In 2014, the National Parkinson Foundation embarked on a strategic planning process to develop an updated vision and plan. In the process, we listened to scientists, patients and families, community leaders and supporters like you. Our communities from across the country told us that it’s important to live a better life today but research for a better tomorrow is the number one reason they are inspired.

As a result, we are committed to increasing funding in this important area in the years ahead. Today we are making a real difference in the lives of people who have Parkinson’s through funding research by the brightest people in medicine and science; by studying the disease and its symptoms so they can be reduced or eliminated; and by developing new treatments and approaches to care that have the greatest impact.

The cornerstone of our work is the Parkinson’s Outcomes Project: the largest clinical study of Parkinson’s ever conducted. Launched in 2009, the project is now tracking 7,700 patients over time, with over 17,500 clinical evaluations at 21 NPF Centers of Excellence across four countries. The project’s goal is to find what works best in the treatment and care of Parkinson’s, with the aim of slowing the impact of the disease.

Our latest research shows that expert care quite literally saves lives. That is why our network of Centers and Chapters is so important—we are disseminating best practices and promoting transparency so that every person living with Parkinson’s can make the best choice of treatments.

The following pages detail research successes from the past year that your support made possible. With your ongoing assistance, we will continue to make life better for people with Parkinson’s on an even bigger scale. We will help people live better lives today and in the future through better care and research.

Together, we can beat this disease. Your support matters and is deeply appreciated.

Warm Regards,

Joyce Oberdorf President and CEO

21 ANNUAL REPORT 2014 JOIN MOVING DAY® A WALK FOR PARKINSON’S!

Taking place in cities across the United States, Moving Day® is your chance to speak up about Parkinson’s disease and move others to take action. It is a movement for change — toward more awareness, more funding, and more understanding of a disease that affects so many of our family and friends. We use movement as a symbol of hope and progress because of its essential role in treating Parkinson’s. So choose to move any way you can by walking, stretching or doing yoga in our signature Movement Pavilion. Every move you make and every penny you raise will bring us closer to beating Parkinson’s!

Find a Moving Day® walk near you at www.npfmovingday.org.
