Rik then gave a detailed report of all that had happened since the June conference. The following were among the main points: 1. Rik introduced the four other Council Members; Christiane Schwarzweller, Martin Zweifel, Gottfried Caspar, and Michael Howard. He also introduced Tanja Hietsch, who is Seija Zim- mermann’s assistant, but who in recent months had done much of the administrative work for our Section. 2. Rik gave an update on the revising of the contact list of Section members worldwide, emphasizing that a final letter will go out shortly in an effort to have everyone who regards themselves an active member of the Art Section to confirm their contact info or provide an update. 3. While a year ago the Art Section had no budget, Rik was Rik ten Cate Opening the Conference at the Goetheanum pleased to report that we have had a modest but adequate budget since June and a comparable budget of E 60,000 is in place for Significant steps had already been taken at our June 2011 meet- 2012. Rik had been urged to form ence, and outlined the different ways they would be addressed: a Coordinating Council to work with him in attending to the essential business of the Art Section. This included the forming of the two Art Section conferences that traditionally took place in November and May/June of each year. Most particularly, Rik and the Coordinating Council were charged with facilitating the process of finding new organizational forms, and in particular a new organ of leadership, that would serve the future develop- ment of the Art Section. On the afternoon of Thursday, November 24th,before the confer- ence proper began, two First Class Lessons were held in which the Fourth Recapitulation Lesson and Lesson Five were read in German, followed by an open conversation. Through this, Pieter drew our questions intended to guide our deliberations about the future attention to the incredible freedom given to the architect today of the Art Section: through the technological developments of recent decades that no longer limit architecture to the box. But all this freedom begs the question: Are we any closer to architecture truly serving human life and human development? More and more buildings draw upon the full spec- trum of the language of form and have an organic, free-form quality to them, but what is needed for this freedom of form to more truly serve the hu- man being? Pieter’s main point was that we have a long way to go in developing the capacities for a living architecture, for this depends on our de- veloping to a much greater extent the capacity for living thinking. Pieter concluded by showing some examples of his students’ work to indicate how the schooling of architects must strengthen the middle Coop Himmelblau BMW Welt Building Munich, 2003-2007, view from crosswalk realm, where living, pictorial thinking can mediate between abstract thinking, on the one hand, and the 1. • Valentin Tomberg, Rudolf Steiner
[The following article was published in the Sophia Foundation newsletter – Starlight, vol. 6, no. 2 (Fall 2006), pp. 5-8] RUDOLF STEINER, VALENTIN TOMBERG, AND THE RETURN OF CHRIST IN THE ETHERIC Robert Powell In his Introduction to Valentin Tomberg’s book Christ and Sophia, Christopher Bamford writes in a most beautiful way concerning Valentin Tomberg as a Platonist. Without developing this important theme further, I would like to add something with respect to certain remarks made by Christopher Bamford in the following quote from his Introduction: Tomberg was, in fact, one of the first anthroposophists to take up Christ’s reappearance in the etheric, this most precious fruit of Rudolf Steiner’s spiritual research. Although Tomberg had alluded to Christ’s etheric return previously in two (1931) articles reprinted in Early Articles (“The Deepening of Conscience, which Results in Etheric Vision” and “Suffering as a Preparation for Etheric Vision”), in this lecture course he went into it in great detail. Interestingly, two pages of the typescript from lecture 6 entered circulation with the heading “From a lecture by Rudolf Steiner, Stockholm, 1910.” As such, until the mistake was realized, people quoted from them as if they were by Steiner himself.1 What is referred to here? Firstly: Thirteen years after Rudolf Steiner’s death, Valentin Tomberg spoke in detail about the return of Christ in the etheric realm in his lectures “The Four Sacrifices of Christ and the Return of Christ in the Etheric” now published in English translation as an Appendix to Christ and Sophia. These lectures were held in Rotterdam, Holland, in 1938.

  • Impulse-View in the Anthroposophical Stream at Easter 2018
Impulse-View in the anthroposophical stream at Easter 2018 It is certainly no coincidence, but a special mental hint, that in a moment of dramatic disintegration and opening in the history of anthroposophical society at Easter 2018 (1), the clear language of perhaps the most significant unbridled impulse of anthroposophical history suddenly appears: the unfolding of the youth-mystic Impulses of a concrete spiritual "new relationship between man and man and to all beings" - in the form of the recently published biography "Wilhelm Rath" by Benjamin Schmidt (2). 1. The call for a "new relationship between man and man and all beings" In it and with him, the stream of concrete esoteric-fraternal working is illuminated, with the focus of the "shared experience of the spirit," as Rudolf Steiner described in the programmatic memorandum for the young "Free Anthroposophical Society" in 1923 (3), and forms of community formation of the mutual Support for "the perfection of the individual" (Steiner also included in the "Memorandum" annexed). From this current "reputation" a short, fragmentary impulse to future possibilities of the Anthroposophical stream should be dared. To begin with, a look at the emerging new possibilities of future development, which today is discussed socially and thus provides an external context for looking at calls for the future in the anthroposophical context of the task, may be thrown out. In the following, essential aspects of the present and future calls and possibilities that are spiritually indicative from an anthroposophical perspective may be illuminated. Finally, there are a few concrete suggestions that may arise from the previous one.

“Spiritual Streams in Romania” (A central part of the later written text to the lecture from Friday 24th February 2017 in Bucaresti, Romania) Dirk Kruse This weekend we want to look on the cosmic laws and forces into the social processes. In our lecture now we want to connect it with the actuality of the Romanian spirit. Anthroposophical seen, out of the zodiacal and planetarian we find the background for any science. We can say the mental or astral soul-reality of existence is the planetarian reality and the pure spiritual reality of existence is the zodiac- and fixed star reality. The stars which we see are only the little physical part of it! Our soul- and spiritual realities are the cosmic realities! So we can understand why we come to the core of individual- and social life with such theme. A main esoteric order in all individual and social impulses on earth can be seen in spiritual streams, that live in this inner realities, in this cosmic world. This spiritual streams are on earth connected with high developed initiated man, which have gone through so much development and sacrifice that they ripened to become so-called Masters or Bodhisattvas. And here we should not forget that as part of the evolution we have also evil antistreams, as challenging forces that help us at last to overcome them and have as result a higher ripeness, which Steiner described the first time in history in a very exact and differentiated form. About them we partly worked in our training-course at the fifth meeting when the issue was conflict- management and dealing with obstacles and the evil.

  • The Exclusions of 1935 and the Albert Steffen Foundation
The Exclusions of 1935 and the Albert Steffen Foundation A statement on the rehabilitation initiative as well as on the repeal of the decisions of 1935 at the General Assembly 2018 of the Albert Steffen Foundation had appeared in "Anthroposophy worldwide" 7-8/18 under the title "Rehabilitation – postscript and preview". This will be discussed below. Preliminary Remark Only those who were of the opinion that these exclusions were unjustified in 1935 could have ap- proved the reversal of the resolution by which Ita Wegman and Elisabeth Vreede had been excluded from the Executive Council of the General Anthroposophical Society in 1935 and were separated from their activities as Section Heads of the School of Spiritual Science, as requested by the General Assem- bly in 2018. Anyone who was or is of the opposite opinion had, of course, to vote against the reversal or at least to abstain. Majorities, even overwhelming ones, do not guarantee that decisions taken in this way are necessarily right or wrong; this applies to the resolution of 1935 as well as to the reversal of this resolution at the General Assembly in 2018. As a reminder: In 1935, not only Ita Wegman and Elisabeth Vreede were excluded from the Executive Council and from their other activities in their Sections (Part I of the former proposal) by a single vote, but six other individuals1 specifically mentioned by name (Part II) as well as the Dutch and English Na- tional Societies were also excluded from the General Anthroposophical Society (Part III). Parts II and III were already abolished unanimously at the 1948 General Assembly, i.e.

REFLECTIONS on THE INDIVIDUAL ENCOUNTER and the PATH to COMMUNITY ~ AGM & conference at Monadnock Waldorf School in Keene, NH October 11-13, 2013 From Mary Lee Plumb-Menjes, Austin, TX I met Anthroposophy right after I left home at 18; I became a member of the Society a few years later to keep up my connections to the vibrant moments I’d experienced in certain communities based on Steiner’s work (Camphill Village and Emerson College). As I became a carrier, I noted how often folks who clearly valued the warmth and values of our Waldorf school community and studies felt no impulse to join the larger Anthroposophical Society and sometimes how Society meetings were heavy on truths revealed by Anthroposophy and lacking much life or lively encounter with individuals. Thus, it was truly heartening to attend this conference/AGM and experience our capacities to engage in “The Individual Encounter and the Path to Community,” the theme of the gathering. Torin Finser opened our gathering Friday evening noting that spiritual beings are all around us, eager to work with us, waiting for our questions forged in fire and ice We need to feel gratitude for being allowed (ref.
