11.5.20/12.5.20 History and Art - Design like a Greek project Aeschylus has been asked by the local Ecclesia to design a new temple for the town of . Aeschylus, however, has spent a bit too much time watching Greek plays at the local amphitheatre and he is not ready to present a temple design for Wednesday. Can you travel back in time and help him before he gets fired?

Feel free to use the research you did about Greek gods and goddesses from Tuesday 31st March.

1. First, you will need to read the document about Delphi and temples so that you can become an expert.

2. Next, you will need to think about your temple design and make some notes.

a. Who do you want to build a temple for? It could be , or any other Greek god or goddess you think deserves a temple at Delphi. b. Is it going to be a regular temple or a Tholos? c. What decorations will you include?

3. After that, to help communicate your ideas to Aeschylus you will need to draw what your temple will look like. Draw the front of your temple and make sure to label important features. You will need to think about; a. How will you make it clear that this temple belongs to your chosen god/goddess? b. Are there any symbols connected to your god/goddess you can include in the decoration? c. What colours will you use? d. What materials will it be made from? Challenge task: After you have completed your design you could help Aeschylus by preparing a short presentation called a pitch. This is where you explain your ideas are and why they are so good, we need to persuade the Ecclesia that they should build your temple design and not someone else’s.

Good luck!
