HBO premieres new Olive Kitteridge

Miami, FL – October 20, 2014 – HBO announced the premiere of the new original miniseries Olive Kitteridge, based on Elizabeth Strout’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name. The four-part drama tells the poignantly sweet, acerbically funny and devastatingly tragic story of a seemingly placid New England town. The first two parts will premiere on Sunday, November 2nd at 21:00hrs AST* in the Caribbean, simultaneously with the United States, followed by parts three and four on Monday, November 3rd.

Olive Kitteridge portrays a town wrought with illicit affairs, crime and tragedy, told through the lens of Olive (Academy Award® winner Frances McDormand), whose wicked wit and harsh demeanor mask a warm but troubled heart and staunch moral center. The story, which spans 25 years, focuses on Olive, a middle-school math teacher, and her relationships with her husband Henry (Academy Award® nominee Richard Jenkins), the good-hearted town pharmacist; their son Christopher (John Gallagher, Jr. from HBO’s The Newsroom), who chafes at his mother’s parenting style; and other denizens of their community.

Like in the novel, this four-part adaptation weaves together several interlocking stories, all linked by Olive, who despite – and sometimes because of – her abrasive manner has significant impact on the lives of those around her. Though many of the characters are filled with complex emotional struggle, the heaviness of miniseries’ themes – depression, adultery, suicide – is underscored by moments of truly unexpected and subtle humor.

Among the supporting cast of Olive Kitteridge are Golden Globe® winner Bill Murray as Jack Kennison, a widower befriended by Olive; Emmy® nominee Peter Mullan as Jim O’Casey, a fellow teacher at Olive’s school; Rosemarie DeWitt as Rachel Coulson, a shut-in who is one of Henry’s customers at the pharmacy; Zoe Kazan as Denise Thibodeau, a young bride who works at the pharmacy; and Ann Dowd (HBO’s The Leftovers) as Kitteridge family friend Bonnie.

Additionally, co-stars include Broadway’s Cory Michael Smith as Kevin Coulson, Olive’s former student; Jesse Plemons as Jerry McCarthy, Henry’s delivery boy; Brady Corbet as Henry Thibodeau, Denise’s husband; Audrey Marie Anderson as Ann, Christopher Kitteridge’s second wife; Patricia Kalember as Joyce, Christopher’s mother-inlaw; and Maryann Urbano as Mrs. Kennison, Jack’s wife.

Olive Kitteridge is executive produced by , , Frances McDormand and Jane Anderson, marking Hanks and Goeztman’s fifth miniseries with HBO, following Emmy® winners The Pacific, , and From the Earth to the Moon. Other HBO/ collaborations include the Emmy®-winning HBO Film Game Change, the
