Acts 13:43-49 43 And after the meeting of the synagogue broke up, many Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and , who, as they spoke with them, urged them to continue in the grace of God. 44 The next Sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord. 45 But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and began to contradict what was spoken by Paul, reviling him. 46 And Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, saying, "It was necessary that the word of God be spoken first to you. Since you thrust it aside and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we are turning to the Gentiles. 47 For so the Lord has commanded us, saying, "'I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.'" 48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord, and as many as were appointed to eternal life believed. 49 And the word of the Lord was spreading throughout the whole region. They journeyed overland through hilly territory up to Antioch of Pisidia II. Invited to speak at the Synagogue in Antioch A. Paul & Barbabas attended the meeting at the Synagogue on the Sabbath. B. They were invited to speak by the leaders of the Synagogue. C. Paul gave the Biblical grounds for the Gospel 1. God chose the children of Abraham and fulfilled his promises to make them great and inherit the land of promise. 2. God gave promises to King David that a son would be given who would reign as King over God’s people forever. a) (, our Savior is the fulfillment of that promise) 3. John the Baptist testified of the promised Messiah King’s eminent arrival 4. The Jewish rulers in Jerusalem did not recognize their Messiah King and had him crucified though they could find in Him no guilt. 5. God the Father raised Him from the dead on the third day. 6. His disciples and followers were with Him many days after His resurrection. D. Paul made the Gospel Message clear 1. What God has promised to the fathers (Old Testament) He has fulfilled to us (their children) by raising Jesus from the dead. 2. In Christ (Our Passover Lamb) there is forgiveness of sins offered to you. 3. In Christ (Our King) there is freedom from the law and sin’s death sentence. III. RESPONSE: “Many, who were appointed to eternal life, BELIEVED!” A. Both Jews and Devout Converts to Judaism were among the first new believers B. A week later on the next Sabbath - “almost the whole city gathered to hear the Word of the Lord.” C. The unbelieving Jews were jealous and began to oppose the message of the Gospel D. The unbelieving Jews used their influence on the governing leaders until Paul & Barnabas were driven from the city of Antioch of Pisidia. ______1. Take the Gospel to your neighbor 2.
