"Mary Poppins" (1964) came out 56 years ago, and the long-awaited sequel was released in 2018.

Walt Disney first went after the rights to make the Mary Poppins film in 1938, which was four years after P.L. Travers released the first book. Despite the author turning him down, Walt Disney never gave up. He sent his brother Roy to ask the author again in 1944… but the answer was still no.
