Bambang Kunarto M.P dan Ir. Elly Yuniarti Sani M. Si). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui ekstraksi antosianin tangkai parijoto menggunakan berbagai konsentrasi asam asetat dan stabilitas terhadap pH. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan bisa memberikan informasi ilmiah kepada masyarakat terutama mahasiswa dan peneliti selanjutnya tentang penambahan konsentrasi asam asetat pada ekstrak tangkai parijoto dan penstabilan terhadap pH. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) satu faktor 6 perlakuan dan 3 kali ulangan, yaitu perlakuan (P1) perlakuan ekstraksi dengan konsentrasi asam asetat 0%, (P2) perlakuan ekstraksi dengan konsentrasi asam asetat 2%, (P3) perlakuan ekstraksi dengan konsentrasi asam asetat 4%, (P4) perlakuan ekstraksi dengan konsentrasi asam asetat 6%, (P5) perlakuan ekstraksi dengan konsentrasi asam asetat 8% dan (P6) perlakuan ekstraksi dengan konsentrasi asam asetat 10%. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis ragam, dan apabila terdapat perbedaan akibat perlakuan dilanjutkan dengan uji wilayah ganda Duncan (DMRT) pada taraf 0,05%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan konsentrasi asam asetat berpengaruh terhadap rendemen, antosianin, nilai pH, intensitas warna merah (a), intensitas warna kuning (b) dan stabilitas pH namun tidak berpengaruh terhadap tingkat kecerahan (L). Nilai rendemen terbaik dihasilkan pada P5 yaitu 54,97±0,25, nilai antosianin terbaik dihasilkan pada P5 yaitu 70,02±0,31, nilai pH terbaik dihasilkan pada P6 yaitu 2,00±0,00, nilai tingkat kecerahan (L) tertinggi dihasilkan pada P5 yaitu 54,60±0,28, nilai intensitas warna merah (a) terbaik dihasilkan pada P5 yaitu 11,35±0,05, nilai intensitas warna kuning (b) terbaik dihasilkan pada P1 yaitu 3,35±0,15 dan stabilitas dengan pH stabil pada pH 3 dengan menggunakan ekstrak dari perlakuan terbaik (P5) dengan nilai absorbansi 0,18±0,00 v ABSTRACT Bernadette Febrilia Eka K.S, D.111.15.0026. 2019. Entitled “Parijoto Stem Anthocyanin Extract (Medinilla Speciosa L) Using Various Acetic Acid Concentrations and Stability to pH”. (Advisor : Ir. Bambang Kunarto M.P and Ir, Elly Yuniarti Sani M. Si). This study aims to knowing anthocyanin extract from Parijoto stalk using various concentrations of acetic acid and stability to pH. The results of this study are expected to be able to provide scientific information to the public, especially students and subsequent researchers about the addition of acetic acid concentrations to parijoto stalk extracts and stabilization of pH. The experimental design used was Completely Randomized Design (CRD) of one factor 6 treatments and 3 replications, namely treatment (P1) extraction treatment with 0% acetic acid concentration, (P2) extraction treatment with 2% acetic acid concentration, (P3) extraction treatment with 4% acetic acid concentration, (P4) extraction treatment with 6% acetic acid concentration, (P5) extraction treatment with 8% acetic acid concentration and (P6) extraction treatment with 10% acetic acid concentration.The data obtained were analyzed using analysis of variance, and if there were differences due to the treatment followed by the Duncan multiple region test (DMRT) at the level of 0.05%. The results showed that the concentration of acetic acid had an effect on yield, anthocyanin, pH value, intensity of red color (a), intensity of yellow color (b) and pH stability but did not affect the level of brightness (L). The best yield value is produced at P5 that is 54.97 ± 0.25, the best anthocyanin value produced at P5 is 70.02 ± 0.31, the best pH value is generated at P6 which is 2.00 ± 0.00, the value of the brightness level (L ) the highest value is P5, 54.60 ± 0.28, the value of red color intensity (a) is best in P5 is 11.35 ± 0.05, the best value of yellow color (b) is produced in P1 is 3.35 ± .15 and stability with a stable pH at pH 3 using extracts from the best treatment (P5) with absorbance values of 0.18 ± 0.00. vi KATA PENGANTAR Puji syukur penulis panjatkan kehadirat Tuhan Yang Maha esa, yang telah memberikan kesehatan jasmani dan rohani serta petunjuk dan kekuatan kepada penulis sehingga dapat menyelesaikan penulisan skripsi ini dengan judul “Ekstraksi Antosianin Tangkai Parijoto (Medinilla Speciosa L) Menggunakan Berbagai Konsentrasi Asam Asetat dan Stabilitas Terhadap pH”. (MELASTOMATACEAE) ON MT MAKILING, PHILIPPINES J. Peter Quakenbush1 ABSTRACT An investigation into the reproductive biology of Medinilla multiflora Merr. (Melastomataceae) from Mt Makiling, Luzon, is presented. This includes a morphological and distributional exami- nation of the population on the mountain, the documentation of reproductive phenological patterns, a study of the mating system and observations of biotic interactions. Measurements were made of trait variability, reproductive phenology was characterised from field and herbarium observations, stigmatic receptivity was tested by counting pollen germination, insect exclusion and hand-pollination experiments helped determine the mating system and field observations recorded the identity and behaviour of floral visitors. Significant reproductive morphological differences were found between described populations. This identified a need for the recognition of this diversity and further delimitation of the Medinilla multiflora species complex. Although Medinilla multiflora produced flowers and fruit year-round, the population also exhibited cycles of increased reproduction most likely initiated by seasonal low temperatures.

The study was conducted on plant collections of Bali Botanic Garden and the species of Medinilla which is growing wild inside the garden. Morphological data and agronomic potential of each species were showed in order to support its development as ornamental plant. Based on the results of observation of morphological characterization, several species of Medinilla was suitable to be developed as ornamental plant in pots or planted directly in the fi eld. Further explanation of each Medinilla as ornamental plant will be discussed in this paper.     Growing your Medinilla speciosa plant Medinilla speciosa is a relatively recent introduction to Australia. It is a small to medium shrub, growing to around 2 metres. The large, almost succulent leaves are heavily veined and make an attractive contrast in the garden. Of course the outstanding feature of this plant are the flowers. They are formed in large pendulous racemes. The new flowers open a light pink, followed by hot pink berries which ripen to purple. There is always varying colours of flower and fruit on the shrub at any given time, making it a great specimen for any tropical or sub- tropical garden or even for pot culture. When your plant arrives, it is important to get it potted up as soon as possible. I would use a standard 150-200 mm pot and a well drained soil mix, I use Searle’s brand. Add a teaspoon of Osmocote and water in well. Keep your plant in bright filtered light with maybe some early morning sun for a couple of weeks until it starts to re-establish, then slowly move it to more morning sun with protection from hot afternoon sun. Pot on as needed, the roots are quite fast growing. Occasional trimming after the bulk of the flowering has finished will form a more compact plant. Water well during dry periods and feed once or twice a year with a complete fertiliser or dynamic lifter. The only major pests of this plant are chewing insects such as Grasshoppers and Caterpillars, these can simply be crushed or sprayed with the insecticide Carbaryl.

    Storm’s Stork (Craig Robson) BORNEO: SABAH 12 – 26 OCTOBER 2019 LEADER CRAIG ROBSON It was back to basics in 2019, with this two-week tour focussing on the Malaysian province of Sabah. Luck was on our side I think, as we succeeded in seeing an excellent range of specialities and endemics. At Kina- balu Park, we found the crucial trio of Whitehead’s Trogon, Whitehead’s Broadbill and Whitehead’s Spider- hunter, as well as the much-wanted Fruithunter - which made an exceptional showing this year -, and Moun- tain Blackeye. At Sepilok and Gomantong we added Bat Hawk and Black-crowned Pitta, while the Kina- batangan River brought us the likes of Storm’s Stork, Bornean Ground Cuckoo, Wrinkled Hornbill, and Hooded Pitta. Introduction Medinilla (Melastomataceae) is a genus of epiphytic and terrestrial shrubs and climbersof the Paleotropics. It includes about 400 species (Shaw, 1973) distributed in Africa, Madagascar, India, Ceylon, Burma, Indochina,southern China, Thailand, the Malay Peninsula, and eastward to the islands of the Malay Archipelago, New Guinea, northern Australia, Micronesia, and Melanesia. It is by far the largest of all melastome genera occurring in Malesia, a floristic region made up of the Malay Peninsula and islands of the Malay Archipelago extending to New Guinea.

A quick exchange of currency at the airport followed and off we went for a short drive to a centrally located hotel. It was a hot and sticky night, so some of us were happy to go straight to our rooms for a well deserved rest, whereas others, as we found out the next morning, went for a short stroll around the neighbouring shops. Day 2 Friday 06/03/15 We had our breakfast at 7:00 am, and although it sounds like a very civilised hour, our body needed some time to adjust to the eight hour difference between here and home. A mixture of European and Chinese-style dishes were served and so we had a selection of savoury and sweet dishes filling up our plates. We were moving to another hotel today, so after packing luggage in a minibus, we were ready to leave at 8:00 am. Our first stop was at a colony of a Rufous Night Heron and Great Egret, on the periphery of Kota Kinabalu. Both species nested side by side on the trees and gave us good views. A closer view at the complex of stilt houses produced an Asian Glossy Starling, Yellow-vented Bulbul, Tree Sparrow, Cattle Egret and a controversial Striated Heron.

Its fruit has been used by the local community to treat mouth sores, diarrhea, inflammatory, hyperlipidemia, cancer, bacterial infection and nutri- ents for pregnant women. However, the antibacterial activity against Salmonella typhi (S. typhi) and Shigella dysentriae (S. dysentriae) is yet unknown. Thus, the aim of this study was to determine the antibacterial activities of M. speciosa fruit extracts against clinical strain of S. typhi and S. dysentriae. Plant determination and sample preparation were conducted. The fruits of M. speciosa were extracted by gradual maseration using n-hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol as solvents. Phytochemicals were screened by Fransworth method. Antibacterial activity was determined using agar well diffusion. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) values and comparison study of antibacterial activity were determined. The results showed that all of the extracts exhibited antibacterial activities, with the greatest activity shown by the methanol extract. This extract was more effective against S. dysenteriae than S. typhi, as evidenced by the largest inhibition diameter and lowest MIC (25 mg/mL) and MBC (50 mg/mL) values.

The objectives of this ethnobotanical study were to document local knowledge related to the uses of wild edible plants and to provide ethnobotanical data on edible plants of the Batak Karo ethnic in order to contribute to the Indonesian traditional food knowledge. This paper presents part of the ethnobotanical research carried out in Merdeka District, North Sumatra, Indonesia. Methods: Ethnobotanical information was obtained by interviewing 58 Karonese informants in Merdeka (28) and Jaranguda (30). Fifty-five percent of the interviewed people were men. Informants were determined through purposive sampling with the criteria of being married, using plants in the surrounding environment as food, farmers and having access to the forest. We conducted interviews (semi-structured and not closed questionnaire) during the fieldwork. Results: A total of 53 food plants belonging to 27 families were documented. Thirty percent of the collected species are wild and used for food. Several of these edible plants are also referred as medicinal plants for local people so they could be classified as food medicines. Begonia laruei M.
