INVITATION

Dear Colleagues, The International Society for Horticultural Sciences (ISHS) and the Organizing Committee of the 3rd Balkan Symposium on Fruit Growing (BSFG) are pleased to invite you to attend the most significant event in fruit growing sector in Balkan area in 2015, that will be held in Belgrade, at “Crowne Plaza”, from 16th to 18th September. This international meeting is mostly intended for researchers from Balkan countries, but researchers from all other counties are also welcome. The aim of this symposium is promoting the communication and cooperation among the researchers, companies and growers. We would like to invite you to participate in this event. Hope to see you in Belgrade, Serbia in September, 2015.

SYMPOSIUM LOCATION

The Symposium will be held in Belgrade, SERBIA, in the hotel “Crowne Plaza”.

Belgrade is the capital and largest city of Serbia. It is located at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, where the Pannonian Plain meets the Balkans. The city has a population of 1.23 million, while over 1.65 million people live in its wider area. According the number of residents, it is the largest city in the territory of the former Yugoslavia and in the fourth place in Southeastern Europe (after Istanbul, Athens and Bucharest). Belgrade has a moderate continental climate. The average annual temperature is 12.3°C. The warmest month is July (average temperature of 21.8°C), while the coldest month is January (average temperature of 0.6°C). The average temperature in September is 18.0°C. The average annual rainfall is 680 millimeters.

The “Crowne Plaza” hotel is located in the central business district of , 13 km from the International Belgrade Airport Nikola Tesla, near two shopping malls (Delta City and Usce) and only 5 minute drive away from the city center. This property offers 416 rooms and suites designed to provide absolute comfort and the highest level of service. It has the biggest indoor swimming pool of all in Belgrade.

Faculty of Agriculture, University of Belgrade was founded in 1919. It is located in Zemun. Faculty teaching and research activity carried out within the following departments: Crop Science, Fruit Science and Viticulture, Horticulture, Zoo Techniques, Soil Management, Phytomedicine, Agricultural Engineering, Food Technology and Agroeconomy. The number of employees is about 500, while the number of students is around 4,000.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

Abstract submission

Abstracts should be prepared according to authors guidelines and submitted using ISHS online submission and reviewing tool at the website: http://www.actahort.org/members/symposiar?nr=383.

Note: ISHS membership for 2015 is compulsory to submit an abstract (for presenting author).

The deadline for abstract submission is June 1, 2015. Final decision for acceptance and selection of abstracts for oral or poster presentations will be made by the Scientific Committee until June 15, 2015. Book of abstracts will be published before the symposium.

Abstract preparation guidelines

Abstract must be submitted in English. It should consists of a title, list of authors and their affiliations, e-mail address of corresponding author, text of abstract and key words. Use Times New Roman font. Titles should be in 14 point and the rest of the text in 12 point. Type the title of the abstract in bold, uppercase, center alignment. Full names of authors (surname and name) and affiliations should be typed in normal font, center alignment. Designate the name of the corresponding author with the asterisk (*). The abstract should be in one paragraph, single line spaced, justified. Abstract must not exceed maximum of 300 words. The abstract should include the following parts: objective of the study, methodology, results and conclusion. Authors should indicate preferred type of presentation (oral or poster), but final decision will be made by the Scientific Committee.

Full papers submission

Instructions for papers are available at the ISHS homepage (www.ishs.org/authors). Recommended length of papers is up to 6 pages, including tables and figures. Full papers should be submitted by September, 15, 2015 using ISHS online submission and reviewing tool at the website: http://www.actahort.org/members/symposiar?nr=383. Submitted papers will be peer reviewed and published in the series Acta Horticulturae after the symposium.

Oral presentations

Duration of oral presentations is limited to 15 minutes, including 3 minutes for questions. Presentations should be prepared in the programme Microsoft Power Point and saved on CD or flash memory. Authors are kindly asked to transfer their presentation at the symposium computer on time.

Posters

The size of posters should be 100 x 80 cm. Posters should be displayed from Wednesday, 16th September, 9 a.m. to Thursday, 17th September, 7 p.m..

By Car If you come from the south (Niš direction) use the highway E-75. Take the first exit after crossing the bridge over the Sava river. If you come from the south (Novi Sad direction, highway E-75) or the west (Zagreb direction, highway E- 70) take the next exit after Belgrade arena e.g. the exit just before the bridge over the Sava river. Private car parking is available in front of the hotel's main entrance. Daily fee for self- parking is 14 EUR and for valet parking is 17 EUR. The large free public parking is also available in front of the hotel. However, during the working hours (from 9 to 17) it is often difficult to find free place.

Museum of Yugoslav History is located on Dedinje. The museum complex comprises three buildings, set in a 3 hectare park: Museum ʻMay 25th’, ʻHouse of Flowers’ and Old Museum. ʻHouse of Flowers’ is the mausoleum of , the leader of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Church of Saint Sava is the largest Orthodox church in the world, dedicated to Saint Sava, the founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church. Nearby is the National Library of Serbia and the Monument of Karadjordje, the founder of modern Serbia. Nikola Tesla Museum preserve and display the legacy of Nikola Tesla, one of the the world’s most famous inventors and scientists in the fields of physics, electrical engineering and radiotechics. Belgrade Fortress is the oldest part of Belgrade. We will see the confluence of the Sava river into the Danube, Zindan Gate, Despot Stefan’s Tower, Church of St. Petka, Rose Church, Victor Monument, Roman Well, Military Museum, Clock Gate. Skadarlija is the main bohemian quarter of Belgrade with a lot of restaurants and art galleries.

The price of the tour is 50 EUR. It is not included in the Registration Fee. Registration for tour is required before the start of the symposium by E-mail, and payment should be done during the time of registration.
