  • Au 81 Vechicl3e Body Engg Notes
UNIT 1- CAR BODY DETAILS Cars can come in a large variety of different body styles . Some are still in production, while others are of historical interest only. These styles are largely (though not completely) independent of a car's classification in terms of price, size and intended broad market; the same car model might be available in multiple body styles (or model ranges ). For some of the following terms, especially relating to four-wheel drive / SUV models and minivan / MPV models, the distinction between body style and classification is particularly narrow. Please note that while each body style has a historical and technical definition, in common usage such definitions are often blurred. Over time, the common usage of each term evolves. For example, people often call 4-passenger sport coupés a "sports car", while purists will insist that a sports car by definition is limited to two-place vehicles. Body work In automotive engineering , the bodywork of an automobile is the structure which protects: ⦁ The occupants ⦁ Any other payload ⦁ The mechanical components. In vehicles with a separate frame or chassis , the term bodywork is normally applied to only the non-structural panels, including doors and other movable panels, but it may also be used more generally to include the structural components which support the mechanical components. Construction There are three main types of automotive bodywork: ⦁ The first automobiles were designs adapted in large part from horse-drawn carriages, and had body-on-frame construction with a wooden frame and wooden or metal body panels. Wooden-framed motor vehicles remain in production to this day, with many of the cars made by the Morgan Motor Company still having wooden structures underlying their bodywork.

Finally, we would like to thank our peer students and all the people close to us for your support during our years of university studies. Without you, this would not have been possible. ABSTRACT This master thesis is addressing the case of Saab Automobile AB, creating a full historical reconstruction using primarily extensive quotes derived from semi-structured interviews with former Saab employees and other relevant actors. The aim is to depict and discuss the roots behind the company’s historically unique capabilities and its trajectory towards failure, together with the influence of General Motors’ ownership in this detrimental process.

  • Samhällsförändring På Väg Perspektiv På Den Svenska Bilismens Utveckling Mellan 1950 Och 2007
Samhällsförändring på väg Perspektiv på den svenska bilismens utveckling mellan 1950 och 2007 Eva Lindgren Institutionen för ekonomisk historia 901 87 Umeå Umeå 2010 Avhandlingen ingår i serien Umeå Studies of Economic History Copyright©Eva Lindgren ISBN: 978-91-7264-988-0 ISSN: 0347-254-X Tryck: Print & Media Umeå, Sverige 2010 Abstract The aim of this thesis is to give a perspective on the development of the Swedish automobility, and the automobility’s role for economic historical development between 1950 and 2007 by studying the interaction between the diffusion of the private car on national and regional level, the households’ preferences and the government’s regulations of car ownership. The first paper compares car diffusion in Norway and Sweden in order to find explanations for the national and regional patterns. We ask whether the Norwegian time lag and the diffusion process can be explained with national differences in income, institutions, infrastructure and population settlements; or if regional differences in income and population density have affected the outcome? The conclusion is that car diffusion in Norway and Sweden displays two sides of the same coin; the national levels converged, but the process did not follow the same regional pattern. The second paper examines whether the diffusion of private cars followed the over-all socio-economic and geographical changes in Sweden from 1960 to 1975. In particular, it asks if ownership per capita followed changes in incomes or changes in population density (urbanisation). The analysis is based on Swedish parish-scale census material that includes all car owners for the years 1960, 1970 and 1975.

  • 92-96 Fakta, Page 1

Ludvigsen papers, 1905-2011. Archival Collection 26 Title: Karl E. Ludvigsen papers, 1905-2011. Creator: Ludvigsen, Karl E. Call Number: Archival Collection 26 Quantity: 931 cubic feet (514 flat archival boxes, 98 clamshell boxes, 29 filing cabinets, 18 record center cartons, 15 glass plate boxes, 8 oversize boxes). Abstract: The Karl E. Ludvigsen papers 1905-2011 contain his extensive research files, photographs, and prints on a wide variety of automotive topics. The papers reflect the complexity and breadth of Ludvigsen’s work as an author, researcher, and consultant. Approximately 70,000 of his photographic negatives have been digitized and are available on the Revs Digital Library. Thousands of undigitized prints in several series are also available but the copyright of the prints is unclear for many of the images. Ludvigsen’s research files are divided into two series: Subjects and Marques, each focusing on technical aspects, and were clipped or copied from newspapers, trade publications, and manufacturer’s literature, but there are occasional blueprints and photographs. Some of the files include Ludvigsen’s consulting research and the records of his Ludvigsen Library. Scope and Content Note: The Karl E. Ludvigsen papers are organized into eight series. The series largely reflects Ludvigsen’s original filing structure for paper and photographic materials. Series 1. Subject Files [11 filing cabinets and 18 record center cartons] The Subject Files contain documents compiled by Ludvigsen on a wide variety of automotive topics, and are in general alphabetical order.

  • SAAB FORMULA JUNIOR a Unique Chapter in Swedish Motoring History
SAAB FORMULA JUNIOR A unique chapter in Swedish motoring history. Compiled by Nils-Gunnar Svensson and Ulf G Andersson. Translation by Gunnar K Johansson and Ray Beaufoy. A Swedish formula Junior racing car, manufactured in one of the country’s automotive plants was something completely unique in 1960 and unprecedented in Swedish motoring history. From un-published photos, Saab documents, newspapers articles of the time and, above all, discussions with as many people as possible that were involved in this project we have strived to create an accurate account of the historical events related to Saabs two Formula Junior cars manufactured in Trollhättan. THE DEVELOPMENT WORK The development of SAAB’s Formula Junior was a direct follow up of the competition activities once initiated by Rolf Mellde (head of the test department) with the Saab 92. Without successful competition activities started by Mellde and Landbü in 1949 and resultant competition success, the development and testing of a completely new car in such a concentrated and effective manner would not have been possible. Through competition success with the Saab 92 and 93, Saab´s management began to understand that there was high PR -value to be gained by using competition successes in company advertisements and sales brochures. It was also obvious that Rolf Mellde wholeheartedly gave support in promoting the advantages of front wheel drive. During the entire 1950´s, Rolf Mellde played a major part in competition activities and, as we now know, he also achieved considerable success. 1 The development of the Sonett 1 was further step in that direction, but unfortunately, due to changes in classification and tuning requirements, there was only a short future for this type of pure racing sports car.

ENRESO WORLD - ILab Different Car Engine Types Istas René Graduated in Automotive Technologies 1-1-2019 1 4 - STROKE ENGINE A four-stroke (also four-cycle) engine is an internal combustion (IC) engine in which the piston completes four separate strokes while turning the crankshaft. A stroke refers to the full travel of the piston along the cylinder, in either direction. The four separate strokes are termed: 1. Intake: Also known as induction or suction. This stroke of the piston begins at top dead center (T.D.C.) and ends at bottom dead center (B.D.C.). In this stroke the intake valve must be in the open position while the piston pulls an air-fuel mixture into the cylinder by producing vacuum pressure into the cylinder through its downward motion. The piston is moving down as air is being sucked in by the downward motion against the piston. 2. Compression: This stroke begins at B.D.C, or just at the end of the suction stroke, and ends at T.D.C. In this stroke the piston compresses the air-fuel mixture in preparation for ignition during the power stroke (below). Both the intake and exhaust valves are closed during this stage. 3. Combustion: Also known as power or ignition. This is the start of the second revolution of the four stroke cycle. At this point the crankshaft has completed a full 360 degree revolution. While the piston is at T.D.C. (the end of the compression stroke) the compressed air-fuel mixture is ignited by a spark plug (in a gasoline engine) or by heat generated by high compression (diesel engines), forcefully returning the piston to B.D.C.
