The Independent School Multicultural Conference & College Fair

Saturday, October 19, 2019 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Welcome to Westtown Founded in 1799 by the Religious Society of Friends, Westtown School continues to be one of the nation’s best-known Quaker schools. Students at Westtown are challenged to realize their intellectual, physical, emotional, and spiritual potential. Truth, openness, and honesty are values which undergird the school community. A spirit of inquiry reigns in the classroom and students are encouraged to think creatively, to feel the condition of others, and to listen to their inner selves. Westtown expects students to be critical, independent thinkers who can work with a spirit of cooperation, understanding, and tolerance of the views of others.

Our thanks to the many parent and student volunteers as well as Westtown staff members whose collaboration made this day possible. Westtown’s Families for Multicultural Community (FMC), founded in 2001, has partnered with the school to build community for students of color and their families, and to offer inclusive programs on culture, careers, and college. The FMC and Friends schools first partnered to host the College Fair in 2005 and have continued to do so every other year with the support of many independent schools and community-based organizations from Washington to New York City. Westtown School thanks FMC for its outreach, which has enabled countless students to participate in this empowering conference and has given them access to college and university representatives from across the country. Thank you to the co-clerks of the program Marion Henderson, FMC Parent Leader, and Marjorie Ireland, College Counseling.
