Through the support of the community and our sponsors we are sure we will provide a wonderful community event for our region. If a person has concerns with having their photo used for this purpose, please advise our official photographer when the picture is being taken and it will not be used in further publication. All photos shown on the website (plus many others) are available for viewing and purchase. EVENT INFORMATION VENUE The 2017 Weipa Fishing Classic will be held at the Western Cape College Grounds. The Committee seeks co-operation from all com- petitors and attendees to respect the College grounds, buildings and facilities at all times. The Western Cape College is a SMOKE FREE venue. VENUE OPENING AND CLOSING TIMES The venue will be open at the following times: Friday, 9th June2017 from 5.00pm to midnight Saturday, 10th June, 2017 from 4.00pm to midnight Sunday, 11th June, 2017 from 4.00pm to midnight ALCOHOL Patrons are advised that if alcohol is consumed at the venue, it must be done so responsibly. Bar facilities will operate during these times at the discretion of the Weipa Fishing Classic Event Management, who also have the right to refuse service of alcohol and remove people from the event. It is illegal to bring alcohol onto the grounds, and patrons should be ad- vised that police and security will be present throughout the entire week- end. There will be mandatory BAG SEARCHES upon entry to the grounds. 18+ ID required at entry to the event. Wristbands will be fitted to 18+ pa- trons on entry to the grounds. All patrons MUST have wristbands to pur- chase, hold or consume alcohol. FISHING GROUNDS Include all the waters within and offshore waters adjacent to Albatross Bay and Port Musgrave. ALCOHOL MANAGEMENT Alcohol Management Plans exist for the Mapoon and Napranum communities. Please ensure you are familiar with the alcohol restrictions which apply. ALCOHOL RESTRICTIONS Restrictions on the type and quantity of liquor that can be brought into various remote Indigenous communities have been implemented in Queensland. Alcohol Management Plans are developed by Community Justice Groups and contain recommendations for declaring all or part of a community area, a restricted area and/or a dry place. To download legislation documents, brochures and forms relating to Liquor Licensing go to the Queensland Government’s Liquor Licencing Division website at www.liquor.qld.gov.au/our products/brochures. ALCOHOL LICENCING INFORMATION U18’s will only be permitted inside the licenced area if they are under the direct supervision of a parent or an adult with parental rights and responsibilities. U18’s are not permitted to consume alcohol anywhere on the Western Cape College grounds. BYO alcohol is not permitted. Security will be on duty throughout the weekend. Bags & esky’s will be searched on entry to the grounds. 18+ ID required at entry to the event. Wristbands will be fitted to 18+ patrons on entry to the grounds. All patrons MUST have wristbands to purchase, hold or consume alcohol. Alcohol cannot be consumed outside of the licenced area, which will be clearly identified with barricade and signage. No eskies are permitted on the grounds (with exception of being used to weigh in fish during the weigh-in times). Western Cape College is a SMOKE FREE venue. The committee asks for you co-operation in regards to these points, and following Liquor Licencing Laws, to allow us to provide a safe, fun and friendly environment for all. The WEIPA FISHING CLASSIC Committee, together with the Western Cape College endorses the responsible service and consumption of alcohol during this event. PARKING MANAGEMENT Evans Landing Boat Ramp Please note that there is only 50 car parks available. Ensure you park with- in the lines and allow other vehicles to park. Land adjacent to the Evans Landing Boat facility is private property be considered when parking as there is no parking in those areas. RESTRICTION AREAS 2017 COMPETITON RULES Grounds open at 5.00pm on Friday, June 9th June2017. The theme of the Weipa Fishing Classic is FAMILY, FISHING and FUN, encouraging family participation and attendance. CATCH AND WEIGH - OPEN There are 8 eligible species for the open competition: King Salmon, Fingermark, Tusker, Grunter, Mackerel, Coral Trout, Reef Fish (Red Emperor & Nannygai) and Jew Fish only. CATCH AND RELEASE - OPEN There are 3 eligible species for the catch and release open competition: Trevally, Queenfish and Barramundi only. CATCH AND RELEASE BILLFISH - OPEN Sail fish and Marlin. Must have a digital camera with the time and date and be able to produce photos with the fish at the side of the boat with the capture card visible in the photo. Billfish are counted as one point per fish. This is a two day event and highest total score for the two days will be the winner. In the event of a tie, the angler that reached the highest score first wins. All fish must be released in the best possible condition. Under no circumstances will any billfish be weighed. You will be automati- cally disqualified. Photos must be presented by the finish of weigh-in on Sunday. Capture cards will be available after the reading of the rules on Friday night. CATCH AND WEIGH - JUNIOR 4 eligible species for Juniors (12 years and under) competition: King Salmon, Blue Salmon, Bream, and Grunter. Junior ticket holders can only compete in the junior section. Competitors 12 years old and under CAN purchase an open ticket & compete in either open or junior category - but NOT both. CATCH AND RELEASE - JUNIOR There is 2 eligible species for the catch and release junior competition Queenfish and Barramundi. 2017 COMPETITON RULES Commences on Saturday, 10th June, 2017 and Sunday 11th June, 2017 starting at 4.30pm and finishes at approx 5.30pm. Competitors must be in the queue for weigh-in no later than 5.30pm on either day to be eligible for the individual species prizes, and overall species prizes. In the event of a tie the first weighed or sighted by the Weigh Master will be deemed the winner. You MUST present your competition number (KEY RING) when weighing or presenting (photo for Queenfish , Barramundi or Trevally) in your fish. No other species other than the specified target species will be weighed or registered. If competitors are presenting fish that will obviously not be heavier than the current third place weight in that category, they will be encouraged to register their catch at a separate registration point. The intent of this is to reduce the amount of time people have to wait in line and reduce the number of unnecessary weigh ins for the weigh master. No entrant will be able to claim more than one prize for a category as an overall winner. Saturday winners will still be able to win a prize in the same category as an overall winner on Sunday. FISHING TIMES Commence Friday, 9th June, 2017 at 12 midnight (2400 hours) fol- lowing the briefing, reading of the rules and entertainment. 2017 COMPETITON RULES Fishing times commence Friday the NEW RULES 9th June at Midnight (2400 hours).
