THE ORIGINAL BROADWAY PRODUCTION OF PETER PAN OPENED ON OCTOBER 20, 1954 FOR A LIMITED RUN OF 152 PERFORMANCES. The show starred Mary Martin as Peter Pan and Cyril Richard as Captain Hook, both of whom earned for their performances. NBC telecasts with the same stars in 1955, 1956 and 1960 followed the Broadway production. With music from Mark Charlap and lyrics by Carolyn Leigh, the beloved 1954 musical performance was directed by Jerome Robbins and based on the classic 1904 J.M. Barrie play. Peter Pan ended its Broadway run on February 26, 1955 and has since enjoyed several rebroadcasts of the 1960 telecast and countless revivals onstage.
