EXETER LIVESTOCK CENTRE 01392 251261 [email protected] www.kivells.com Tuesday 4th August 4065 SHEEP – 10.30 PM Auctioneers: Russell Steer 07788318701

The best quality of all breeds and ages in very strong demand whilst second and third quality “farming sorts” still looking affordable in this current climate.

515 OLDER MULE & SUFFOLK X MULE EWES

The addition of the Suffolk crosses through the ring at this fixture saw them keenly sought after with a top of £140 for BH Lane of Honiton who had other strong FM sorts at £136. Other Suffolk cross FM ewes at £124 & £122 for Dufty Bros of and £107 for Tom Elliott Ltd of . Best of the NC Mule’s were the first lot sold being 2 crop ewes from Sam Becklake of making £126 followed by Richard & Pete Mann of Widecombe with similar sorts at £120 & £114 whilst Peter Tucker of Cadeleigh sold his two best pens of FM Mules at £110 and Dufty Bros claimed £98 for their two pens. In general then plenty of sheep £78 to £95 and a few lots of broken mouth ewes less than that but above current cull returns.

1623 MULE SHEARLINGS

A shorter offering of Mule shearlings topped at £210 & £185 for tremendously strong sorts from Ross Sizmur Livestock of followed by a fantastically even run of well-marked and farmed shearlings from Maurice Hockridge of Crediton who sold to £160 (x3), £158, £156, £155 & £148 (x2) to average £154 of 222. Similarly Mark & Henry Johnson of Bridport presented with their usual high quality in the form of 211 that topped at £158, £156, £154 etc. and averaged £143, David Rogers of Newton Ferrers saw his powerful sorts fly to £156 and averaged £151 of 75 sold and Emily Pearse of Colebrooke reached £151 and averaged £146 of her 71 well presented shearlings. Elsewhere, Rod Smale of North Molton claimed £150 for his pen, Graham McLeod of Swimbridge made £149 of his run dry ones as well as £145 for lambed shearlings and Brian Webber of Cullompton received £148 for his best pen. Cheviot Mules to £148 for Barry Nicholls of Parracombe and Mashams to £125 for the Steer family of Avonwick. Plenty of straight farming Mules trading from £135 to £148 with lesser sorts from £125 to £135 but looking value on the year. Overall average with everything in was £142 up some £26 on last year’s average and the 2018 sale.

753 SUFFOLK CROSS SHEARLIINGS

A strong trade for all forward being very comparable to the July Fair considering the quality. Top of £161 for a stand out pen from Mark & Henry Johnson who averaged £154 of 67 sold, followed by Peter & Natan Gillard of who between them sold 153 smart sheep to a top of £156 and averaged £148. Similarly Brian & Ian Johnson of Bridport sold their best to £150 and averaged £144 whilst Robert Chanin of Thorverton sold his best to £145 and averaged £144. Majority of sheep trading either side of £140 and only two pens less than £130 gave an impressive average of £141 for everything sold.

291 TEXEL CROSS SHEARLIINGS

The small offering of Texel Mules were well received once again with Mark & Henry Johnson’s run of 110 topping at £158 and averaging £146 followed by Roger Rottenbury of Black Dog selling 20 at £150 and ten at £152, both Richard Cole of Knowstone and Jonathan Northmore of Ivybridge sold their pens at £148 and Brian & Ian Johnson had £147 for their best. Overall average of £146.

84 PURE BRED SHEARLINGS

Pure Texel shearling ewes to £240 & £200 for Paul Quick & family of Zeal Monachurom and £220 & £190 for similar from Mrs CA Smale of North Molton as neighbour Faye Tucker sold Charollais shearlings to £230 & £190 and Richard Philp of Lostwithiel sold Texel x Charollais shearlings to £162 & £148.

323 OTHER SHEARLINGS

Strong Dorset Mules to £165 for a large pen from Sam Diment of Wellington followed by Mark & Henry Johnson with shearlings of the same breed that had lambed selling to £151. Border Leicester crosses from Andrew Toogood of Holcombe Rogus sold to £160 and the best of the Romney’s to £146 (x2) and £144 (x2) for Tim & Amy Heywood of Rackenford.

169 OTHER OLDER EWES

A strong trade here too with a top of £152 for 6T aged Texel x Cheviot Mules from Ray & Sylvia Toms of Cheriton Bishop followed closely by Robert Partridge of Teignmouth with two pens of similar at £150 and Helen Fuller of Simonsbath sold a trio of young Dorset’s well at £148.

154 EWE LAMBS

A super run of strong Suffolk cross tupping lambs from regular consignors to this sale Angela Tarry Smith and nephew Tom, travelled down from Warwickshire with their usual quality which was fiercely bid for by an array of buyers and sold to £130, £123 (x2), £111 & £108 (x2) to average £111.66 of the 99 sold. Venturing down for the first time to this fixture was Gary Atkins of Dulverton who parted with April born Texel x Mule ewe lambs at £91, £86 & £81 as well as BFL x Texel ewe lambs at £82.

163 STOCK RAMS

A tidy entry quality and number wise were a selective but not disappointing trade, reflected by the 68% clearance and overall average of £396.90. It was a colossal CharTex 4T ram that led the way price wise when he made 580gns for Paul Quick & family who had shearlings to 500gns. Suffolk shearlings from Bernard Strout of Launceston sold to 540gns, 520gns & 500gns whilst Charollais shearlings peaked at 530gns, 500gns & 480gns (x2) for Steve & Rachel Lang of Plympton and both Steve Dennis of Bow and J Geake of hit 500gns with their best. Texel’s to 520gns & 500gns for Will Braund of Holsworthy and then too many to mention selling rams of all breeds and crosses from 380-480gns.
