Don’t forget PETER PAN the ballet. Or Peter Pan collars . . .

The costume that launched that trend was designed in 1905 for the first American stage production of J.M. Barrie’s play. The collar was unique to this production and by 1907 the papers were buzzing with opinions about it. By the 1920s the collars became standard “What is it you want, Mary? do fare on little girls’ dresses, creating an innocent association that persists to this day. By you want the moon?” the 1930s, the style had become nearly a requirement at weddings—and not for the flower girls. Wedding announcement after wedding announcement in the ’30s and ’40s (even into the ’50s) describe the bride decked out in white satin with a Peter Pan collar. By the ’70s, fashionistas proclaimed a ’50s revival, including—you guessed it—a renewed love for the Peter Pan collar. The ’80s saw the collars incorporated into power suits. The trend went briefly into hibernation in the ’90s, but reemerged in the mid-2000’s.

Now what mere kid’s show can claim to have such an impact and still have importance over a hundred years later? And finally, whoever you are, remember... keep the child in you alive and protected. It’s more important than you can possibly know!!! “Remember, no man is a failure who has friends.” “The secret of genius is to carry the spirit of the child into old age, which means never losing your enthusiasm.” -- Aldous Huxley
