HEATING VALVE REMOVAL

CAUTION

Wait until the coolant temperature is below 120 °F (50 °C) before removing the surge tank cap. Failure to do so could result in injuries from coolant spray. The engine must be OFF to drain the coolant. See manual section 14: HVAC.

1.1. Depressurize the cooling system by opening the surge tank cap, located in the engine compartment.

1.2. Partially drain the passenger compartment heating circuit. See DRAINING THE COOLANT CIRCUIT OF THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT heading in manual section 14: HVAC. Follow all safety requirements indicated in this section, as well as those in force at your establishment. 1.3. Release the pressure from the pneumatic system. 1.4. Disconnect the pneumatic hose from the valve.

NOTE

See manual section 99: General practices for more information on hePEX tubing and the tools recommended for the repair of this type of tubing. Before proceeding to the next step, make sure a container is available for recovering the liquids that escape from the valve.

1.5. Keep at least 3 in. of hePEX pipe for enough space to repair the joint with the flaring tool. Cut the pipes and remove the valve. See Figure 3.

HEATING VALVE INSTALLATION

1.7. Make the sub-assembly of the new valve using the original valve parts.

NOTE

If an original part cannot be reused, refer to material list level 2 and to Figures 3 and 4 for ordering.

1.8. Apply a thin layer of thread sealant N37086 or equivalent on NPT threads. 1.9. On each side of the new valve, install two hePEX pipes N45723, longer than what is needed, with two N45718 rings. 1.10. Put the new valve in place and tighten the right N31320-07 P-clamp on the valve body and the left P-clamp on the N45718 ring. Some models use N69299 cable ties instead of P-clamps. Keep the valve body upward. 1.11. On the pipes cut at step 1.5, install two N69282 couplings and two N45718 rings. 1.12. Cut the pipes from the valve to their final length before finishing the joints with two N45718 rings. See Figure 5.

1.13. Fit the connector on to the pilot valve. 1.14. Connect the air hose to the valve. 1.15. Fill the coolant fluid circuit. See manual section 09: Engine cooling. 1.16. Proceed to the VERIFICATION OF THE HEATING VALVE heading in manual section 14: HVAC. 1.17. Check for leaks before closing access panels.
