Viewing Guide for Band of Brothers & The Pacific
Directions: We will be watching two episodes from the HBO mini-series Band of Brothers and The Pacific. Decide on our motif, and, using the back of this paper, write down 3 – 4 examples of scenes where your motif is evident. You will use these descriptions for your WWII project.

Band of Brothers, Episode #7: “The Breaking Point”
Band of Brothers is a 2001 HBO 12 part miniseries featuring the true story of "E" Easy Company, 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division from their initial training starting in 1942 to the end of World War II. The episode that you will be watching is Part 7. This episode focuses on Colonel Carwood Lipton as he narrates the story. Having thwarted the Germans at Bastogne, the exhausted Easy Company must now take the nearby town of Foy from the enemy. Several are killed and wounded in fierce shelling, an event compounded by the incompetence of their commander, Lt. Dike. Easy Company takes Foy, but at an enormous cost.

The Pacific, Episodes 5 (last half): “Peleliu Landing” & 6: “Peleliu Airfield”
The Pacific is a 2010 HBO 12 part miniseries telling the intertwined stories of three Marines during America's battle with the Japanese in the Pacific during World War II. You will first watch the last half of Part 5. In this episode PFC Eugene Sledge has just joined the 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. He then gets his first taste of combat as he, PFC Robert Leckie, and the rest of the 1st Marine Division meet fierce Japanese resistance while landing on the intricately and heavily defended coral island of Peleliu. Next, you will watch Part 6 of the series. In this episode Sledge, Leckie, and the other Marines suffer from the suffocating 115-degree heat and a lack of clean drinking water. They confront the highly fortified enemy as they attempt to capture the Peleliu airfield. After seeing his comrades badly injured, Leckie himself is wounded and evacuated from the island. Sledge witnesses the shocking truth as to what is sometimes required to survive and fight another day.
