Things to Know about the Kansas City Summit

Equipment • We will provide drum set, congas, vibes, electric , grand piano, bass amp and guitar amp. Please use them rather than bringing your own. This saves time getting bands on and off stage.

• Bring your own cymbals, but we will also have great cymbals for you to use if desired.

• Music stands and chairs are provided. Please bring stools if needed.

Instrument Storage • Space is limited. We have two case storage rooms available for the band that is on stage and the band that is in the warm-up room.

• Please leave your instruments on the bus until it is your time to warm-up. If leaving the instruments on the bus is not possible, they may be stored for a short time at the back of the auditorium so long as no aisles are blocked.

• After your performance, please take instruments back out to your bus if possible.

Band Seating Chart • Please fill out the band seating chart available at: http://www.kansascityjazz.org/images/Kansas_City_Jazz_Summit_Seating_Chart_Song_List.doc.pdf and either email one copy to [email protected] in advance and/or bring three copies for the judges with you. (Five copies if performing on Thursday.)

• The judges will use these sheets to award “Outstanding Musicianship” and “Outstanding Soloist” awards. Please type or print very clearly so names are spelled correctly on the certificates.

• Copies of scores are NOT necessary.

Clinics • We encourage you to come early and watch some of the other groups’ performances. Our clinicians wear microphones during the onstage clinics. This is an outstanding learning experience for both the bands on stage and those listening in the audience.

• There will be a daily off-stage rhythm section clinic down the hall from the auditorium (Room 3632) hosted by college/professional rhythm section. These are encouraged for all students and directors, not just rhythm section.

Lunch • Boxed lunches are available for pre-order ($7 each). • Lunch includes: Sandwich, chips, cookie and a bottle of water. o Sandwich options are: Turkey/cheese, Ham/cheese or Veggie/cheese. o Please email your order specifying number of each sandwich type to [email protected] by April 20.

Dinner • Several fast food chains are nearby the college campus. • The Kansas City Speedway area is just 2 miles west on State Avenue and has the Legends shopping outlet, Cabala’s and many restaurants.

Merchandise • Jazz Summit T-shirts and caps will be sold in the lobby throughout the festival. • Prices range from $15 to $25. Cash, check, debit, credit and venom accepted.

Photography • James Ward Photography will be taking photos throughout your performance. • Photos will be available for viewing at the festival and for purchase online.

BAC Horn Doctor • Bass instruments will be displayed for students to try out. • Some instrument supplies will be available for purchase. • Horn Doctor can also perform minor repairs on site.

Recording • Your performance and on stage clinic will be recorded by the KCKCC Audio Engineering Students. A CD will be given to the director immediately following the performance.

• These recordings can be used for conference audition and award submissions at a later date.

Awards and Judges Comment Sheets • Plaques will be awarded at the end of the day unless time prohibitive in which case they will be mailed.

• Judges comment sheets and individual/group award certificates will be mailed after the festival.
