 Oppositional Defiant Disorder  Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder  Conduct Disorder  Substance Abuse Disorders  Disruptive Impulse Control Disorder  Mood Disorders  Research has found that screen exposure increases the probability of ADHD  Several peer reviewed studies have linked internet usage to increased anxiety and depression  Some of the most shocking research is that some kids can get psychotic like symptoms from gaming wherein the game blurs reality for the player  Teenage shooters?  Mylenation- Not yet complete in the frontal cortex, which compromises executive functioning thus inhibiting impulse control and rational thought

 Technology may stagnate frontal cortex development  Delayed versus Instant Gratification  Frustration Tolerance Several brain imaging studies have shown gray matter shrinkage or loss of tissue Gray Matter is defined by volume for Merriam-Webster as: neural tissue especially of the Internet/gam brain and spinal cord that contains nerve-cell bodies as ing addicts. well as nerve fibers and has a brownish-gray color  During his ten years of clinical research Dr. Kardaras discovered while working with teenagers that they had found a new form of escape…a new drug so to speak…in immersive screens. For these kids the seductive and addictive pull of the screen has a stronger gravitational pull than real life experiences. (Excerpt from Dr. Kadaras book titled Glow Kids published August 2016)  The fight or flight response in nature is brief because when the dog starts to chase you your heart races and your adrenaline surges…but as soon as the threat is gone your adrenaline levels decrease and your heart slows down.

 With video games, the kid may sit for hours of adrenal elevated fight or flight levels. Dr. Kardaras  Why Today’s Super Connected Kids are Growing up Less Rebellious, More Tolerant, Less Happy and Completely Unprepared for Adulthood

Less in- More Screen Person More Time Social loneliness Interaction Teens with a positive of self who have internalized positive modeling about sexual values, gender roles, and developmentally appropriate sexual behavior are somewhat inoculated from the impact of the media, including the Internet, which so often portrays sex in an extremely stereotypical manner.  Live webcam sex shows have begun to replace Internet . The money does not come from subscriptions or pay-per-view, but from tips and electronic tokens viewers give to allow them to interact with the performers. This title was taken from an article in the Huffington Post: “Robot Are The Future, And The Future Is Coming (NSFW)” http://jobs.aol.com/articles/2015/05/01/robots-are-going-to-steal- our-jobs/?SiteID=cbaolcompromotion_apr_110&icid=maing- grid7|main5|dl12|sec3_lnk3%26pLid%3D-149235122 We’ve all seen them…Kids hypnotically staring at glowing screens in restaurants, playgrounds and even while sitting with friends.

 One of the most important functions of your unconscious is the processing of data perceived through your eyes.

 Human behavior is a product of an endless stream of perceptions, feelings and thoughts at both the conscious and unconscious levels.

 Some estimates suggest we are conscious of only 5% of our cognitive function. The other 95% goes beyond our awareness, yet exerts a huge influence on our lives.

Is There A Kodak Moment In Human Sexual Development?

The Pairing of Two Random Variables Is it today’s new ?

 A study analyzed 50 films randomly selected from the 250 top grossing pornographic films in 2007 (Bridges, et. al, 2010) conducted an assessment of 304 scenes and found:

› 3375 different acts of verbal and physical abuse, which averaged to 11.5 acts of aggression per scene.

› Aggression was responded to with either expressions of pleasure or neutrality 95.1% of the time.

› Men were four times less likely to express pleasure when aggressed upon than a woman.

› Positive sexual behavior comprised just 9.9% of all actions. According to Covenant Eyes, 88% of pornography scenes contain acts of physical aggression and 49% contain verbal aggression The Internet is Powered by the “Triple A Engine” Of Access Affordability and Anonymity  Porn stimulates the hedonic highway or median forebrain. Dopamine is released when sexually aroused.  Porn causes Dopamine to spike.  Dramatic increase in Dopamine is a drug like high.  Porn increases other “feel good” neurochemicals like Adrenaline, Endorphins, and Seratonin.  With an overload, porn reduces the bodies ability to produce and effectively release these chemicals under normal .  YouTube/File Sharing Programs/Internet Search  Nintendo/Xbox/Gaming Systems  Ipad/Ipod & other tablets  Cellphones  Laptops/ File Sharing Programs  Home computers  OnDemand Television  Smart TV’s  Traditional Outlets  Roku/Firestick/Chromecast  Affordable  Anonymous  Accessible  Escape  Fantasy  Stimulating  Something for Everyone  The Online Disinhibition Effect  Neurological Effects IQ EQ RQ

Flynn Effect  The most popular is the Juvenile Assessment Protocol-II (JSOAP-II) the J-SOAP-II is not an actuarial scale. The J-SOAP-II is an empirically informed guide for the systematic review and assessment of a uniform set of items that may reflect increased risk to reoffend.  Estimate of Risk of Adolescent Sexual Offense Recidivism "there's currently no empirical support regarding the use of this measure to predict sexual recidivism for adolescents.“  Evaluators should recognize that juvenile risk assessments should be updated every six months to account a change in any of the risk factors.  The Child Pornography Offender Risk Tool (CPORT) is a guideline developed by Dr. Michael Seto to estimate one’s risk to reoffend by accessing child pornography. Recent studies have found that factors associated with sexual re-offense include: (1) Age 35 or younger at index offense; (2) Any prior criminal history; (3) Any prior contact sexual offense history; (4) Any conditional release failure; (5) Admission of pedophilic or hebephillic sexual interests; (6) greater content featuring boys as compared to girls in child pornography viewed/possessed; (7) greater content featuring boys as compared to girls in other child materials. The factors have accordingly been compiled to form the Child Pornography Offender Risk Tool (C-PORT). Research has indicated that though preliminary risk percentages have been generated using this tool, these percentages have not yet been cross-validated or demonstrated to have stability across samples to allow for numerical risk estimates applied to an .

 Is Sexting Child Pornography?  Evaluators should use multiple methods of data collection to form opinions regarding risk. Methods could include clinical interviews, psychological tests, behavior observation, medical examinations and reviews of previous case records and reports.  Not just an interview!  The average recidivism rate for untreated juvenile sex offenders vs treated juvenile sex offenders is: (Caldwell 2010) n=11,219 60 month follow-up 7%  (Keitzel & Carbonel 2006) Meta-analysis of 33 studies; 7.37 re-offense after 5 year follow-up for those who completed treatment and 19% recidivism for those who had not  The recidivism range for General Juvenile Offenses is much broader depending on crime category.  The Abel Screening Assessment-for boys  The Multidimensional Inventory of Development, Sex and Aggression  Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-Adolescent  The Millon Adolescent Clinical Inventory  The Test of General Reasoning Ability  The Test of Variables of Attention  IQ Testing

Pedophilia is defined as the fantasy or act of sexual activity with children who are generally age 12 to13 years or younger. Pedophiles are usually men and can be attracted to either or both sexes.  Hebephilia is the sexual preference for early adolescent children (those roughly ages 11 to 14). Some evidence suggests that hebephilia is a distinct and discernable erotic age preference.  Attachment Deficits: Best predictor of sexual offending and sexual recidivism?  A semi-structured interview and rating scale to assess the functioning of juvenile offenders ages 9 -18 in three important areas; a. Risk for Dangerousness- History of violence, aggression, criminality and b. Sophistication/Maturity- Autonomy, cognition and emotional maturity c. Treatment Amenability – Degree and type of psychopathology, responsibility, motivation to change, and tolerance of others Interpersonal Experience  Has adolescence extended into early adulthood?

 As we become more emotionally disconnected from healthy sexuality, do we become more aggressive? Particularly adolescent males?

 How does technology contribute to our existential disconnectedness?

 Is technology creating a new wave of unhealthy relationships and sexuality?

 How is this new era of impacting relationships, attachments and sexual aggression?

 All of this is creating self-doubt of what it means to be human

 The need for increased study in cyberpsychology which encompasses all psychological phenomena associated with emerging technology. Cyber comes from the word cybernetics, the study of control and communication; psychology that is the study of the mind and behavior.

 Where do we go from here when much of what we have talked about today is protected by the First Amendment? Increased Interpersonal Disconnectedness Versus Increased Punitive Consequences
