STARFLEET is the fan organization with something for everyone. Members the world over are united in appreciation of the human adventure of STAR TREK. Hundreds of chapters spread around the planet link members into local fandom and the central organization.

Annual membership in STARFLEET begins with a package containing a membership card, membership certificate, handbook, memo pad, and a listing of chapters throughout the world, including the one nearest you! Brian joined STARFLEET in 1988 and put his interests in science and medicine and his talent of writing to good duty writing articles for the Avenger’s Medical Department newsletter. Brian credits Star Trek and STARFIEET with his choice of careers, "Star Trek helped my develop my career interest in medicine and science.... I might not have taken an interest in medicine had I not seen "Bones" perform his handiwork or written my articles for the newsletter." In his community, Brian volunteers at this local hospital, with the local DARE chapter, his church’s youth group and the Boy Scouts of America-- including earning the Eagle Scout rank. When he starts classes this fall, Brian will be a biology major, possibly with a minor in biochemistry or biophysics. After those four years of college, he hopes to attend medical school. This STARFLEET member has been active and supportive of his chapter in Region 1 for over five years. Anyone who has the position of First Officer of a chapter learns how to budget time between STARFLEET, job/school and real life. Commander Daniel Stover also finds plenty of time to help community service groups such as Junior Civitans and the Boy Scouts. He has won several science fair awards and represented his school at the 1993 Mountaineer’s Boys’ Daniel State, a fine honor. Now Daniel is spreading his talents on the campus of West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV. He plans to major in Biology which is plenty for a college Stover program. Not enough for Daniel... he is also planning a second full major in Medical Technology or Aerospace Engineering. With those degrees in hand he plans to submit his application to NASA for a position as a Mission Specialist. While Captain Kim Abbot of the USS Chronos may mourn her loss of a First Officer, this may be the start of the first STARFLEET member on a shuttle mission. Daniel is this year’s winner of the Jimmy Doohan/Montgomery Scott Aerospace Engineering Scholarship, and rightfully so!
