Birth Pages Birth is a significant rite of passage. It takes an independent, self-determining woman to an extremity that she's unlikely to have previously experienced and it leaves her unalterably changed and with the greatest of responsibilities: it marks the transition from maiden to mother. To me, birth is the ultimate act of natural creativity, but in our industrialised society with its small fragmented families it has become something frightening, something to be endured, something to be saved from by hospitals, doctors and epidurals. While there is undoubtedly a place for these things and they have saved many lives, I believe that, for the vast majority of healthy women experiencing normal pregnancy, labour and birth, http://druidnetwork.org they are disempowering and they remove women from the experience and the spirit of the natural process. Browsing through the pages of The Druid Network wesite I was struck by the amount of wonderful information about death and dying and the absence of anything about Dawn and Pip pregnancy and birth. I have always considered birth and death to be almost like mirror images of the same spiritual and not all end happily.
