The Satanic Rituals Anton Szandor Lavey
The Rites of Lucifer On the altar of the Devil up is down, pleasure is pain, darkness is light, slavery is freedom, and madness is sanity. The Satanic ritual cham- ber is die ideal setting for the entertainment of unspoken thoughts or a veritable palace of perversity. Now one of the Devil's most devoted disciples gives a detailed account of all the traditional Satanic rituals. Here are the actual texts of such forbidden rites as the Black Mass and Satanic Baptisms for both adults and children. The Case of J Effrey Dah M Er
5 THE CASE OF J EFFREY DAH M ER OVERVIEW This chapter specifically addresses the highly publicized case of Jeffrey Dahmer, a serial lust murderer responsible for the death and mutilation of 17 young men. In an attempt to create a working profile, several factors linked to Dahmer's social and family history, sexuality, education, employment status, fantasy system, and criminality are discussed. In Chapter 6, this developmental portrait is linked to the three principal theoretical models discussed within Chapters 3 and 4. Specifically, Chapter 6 explores what insights the motivational, trauma control, and integrative paraphilic typologies offer in their accounts of Jeffrey Dahmer's criminal behavior. This exercise is particularly useful since the goal is to ascertain the extent to which each conceptual schema advances our understanding of serial sexual homicide (i.e., lust murder) and those persons who commit this act. This chapter is divided into two sections. First, several methodological issues germane to our overall assessment of Jeffrey Dahmer are delineated. Given that our approach emphasizes the case study investigatory strategy, a number of remarks relevant to this line of analysis are warranted. Some observations regard- ing the elements of the case study method are specified, several justifications for the selection of a qualitative approach are outlined, and a description of the data is supplied. Second, both historical and biographical information concerning Dahmer's life is provided. These data are sequenced chronologically, commencing with his early childhood development and moving all the way to his violent fantasies, criminal conduct, and paraphilic behaviors. Profiling his case in this way allows 67 68 THE PSYCHOLOGY OF LUST MURDER the reader to assess the merits of the general organization and facilitates a more comprehensive and seamless evaluation within the application work undertaken in Chapter 6. -

Shadowrun: Hong Kong
SHADOWRUN HONG KONG MEL ODOM BASED ON A STORY BY HAREBRAINED SCHEMES PROLOGUE RAYMOND BLACK The Redmond Barrens Seattle United Canadian and American States 2044 I’ll never forget the night I met Raymond Black, mostly because I’d believed Duncan was going to die and leave me all alone. Raymond Black changed that. He changed a lot of things. Me and Duncan, we’d been alone for a long time. I was a couple years older than him, so I could remember back farther than he could, but every time I did, all I could recall were the foster homes I got bounced out of regularly. The longest I’d ever stayed in one was with the Croydon family for two years. They taught me how to pick pockets, hotwire a car, fight with a blade, and pick a lock. When I turned thirteen, I used those skills to get away from them and escape into the shadows. A few months after that, I found Duncan Wu living on dumpster food in an alley. He hadn’t run away from his foster home to find something better. He’d run for his life. His foster parents had set up a deal to sell him and the three other kids to a sex slave ring. He was the only one who’d gotten away. Part of me wanted to leave him there, but I couldn’t because I knew from the shape he was in, starving and covered in sores, he wouldn’t make it on his own. So I’d taken him with me, fed him, sheltered him, and gotten him as healthy as we could be under the circumstances. -

Suspense, Mystery, Horror and Thriller Fiction FEBRUARY 2015 WHO'S INSIDE JENNIFER HILLIER SOPHIE LITTLEFIELD DENNIS PALUMBO MATTHEW REILLY PHILLIP MARGOLIN MICHAEL CONNELLY JAMES ROLLINS & REBECCA CANTRELL From the Editor CREDITS John Raab The first letter from the editor in the New Year President & Chairman is always the toughest to write. I didn’t know if I should talk about trends coming up or about new Shannon Raab Creative Director releases from some great authors, so I decided to go a different route. Romaine Reeves CFO I found myself thinking about authors who write series novels, and how I would like to see Amy Lignor some of them take a different direction this year— Editor maybe not write about their main character, but Jim Thomsen step outside of the “norm” in order to give the Copy Editor reader a fresh story. I’ve said for several years that Contributors while I love to read series novels, I think my real passion is the standalone. There is Mark P. Sadler something in having to sit down in front of a computer, looking at a blank canvas, and Susan Santangelo having to create a tale from scratch. With a series character, half of the story has already DJ Weaver CK Webb been written; the author just needs to fill in the blanks with the plot. Kiki Howell I’ve talked with several authors and a lot of them seem handcuffed by publishing Kaye George Weldon Burge issues or the popularity of their character that they simply can’t step outside that formula. -

America's Sweethearts
America's Sweethearts Dir: Joe Roth, 2001 A review by A. Mary Murphy, Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada The whole idea of America's Sweethearts is to have a little fun with the industry of film stars' lives, and the fact that their marriages, breakdowns and breakups have become an entertainment medium of their own. Further to this is the fact that not only does the consumer buy the product of stars' off-screen lives, but so (at times) do stars. Of course, part of the fun of this film is that it just happens to be populated by some very large careers, which makes for good box-office (and ironic) appeal -- with Julia Roberts, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Billy Crystal, and John Cusack as the front-line members of the cast. Everyone should be thoroughly convinced by now that Julia Roberts was born to play romantic comedy. Those liquid eyes and that blazing smile go directly to an audience's collective heart, and make it leap or ache as required. On the occasions when she steps out of her generic specialty, it's just an embarrassment (for example Mary Reilly [1996]); and reminds us that she is not a great dramatic actor -- the Academy Award notwithstanding. However, when Roberts stays within her limits, and does what she is undeniably talented at doing, there's nobody better. She's not the only big-name actress in America's Sweethearts, so she doesn't get all the screen time she's accustomed to, but she makes good use of her allotment. However, there are a couple of problems with the premise for her character, Kiki.
