Course content 'Good design management makes a vital contribution to both products and services and the strength with which companies and organizations put across their message.' Dingeman Kuilman, Director of Premsela. Design is everywhere Achieving and maintaining competitive advantage… This can be done by influencing the thinking of relevant target groups. This can be done, for instance, with a well-devised design strategy or at least with a simple and distinctive visual policy in which all non-verbal communication exhibits a well- considered consistency. The added value of design, after all, is observable in all the stages in which a product or service is produced, packaged, brought to the attention of customers, sold, delivered and maintained. Ideally, all conceivable design disciplines should be deployed for this: architectonic design, product design, packaging design, illustrative design, graphic design, interactive design, industrial design, spatial design, editorial design and fashion design. Modules This minor comprises three modules which together will contribute to your insight into the way a design manager thinks and acts. The PROJECT, in which you will answer a number of questions as a team, is central to this module. As part of the project, we will introduce you to the practice of design management and provide you with an opportunity to acquire practice in briefing and issuing assignments. 'THE LOOK AND FEEL OF DESIGN’, in which you acquire an insight into the 'language' of design and designers. 'DESIGN AND DESIGN MANAGEMENT’, in which you will mainly acquire management knowledge of the various design areas.
The term ‘design’ and the related term ‘design management’ are playing an increasingly greater role in the strategic business operations of commercial and non-commercial organisations and companies. Three different forms of design can be distinguished: product design, environmental design and communication design. Although all three will be discussed in this differentiation minor, communication design in particular will play an important role.
