INTRODUCCIÓN El Programa de Profesores Visitantes comenzó en el distrito escolar de Prince George´s County en Maryland (PGCPS – Prince George´s County Public Schools), con los primeros profesores recibidos por el distrito escolar en 2014, con los objetivos de impulsar las relaciones entre los ciudadanos estadounidenses y españoles, promover el conocimiento y el aprecio hacia la cultura que comparten las dos comunidades y dotar a los alumnos de una formación bilingüe y multicultural. El Ministerio de Educación y Formación Profesional (MEFP), a través de la Consejería de Educación en Washington, realiza las gestiones para posibilitar que Prince George’s County contrate a profesores españoles (firma del Memorando de Entendimiento, análisis de las necesidades de los profesores españoles, etc.) pero son las autoridades competentes de dicho distrito las que seleccionan a los profesores y les asignan a los respectivos centros educativos, como hacen con todos los profesores que contratan. A partir del momento que se les ha contratado, los profesores españoles pasan a formar parte de la plantilla de profesores que trabajan para el distrito a todos los efectos, con los mismos derechos y deberes que los profesores norteamericanos. Por lo tanto, el profesor visitante debe dirigirse a la autoridad competente dentro del distrito para resolver todas las cuestiones laborales que se puedan plantear. INFORMACIÓN GENERAL SOBRE MARYLAND 1.GEOGRAFÍA Pese a tratarse de una de las trece colonias originarias de los Estados Unidos, hoy Maryland es el noveno estado más pequeño del país. Rasgado por la bahía de Chesapeake, Maryland hace frontera con Pensilvania en el norte, Virginia y Virginia Occidental al oeste, Delaware al este y Washington DC al sur 2. CLIMA El tiempo es agradable de marzo a noviembre, con un verano que puede variar de templado a extremadamente caluroso. El invierno es corto, con más lluvia que nieve. La temperatura media anual varía mucho de una región a otra: de 9º C de media en el noroeste a 15º C en el sudeste, donde el clima es moderado gracias a las corrientes atlánticas. VIDA CULTURAL Maryland es un estado lleno de comunidades interesantes y diversas, perfectamente posicionado para permitirle a residentes y turistas acceso a otras ciudades como: Nueva York, Filadelfia, Washington DC y Boston. La capital, Baltimore, es el hogar de varios destinos turísticos, como el Acuario Nacional, el American Visionary Arts Museum, la base militar Fort McHenry, y el Centro de Ciencias de Maryland. Por otra parte, a lo largo del Oeste, Central, Oriente y Región Capital de Maryland hay varias zonas designadas como Maryland Arts & Entertainment Districts con una gran variedad de experiencias de teatro, restaurantes, y tiendas. Los museos son igual de impresionantes, como el Baltimore Museum of Art o el Walters Art Museum, mostrando algunas de las colecciones de arte más preciadas en el estado. Cerca de Maryland se encuentra Washington D.C., que cuenta con una oferta cultural que nada tiene que envidiar a muchas otras capitales del mundo. A partir del 12 de septiembre y hasta el 12 de octubre se celebra el Hispanic Heritage Month, y hay actos culturales de toda índole en toda la ciudad. Los más famosos suelen tener lugar en el Smithsonian y el Kennedy Center. Los mejores conciertos suelen tener lugar en el Kennedy Center y el Lisner Auditorium de George Washington University, a sólo diez minutos de distancia en automóvil. En la zona metropolitana y de fácil acceso vía metro está Strathmore Center, con una oferta musical inmensa de todo tipo a lo largo de todo el año. El Washignton Post publica en el mes de octubre toda la oferta cultural de la ciudad hasta el mes de enero, y en dicho mes publica la correspondiente hasta el mes de abril.     Camping places (campsites and cabins) With Carderock Springs as the center of the universe, here are a variety of camping locations in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Delaware. A big round of applause to Carderock’s Eric Nothman for putting this list together, doing a lot of research so the rest of us can spend more time camping! CAMPING in Maryland 1) Marsden Tract - 5 mins - (National Park Service) - C&O canal Mile 11 (1/2 mile above Carderock) three beautiful group campsites on the Potomac. Reservations/permit required. Max 20 to 30 people each. C&O canal - hiker/biker campsites (no permit needed - all are free!) about every five miles starting from Swains Lock to Cumberland. Campsites all the way to Paw Paw, WV (about 23 sites) are within 2 hrs drive. Three private campgrounds (along the canal) have cabins. Some sections could be traveled by canoe on the Potomac (canoe camping). Closest: Swains Lock - 10 mins - 5 individual tent only sites (one isolated - take path up river) - all close to parking lot. First come/first serve only. Parking fills up on weekends by 8am. Group Campsites are located at McCoy's Ferry, Fifteen Mile Creek, Paw Paw Tunnel, and Spring Gap. They are $20 per site, per night with a maximum of 35 people. Six restored Lock-houses - (several within a few miles of Carderock) - C&O Canal Trust manages six restored Canal Lock-houses for nightly rental (some with heat, water, A/C). 2) Cabin John Regional Park - 10 mins - 7 primitive walk-in sites. May not be reproduced or copied in any manner whatsoever. 1 Preface This field trips guide book has been written by Dave Carter and Ed Funk of the Northern Virginia Photographic Society, NVPS. Both are experienced and successful field trip organizers. Joseph Miller, NVPS, coordinated the printing and production of this guide book. In our view, field trips can provide an excellent opportunity for camera club members to find new subject matter to photograph, and perhaps even more important, to share with others the love of making pictures. Photography, after all, should be enjoyable. The pleasant experience of an outing together with other photographers in a picturesque setting can be stimulating as well as educational. It is difficullt to consistently arrange successful field trips, particularly if the club's membership is small. We hope this guide book will allow camera club members to become more active and involved in field trip activities. There are four camera clubs that make up the Northern Virginia Alliance of Camera Clubs McLean, Manassas-Warrenton, Northern Virginia and Vienna. All of these clubs are located within 45 minutes or less from each other. It is hoped that each club will be receptive to working together to plan and conduct field trip activities. There is an enormous amount of work to properly arrange and organize many field trips, and we encourage the field trips coordinator at each club to maintain close contact with the coordinators at the other clubs in the Alliance and to invite members of other clubs to join in the field trip.

This is your copy of the annual Let's Go Camping Guide. The National Capital Area Council Order of the Arrow Amangamek-Wipit Lodge updates this guide annually. This guide is intended to support the unit camping program by providing leaders with a directory of nearby campgrounds. The guide is organized into three sections. Section I lists public campgrounds in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Section II covers campgrounds administered by the Boy Scouts of America in Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. Section III provides a place for leaders to record their favorite campgrounds for future reference. Approximately 700,000 adults and thousands of young people fish each year in Maryland, with an estimated annual impact of $1 billion on our economy. Gov. Martin O’Malley and Sec. John R. Griffin More than a third of our anglers visit from out of state, testimony to the value and quality of our great fishing resources. We are very fortunate to have expert biologists and managers – working to- gether with our Sport Fisheries, Tidal Fisheries and Oyster Advisory Commissions, and our Coastal Fisheries Advisory Committee, to guide fisheries management across our State. We are also very fortunate to have you -- committed conserva- tionists and advocates – working with us. Your license revenues support protection and enhancement of Maryland’s fishery resources, research and management activities, expanded public access and enhanced law enforcement.
