Soon after it was founded by Jesuits on January 25, 1554, it nearly vanished for lack of residents. But that all changed with the growth of the coffee in- dustry the Brazilian Southeast. To transport the beans, railways were constructed, as was the Estação da Luz, the station from which the sacks were sent to the port of Santos. Meanwhile, immigrants arriv- ing on boats made the reverse trip to serve as a labor force in the production chain. Many ended up settling in the city, contributing to its industrialization and forming a population of a thousand and one faces and accents. It is joked that the 11 million people who live in São Paulo share a last name: “Work”. But they have another one as well: “Privilege”. Those who call the city their home have the privilege of living in the capital of culture, with 110 museums, 39 cultural centers, 260 movie theaters and 152 stages for theatrical and other shows at their disposal. And that’s without getting into the 12 500 bars, restaurants and nightclubs of the highest quality.     VALNEVA SE Campus Bio-Ouest | 6, Rue Alain Bombard 44800 Saint-Herblain, France Valneva to Partner with Instituto Butantan on Single-Shot Chikungunya Vaccine for Low- and Middle- Income Countries Saint-Herblain (France), Sao Paulo, (Brazil), May 5, 2020 – Valneva SE (“Valneva” or “the Company”), a specialty vaccine company, and Instituto Butantan, producer of immunobiologic products, today announced the signing of a binding term sheet for the development, manufacturing and marketing of Valneva’s single-shot chikungunya vaccine, VLA1553, in Low and Middle Income Countries (LMICs). The collaboration falls within the framework of the $23.4 million in funding Valneva received from the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) in July 20191. The definitive agreements are expected to be finalized in the next six months. After the signing of the definitive agreements, Valneva will transfer its chikungunya vaccine technology to Instituto Butantan, who will develop, manufacture and commercialize the vaccine in LMICs. In addition, Instituto Butantan will provide certain clinical and Phase 4 observational studies that Valneva will use to meet regulatory requirements. The agreement will include small upfront and technology transfer milestones. Valneva held its End of Phase 2 meeting with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in February 2020 and is now preparing to initiate Phase 3 clinical studies in the U.S. later this year. Thomas Lingelbach, Chief Executive Officer of Valneva, commented, “Although millions of people have been affected by chikungunya, there is currently no vaccine and no effective treatment available against this debilitating disease. We look forward to working with Instituto Butantan to help address this current public health crisis and speed up the development of a chikungunya vaccine in LMICs, which are high outbreak areas." E em sua vida breve – ele morreu aos 58 anos de idade – Portinari soube ver esse mundo se transformando, enfrentando os horrores da I Guerra Mundial, depois da Guerra Civil Espanhola, e depois da II Guerra Mundial, e nesse mundo ávido e conturbado soube ver as possibilidades do futuro, as heranças do passado e as mazelas de um presente duro, de injustiça profunda, de desigualdade sem fim. Soube ver tudo isso sem perder, nem por um instante, seu olhar poético e profundo, sua memória de uma etapa de inocência, e pôs tudo isso no que pintou. Acompanhar, ainda que de forma sucinta, o passar do tempo no Brasil e no mundo, ao longo da vida de Portinari, não faz outra coisa que realçar sua importância e confirmar sua sensibilidade certeira. A Petrobras foi criada em 1953, nove anos da morte do grande pintor. E tomou seu exemplo de apego ao país, de compromisso com o seu povo, de fé em nosso futuro. Selecionado pelo Programa Petrobras Cultural no segmento dedicado à educação para as artes, o projeto “Portinari – O Bauzinho do Pintor” abriga parte desse grande tesouro que é a obra do mestre.
