Call by Thursday night before hike. MHA SUNDAY–NOVEMBER 3––D+ This is the first in a series of three hikes covering the 28-mile Catoctin Trail. We will hike approximately 11 miles, beginning at and ending in the Frederick Municipal Forest. Expect some hills, the longest of which is approximately 600 feet. WEDNESDAY – NOVEMBER 6 – KEYSER’S RUN CIRCUIT – B MW LEAVE: 10:00 am. A hike of 5-6 miles at a moderate pace. From 695, take 795, and then Exit 140. Proceed to the Moose Lodge on 140 on the left, across from the Full Moon restaurant. This left turn is made from a turn lane. The Moose have graciously given us permission to use their parking lot. WEDNESDAY – NOVEMBER 6 – PATAPSCO STATE PARK – HILTON AREA – C+ MHA 7-8 mile circuit hike in the Hilton Area on the Valley View, Ridge and Cascade Trails and along the Patapsco River. MEET: 10:00 A.M. at Southwest Park-N-Ride, I-195 and Rolling Road. LEADER: Jack Bateman (410) 796-2722.

SATURDAY – NOVEMBER 9 – SUGARLOAF MOUNTAIN – D+ MW Circuit hike of 10-1/2 miles with 1700 gain and several good vistas. No breakfast stop. Bring lunch, water and wear hiking boots. SUNDAY – NOVEMBER 10 – LITTLE DEVIL’S STAIRCASE,SHENANDOAH NATIONAL PARK – E+ Length: 15 miles; Elevation gain: approximately 1,800 ft. Steep, rocky climb up Little Devil’s Staircase to Hogback Overlook and along the AT in Shenandoah National Park. LEAVE: 7:00 AM, Park & Ride, Exit 80, I-70 W and Rt. 32 N. Breakfast stop. WEDNESDAY – NOVEMBER 13 – LEAKIN/GWYNNS FALLS PARKS – C+ MHA Hike approximately 9.5 winding miles thru this Baltimore City woodland. MEET: 10:00 A.M. at Leakin Park entrance parking lot. Take I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) Exit 16 onto I-70 east and follow to end of expressway. Follow exit ramp to merge with north- bound lanes of Security Boulevard (MD-122). At first traffic light turn right onto Forest Park Avenue. After 8 short blocks, at first traffic light, turn right onto Windsor Mill Road. SUNDAY – NOVEMBER 17 – PATAPSCO STATE PARK – GLEN ARTNEY AREA – C+ MHA This is a six to eight mile hike over plenty of hills at a moderate pace. SATURDAY – NOVEMBER 23 – WHITE ROCKS TRAIL AND AT SOUTH – D Hike 10 miles over MCM trails in Pennsylvania. Checkout Center Point Knob and the Alec Kennedy Shelter. The hike features some hills and rocky terrain. There will be a breakfast stop and possible dinner stop. SUNDAY–NOVEMBER 24–CATOCTIN TRAIL–D+ MHA This is the second in a series of three hikes covering the 28-mile Catoctin Trail. We will hike approximately 11 miles, beginning in the Frederick Municipal Forest and ending in Cunningham Fall State Park. Expect some hills, the longest of which is approximate- ly 1200 feet over 1.4 miles. LEAVE 8:00a.m., Route 32 Park and Ride just north of I-70 (Exit 80). LEADER: Mike O’Connor (410) 871-0066. WEDNESDAY – NOVEMBER 27 – LITTLE GUNPOWDER FALLS – C MHA Hike from historic Jerusalem Mill to Kingsville Athletic Fields and back. About 7 miles, some rock scrambling and possible mud. FRIDAY – SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 29 – DECEMBER 1 – LOGGING RAILROAD BACKPACK – C+ In the early 1900’s, northern Pennsylvania was the premier logging area in the country. Join us for a 3-day backpack on trails that utilize many of the old logging grades. It will be a circuit hike on parts of the Black Forest and Susquehannock Trails connected by the North and South Link Trails. As usual, be prepared for beautiful scenery and any type of weather. Breakfast stop on the way north; possible dinner stop at the Black Forest Inn at the end of the hike. ** Register by November 22nd ** LEAVE: 6:30 am, Friday – Timonium Park & Ride (North Lot). FRIDAY – NOVEMBER 29 – SWEET AIR AREA – GUNPOWDER FALLS PARK – C MHA Moderate hike of approx. 7 miles. LEAVE: 10.00 A.M. from parking area. Exit 27 from I-695, 11.7 miles north on Dulaney Valley Rd (becomes Jarrettsville Pike), right onto Hess Rd go 1.1 miles and turn right onto Park Rd. Go .3 miles and turn left onto Moores Rd. WEDNESDAY – DECEMBER 4 – HASHAWHA – B MW Hike the trails of Hashawha and visit the Environmental Center and the Bear Branch Nature Center. MEET: 10:00 am. Nature Center parking lot. WEDNESDAY – DECEMBER 4 – LITTLE BENNETT PARK – D MHA Approximate 10 mile circuit hike with some hills at a moderate pace. WEDNESDAY – DECEMBER 11 – LITTLE GUNPOWDER TRAIL – C MHA Hike in Gunpowder Falls State Park along the Little Gunpowder Falls between Harford Road and the bridge at Jericho Road. This will be a moderately paced hike on fairly gentle terrain, 7-1/2 miles out and back, mostly at the river’s edge. LEAVE: 9:45 A.M. from Carney Park-N-Ride, 1/2 mile north of I-695, Exit 31. SATURDAY – DECEMBER 14 – ROCKY RIDGES – C++ Hike 9 miles or so on the A.T. from Rt. 94 to Boiling Springs…over Rocky Ridge, Little Rocky Ridge and Center Point Knob. WEDNESDAY – DECEMBER 18 – PARK – C+ MHA Hike 8-8.5 miles visiting Cunningham Falls, Hog Rock, Blue Ridge and Thurmont Vista Overlooks and Wolf and Chimney Rocks in approximately 4 hours. SUNDAY–DECEMBER 22–CATOCTIN TRAIL–C+ MHA This is the third in a series of three hikes covering the 28-mile Catoctin Trail. We will hike the last 6 miles of the Catoctin Trail (plus 3 additional miles), beginning in Cunningham Falls State Park and ending in . SUNDAY – DECEMBER 22 – JERUSALEM MILL – A,C+ MHA Hike along the pristine Little Gunpowder and see the covered bridge, restored iron bridge and more. This is actually two hikes, with one for beginners at 4.5 miles and one for experienced hikers at 7.5 miles. Moderate pace. 4 SATURDAY – DECEMBER 28 – MASSANUTTEN EAST – D TO E+ Get a head start on that New Years Resolution! Hopefully, we’ll have just a skiff of snow, and ridgeline views through the winter forest. The hike will be lead at a moderately brisk pace; as an out and back, you can also do a shorter, moderately paced hike. Group size limited to 15. Probable dinner stop. SUNDAY – DECEMBER 29 – GUNPOWDER/PANTHER BRANCH TRAILS – C Work off Christmas dinner in preparation for the New Years Eve feast. Hike a total of 5 or 6 miles on a circuit hike on the Gunpowder and Panther Branch trails in Gunpowder State Park. Several hills, none higher than 100’.Pace will be a moderate 2-2.5 miles per hour. WEDNESDAY – JANUARY 1 – PATAPSCO STATE PARK – MCKELDIN AREA – C+ MHA A circuit hike of approxiately 9 miles with an elevation gain of approximately 1.300’.Lunch will be overlooking Liberty Dam. MEET: 10:00 A.M. at Park. Take I-70 west from Baltimore Beltway to Exit 83 north, continue about 4 miles on Marriottsville Road, turn right at park entrance and proceed to parking area just past entrance booth. SUNDAY – JANUARY 5 – PANTHER BRANCH – C+ Enjoy a circuit hike of approximately 8 miles with hills and a stream crossing. Lunch will be at Raven Rock Falls. Hiking boots required. WEDNESDAY – JANUARY 8 – APPALACHIAN TRAIL ACROSS MD SERIES – C+ MHA First in a series of 9 hikes on the Appalachian Trail across Maryland. An out and back hike of a total of 9.5 miles going south from Pen Mar Park to Devils Racecourse Shelter trail. Total elevation gain is 1,750’ with the longest climb of 600’ over .8 mile. Trail is very rocky in places. Pace averages 2.5 miles per hour. SUNDAY – JANUARY 12 – MASON–DIXON TRAIL – E+ Length: 15 miles. Hike the Mason-Dixon Trail in PA from Lock 15 South to Peach Bottom area. Road walking included. Hike will include a car plant.
