ ֑שּׁ ֶלג ַוִ ֧יּ ֶפן ַ ֽא ֲה ֛רֹן ֶא ִל־מְרָי֖ם ְו ִהֵ ֥נּה ְמצָֹ ֽר ַﬠת: Miriam was afflicted with tzara'ath, [as white] as snow. Then Aaron turned to Miriam and behold, she was afflicted with tzara'ath.

יא ַו ֥יּ ֹ ֶאמר ַ ֽא ֲה ֖רֹן ֶאל־מ ֶ ֑שׁה ִ ֣בּי ֲאדִֹ֔ני ַא ָ֨ל־נא ָת ֵ ֤שׁת Aaron said to Moses, "Please, master, do not put sin upon .11

ָﬠ ֵ֨ל ֙ינוּ ַח ָ֔טּאת ֲא ֶ ֥שׁר ַ ֖נוֹא ְלנוּ ַ ֽו ֲא ֶ ֥שׁר ָח ָ ֽטאנוּ: .us for acting foolishly and for sinning

יב ַא ָ ֥ל־נא ְת ִ ֖הי ַכּ ֵ ֑מּת ֲא ֶ ֤שׁר ְבּ ֵצ ֙אתוֹ ֵמֶ ֣ר ֶחם ִא ֔מּוֹ Let her not be like the dead, which comes out of his .12

ַוֵ ֽיּ ָא ֵ ֖כל ֲח ִ֥צי ְב ָשֽׂרוֹ: "!mother's womb with half his flesh consumed

יג ַו ִיּ ְצ ַ ֣ﬠק מ ֶ֔שׁה ֶאל־ ְי ָ ֖הוֹה ֵל ֑ ֹאמר ֵ֕אל ָ ֛נא ְר ָ ֥פא ָ ֖נא ,Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, "I beseech you, God .13

ָ ֽלהּ: ".please heal her

יד ַו֨יּ ֹ ֶאמר ְי ָ ֜הוֹה ֶאל־מ ֶ֗שׁה ְו ָא ִ֨ב ָ֙יה ָי ֤רֹק ָיַר ֙ק ְבּ ָפ ֶ֔נ ָיה The Lord replied to Moses, "If her father were to spit in her .14 face, would she not be humiliated for seven days? She shall be ֲה ֥ל ֹא ִת ָכּ ֵ ֖לם ִשׁ ְב ַ ֣ﬠת ָי ִ ֑מים ִתּ ָסּ ֵ֞גר ִשׁ ְב ַ ֤ﬠת ָי ִמי ֙ם ִמ ֣חוּץ ַל ַ ֽמּ ֲח ֶ֔נה ְו ַא ַ ֖חר ֵ ֽתּ ָא ֵ ֽסף: confined for seven days outside the camp, and afterwards she may enter.

טו ַו ִתּ ָסֵּ ֥גר ִמְרָ ֛ים ִמ ֥חוּץ ַל ַ ֽמּ ֲחֶ ֖נה ִשׁ ְב ַ ֣ﬠת ָי ִ ֑מים ְו ָה ָﬠ ֙ם ,So Miriam was confined outside the camp for seven days .15

֣ל ֹא ָנ ַ֔סע ַﬠ ֵ ֽד־ה ָא ֵ ֖סף ִמְרָ ֽים: .and the people did not travel until Miriam had entered

טז ְו ַא ַ ֛חר ָ ֽנ ְס ֥ﬠוּ ָה ָ ֖ﬠם ֵ ֽמ ֲח ֵצ ֑רוֹת ַוַ ֽיּ ֲח ֖נוּ ְבּ ִמ ְד ַ ֥בּר Then the people departed from Hazeroth, and they .16

ָפּ ָ ֽארן: .camped in the desert of Paran

טז ְו ָנ ַ֨חל ְי ָ֚הוֹה ֶאת־ ְי ָהוּד ֙ה ֶח ְל ֔קוֹ ַ ֖ﬠל ַא ְד ַ ֣מת ַה ֑קֹּ ֶדשׁ And the Lord shall inherit Judah as His share on the Holy .16

וּ ָב ַ ֥חר ֖ﬠוֹד ִבּ ֽיר ָוּשׁ ָל ִֽם: .Land, and He shall again choose Jerusalem

יז ַ ֥הס ָכּל ָבּ ָ ֖שׂר ִמ ְפֵּ ֣ני ְי ָ ֑הוֹה ִ֥כּי ֵנ ֖ﬠוֹר ִמ ְמּ ֥ﬠוֹן ָק ְד ֽשׁוֹ: Silence all flesh from before the Lord, for He is aroused .17 out of His holy habitation.

ב ַו֨יּ ֹ ֶאמר ְי ָ ֜הוֹה ֶא ַל־ה ָשּׂ ָ֗טן ִי ְג ַ֨ﬠר ְי ָ֚הוֹה ְבּ ֙ ַה ָשּׂ ָ֔טן And the Lord said to Satan: The Lord shall rebuke you, O .2 ְו ִי ְג ַ֚ ﬠר ְי ָהוֹ ֙ה ְבּ ֔ ַהבֹּ ֵ ֖חר ִבּ ֽיר ָוּשׁ ָל ִ ֑ם ֲה ֧לוֹא ֶ ֥ז ֥ה ֖אוּד Satan; and the Lord shall rebuke you, He who chose ֻמ ָ ֥צּל ֵמ ֵ ֽאשׁ: ?Jerusalem. Is this one not a brand plucked from fire

ג ִֽו ֻ֕יהוֹשׁ ַ ָהָ ֥יה ָל ֖בוּשׁ ְבּ ָגִ ֣דים ִ ֑צוֹאים ְועֹ ֵ ֖מד ִל ְפֵ ֥ני Now Joshua was wearing filthy garments and standing .3

ַה ַמּ ְל ָ ֽא: .before the angel

ד ַוַיּ֣ ַﬠן ַו֗יּ ֹ ֶאמר ֶא ָל־ה ֽﬠֹ ְמ ִ֚דים ְל ָפ ָנ ֙יו ֵל ֔ ֹאמר ָה ִ ֛סירוּ And he [the angel] raised his voice and said to those .4 standing before him, saying, "Take the filthy garments off him." ַה ְבּ ָגִ֥דים ַהצֹּ ִ ֖אים ֵמ ָﬠ ָ ֑ליו ַ ֣ויּ ֹ ֶאמר ֵא ָ֗ליו ְר ֵ֨אה ֶ ֽה ֱﬠ ַ֚בְר ִתּי ֵ ֽמ ָﬠ ֶ֙ל ֙י ֲﬠוֹ ֶ֔נ ְו ַה ְל ֵ ֥בּשׁ ֽ ֹא ְת ֖ ַ ֽמ ֲח ָל ֽצוֹת: And he said to him, "See, I have removed your iniquity from you, and I have clad you with clean garments."

ה ָ ֽו ֹא ַ֕מר ָי ִ ֛שׂימוּ ָצִ֥ניף ָט ֖הוֹר ַﬠל־ר ֹא ֑שׁוֹ ַו ָיּ ִשׂי ֩מוּ And I said, "Let them put a pure miter on his head," and .5 ַה ָצּ ִ֨ניף ַה ָטּ ֜הוֹר ַﬠל־ר ֹא ֗שׁוֹ ַו ַיּ ְל ִבּ ֻ֙שׁ ֙הוּ ְבּ ָגִ֔דים וּ ַמ ְל ַ ֥א they put the pure miter on his head. And they had clothed him ְי ָ ֖הוֹה עֹ ֵ ֽמד: .with garments while the angel of the Lord was standing

ו ַ ֙ו ָיּ ַﬠ ֙ד ַמ ְל ַ ֣א ְי ָ ֔הוֹה ִֽבּ ֻ ֖יהוֹשׁ ַ ֵל ֽ ֹאמר: ,And the angel of the Lord warned Joshua, saying .6

ז ֽכֹּה ָ־א ַ֞מר ְי ָ ֣הוֹה ְצ ָב ֗אוֹת ִאם־ ִבּ ְדָר ַ֚כי ֵתּ ֵל ֙ ְו ִ ֣אם So said the Lord of Hosts: If you walk in My ways, and if .7 ֶאת ִ־מ ְשׁ ַמְר ִ ֣תּי ִת ְשׁ ֔ ֹמר ְו ַג ַם־א ָתּ ֙ה ָתִּ ֣דין ֶאת־ ֵבּי ִ֔תי ְוַ ֖גם ,you keep My charge, you, too, shall judge My house, and you

ִתּ ְשׁ ֣ ֹמר ֶאת ֲ־ח ֵצָ ֑רי ְו ָנ ַת ִ֚תּי ְל ֙ ַמ ְה ְל ִ֔כים ֵ ֥בּין ָה ֽﬠֹ ְמִ ֖דים too, shall guard My courtyards, and I will give you free access among these who stand by. ָה ֵ ֽא ֶלּה:

ח ְֽשׁ ַמע ָ֞־נא ְי ֻ ֣הוֹשׁ ַ | ַהכֹּ ֵ ֣הן ַה ָגּ ֗דוֹל ַא ָתּ ֙ה ְוֵר ֶ֙ﬠ ֙י Hearken, now, O Joshua the High Priest-you and your .8 ַהֽיֹּ ְשׁ ִ ֣בים ְל ָפ ֶ֔ני ִֽכּ ַי־א ְנ ֵ ֥שׁי מוֹ ֵ ֖פת ֵ ֑ה ָמּה ִֽכּ ִי־ה ְנִ֥ני ֵמ ִ ֛ביא companions who sit before you, for they are men worthy of a ֶאת־ ַﬠ ְבִ ֖דּי ֶ ֽצ ַמח: .miracle-for, behold! I bring My servant, the Shoot

ט ִ ֣כּי | ִהֵ ֣נּה ָה ֶ֗א ֶבן ֲא ֶ֚שׁר ָנ ַ֙ת ִ ֙תּי ִל ְפֵ ֣ני ְי ֻ֔הוֹשׁ ַ .For, behold the stone that I have placed before Joshua .9 ַﬠ ֶ ֥ל־א ֶבן ַא ַ ֖חת ִשׁ ְב ָ ֣ﬠה ֵﬠ ָ ֑ינ ִ ים ִֽה ְנִ ֧ני ְמ ַפ ֵ ֣תַּ ִפּ ֻתּ ָ֗חהּ ,Seven eyes are directed to one stone. Behold! I untie its knots

ְנ ֻא ֙ם ְי ָ ֣הוֹה ְצ ָב ֔אוֹת וּ ַמ ְשׁ ִ ֛תּי ֶאת־ ֲﬠ וֹ֥ן ָה ָ ֽאֶר ַץ־ה ִ ֖היא says the Lord of Hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day. ְבּ֥יוֹם ֶא ָ ֽחד:

י ַבּ֣יּוֹם ַה ֗הוּא ְנ ֻא ֙ם ְי ָ ֣הוֹה ְצ ָב ֔אוֹת ִתּ ְקְר ֖אוּ ִ ֣אישׁ On that day, says the Lord of Hosts, you shall call-each .10 ְלֵר ֵ ֑ﬠהוּ ֶא ַ ֥ל־תּ ַחת ֶ ֖גּ ֶפן ְו ֶא ַ ֥ל־תּ ַחת ְתּ ֵאָ ֽנה: man to his neighbor-to come under his vine and under his fig tree.

Zechariah Chapter 4 א ַוָ֕יּ ָשׁב ַה ַמּ ְל ָ ֖א ַהדֵֹּ ֣בר ִ ֑בּי ַו ְי ִﬠ ֵ ֕יר ִני ְכּ ִ ֖אישׁ And the angel who spoke with me returned, and he .1

ֲא ֶשׁר־ ֵי ֥ﬠוֹר ִמ ְשּׁ ָנ ֽתוֹ: .awakened me as a man who wakes up from his sleep

ב ַו ֣יּ ֹ ֶאמר ֵא ַ֔לי ָ ֥מה ַא ָ ֖תּה רֹ ֶ ֑אה ָ ֽו ֹא ַ֡מר (כתיב ָו ֹיא ַ֡מר) ,And he said to me, "What do you see?" And I said, "I saw .2 ָר ִ ֣אי ִתי ְו ִהֵ ֽנּה ְ־מ ַנוֹר ֩ת ָז ָ֨הב ֻכּ ָ֜לּהּ ְו ֻגָ ֣לּהּ ַﬠל־ר ֹא ָ֗שׁהּ -and behold [there was] a candelabrum all of gold, with its oil

ְו ִשׁ ְב ָ֚ﬠה ֵנֽרֹ ֶ֙ת ָ֙יה ָﬠ ֶ֔ל ָיה ִשׁ ְב ָ֚ﬠה ְו ִשׁ ְב ָﬠ ֙ה ֽמ ָוּצ ֔קוֹת bowl on top of it, and its seven lamps thereon; seven tubes each to the lamps that were on top of it. ַל ֵנּ ֖רוֹת ֲא ֶ ֥שׁר ַﬠל־ר ֹא ָ ֽשׁהּ:

ג ְוּשַׁ ֥נ ִ ים ֵזי ִ ֖תים ָﬠ ֶ ֑ל ָיה ֶא ָח ֙ד ִמי ִ ֣מין ַה ֻגּ ָ֔לּה ְו ֶא ָ ֖חד And [there were] two olive trees near it; one on the right of .3

ַﬠל־ ְשׂמ ֹא ָ ֽלהּ: .the bowl, and one on its left

ד ָו ַ֙א ַ ֙ﬠן ָ ֽו ֹא ַ֔מר ֶאל ַה ַמּ ְל ָ ֛א ַהדֵֹּ ֥בר ִ ֖בּי ֵל ֑ ֹאמר ָ ֥מה ,So I answered and spoke to the angel who talked with me .4

ֵ ֖א ֶלּה ֲאדִֹֽני: "?saying, "What are these, my lord

ה ַ֠ו ַיּ ַﬠן ַה ַמּ ְל ָ֞א ַהדֵֹּ ֥בר ִ ֙בּי ַו ֣יּ ֹ ֶאמר ֵא ַ֔לי ֲה ֥לוֹא ָי ַ ֖ד ְﬠתּ And the angel who spoke with me answered, and he said to .5 ָמה ֵ ֣ה ָמּה ֵ ֑א ֶלּה ָ ֽו ֹא ַ ֖מר ֥ל ֹא ֲאדִֹֽני: me, "Do you not know what these are?" And I said, "No, my lord."

ו ַוַ֜יּ ַﬠן ַויּ֚ ֹ ֶאמר ֵא ַ ֙לי ֵל ֔ ֹאמר ֶזה ְדּ ַבר־ ְי ָ ֔הוֹה ֶאל־ ְזֻר ָבּ ֶ ֖בל And he answered and spoke to me, saying, "This is the .6 word of the Lord to Zerubbabel, saying: 'Not by military force ֵל ֑ ֹאמר ֚ל ֹא ְב ַ֙ח ִי ֙ל ְו ֣ל ֹא ְב ֔כַֹ ִ ֣כּי ִאם־ ְבּ ִ֔רוּחי ָא ַ ֖מר ְי ָ ֥הוֹה ְצ ָב ֽאוֹת: and not by physical strength, but by My spirit,' says the Lord of Hosts.

ז ִֽמ ַי־א ָ ֧תּה ַ ֽה ַר־ה ָגּ֛דוֹל ִל ְפֵ ֥ני ְזֻר ָבּ ֶ ֖בל ְל ִמי ֑שֹׁר ְו ִהוֹצ ֙יא Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you .7 ֶאת ָ־ה ֶ ֣א ֶבן ָ ֽהר ֹא ָ֔שׁה ְתּ ֻשׁ ֕אוֹת ֵ ֥חן ֵ ֖חן ָ ֽלהּ: ,sink to a plain! He will bring out the stone of the main architect with shouts of grace, grace to it."
