Application for OGAE International Bureau Positions – Board Member
Hello
My name is Marcus Davey. I am from Sydney, Australia and I believe that I would be a valuable asset to the OGAE International Board if I was elected.
I have been interested in Eurovision for many years. I would call up my best friend during the competition and we would talk about the show whilst it was on Television. One year I went to his house (in another state of Australia) and spent the weekend at his house watching the Competition. We watched the competition on the SBS broadcast over the three nights. It was amazing. We vowed at that point we would go to the competition live.
In 2013 I was lucky enough to be able to go to my first ever Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo, Sweden. It was an experience that I will never forget. I was able to connect like-minded fans that loved the competition like I did. It was unfortunate that year, my best friend, wasn’t able to come. When Emmelie won with her fantastic song, I messaged my friend back in Australia (at that time it was very early in the morning) and said we were going to Denmark. That year I became part of OGAE ROW (the Facebook page) and really got involved in the Fan experience. Through Roy, I was able to really feel like a real part of the Eurovision Experience.
During the next year we planned our trip and when we all finally arrived in Copenhagen it was a truly amazing experience. To share the competition with my friends and other fans was a great experience. Towards the end of the competition week I asked Roy if I could become “more involved” in the Facebook page and OGAE ROW. I really enjoyed being able to deal directly with Roy and assist the management of the club. My role has been administrator. When ESCcovers was launched last year I was one of the first to be a editor / fan relations. Today I still enjoy working on both the Facebook page and ESCcovers Website.
In the lead up to the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna (that I will attending), I am very excited to have been assisting the fans of OGAE ROW though both the Facebook page and the ESCcovers Website. I am working hard now to ensure that our paid members will be able to collect their OGAE Cards and Stickers when they arrive. I am also working on anther article for the website about
In my job, communication is very important and I have seen that most discussions that have required my input, on the OGAE ROW Facebook page, have come about due to miscommunication. I have dealt personally with some of our members and sorted out their issues. I have found that if people know there is a point of contact that they can discuss and listen to their issues personally (and privately) then there is more likely to be a successful result.
I have truly appreciated Roy’s input and also I have enjoyed putting my skill set of people management to good use (dealing with our fans and their issues that they have had).
I believe that I would be a valuable part of OGAE International team if elected to the board as a BOARD MEMBER. Over the next few 2 years, I would like to continue to evaluate the communication between the different OGAE Clubs and OGAE International and ensure that they feel informed enough. I would like to continue the relationship between all the individual OGAE Branches and ensure that if there are any questions that they feel they have a good communication line with OGAE International. I have an Associate Degree (like a Masters Degree) in Management and also have run many companies with many staff and believe that I have good communication skills and can be a valuable asset to OGAE International. I would also like to look at the expansion of the presence on social media of OGAE International, like on twitter, Instagram etc. etc.
I have attached a copy of my Resume of my experience. I am an airline Pilot but I also have a lot of Management Experience in both starting up and running companies.
Please feel free to contact me at any stage and I look forward to seeing you in Vienna for the 60th Anniversary of the Eurovision Song Contest.
Kind Regards
