On May 1 in Sao Paulo, Omar Fontana, president of Transbrasil airline, told reporters that the Vasp and Transbrasil air carriers had completed an agreement to share 55% of the market. Fontana said the two companies are equally prepared to compete with the nation's largest airline for additional market share. The agreement, according to Fontana, will represent savings of US$5 million per month for the two companies. Savings could increase to US$10 million a month within the next three months, he said. Fontana asserted that "all phases of production are to be conducted with cost reduction in mind." (Basic data from Agence France-Presse, 05/01/92)
