Alert! Alert! There is a new movie in town!! Have you seen it yet? Well, if you haven’t, here’s a little review to fill you on everything you’ve missed out on.

Dumbo is a live-action film that is based off the original Dumbo animation movie. Dumbo is rated PG but includes some animal cruelty scenes and some rude humor at times. I don’t recommend this movie for children ages 7 and younger. This film takes place in the early 1900s and shows all the hardships back then. The plot starts off with a struggling circus that gets an opportunity of a lifetime, because of an elephant baby named Dumbo. Dumbo is an ordinary baby elephant, except he has oversized ears that everyone makes fun of. The original Dumbo movie has some minor differences from the new one which can be expected. Some viewers say that this version is much darker than the original.

I found that I enjoyed the first Dumbo better than the second one because the first version was more kid-friendly, and entertaining. The second version, I found was more realistic to the real world and was really emotional. On the other hand this movie teaches children to follow their dreams like Dumbo did to reunite with his mom. In my opinion, I think Disney shouldn't recreate any of their classic movies!

Mary Poppins Returns Written by Chloe Harder

The old classic, , has been loved to this day. Now a new movie came out, “!”. This movie came out on December 19, 2018. You may be heading to go and buy this right now thinking you have to buy this sequel of your favorite classic, but don’t be too hasty. When it comes to popularity this movie has only been rated 67%, but it does include the creator of Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda. Even though it has a small amount of popularity, it has a 79% rating on . The movie is about the original two kids, Jane and Michael, Mary Poppins took care of, who are now adults. It’s also about their children and their struggles to keep their house. One day, Mary Poppins shows up! She insists she will take care of the kids of Jane and Michael. They go on an adventure, imagine amazing things while trying to save their house.

My overall feelings for the movie was that it was good. The music for the movie was, in my opinion, quite bad. The movie lacked something that could have brought it all together. Some of the music felt like it was a struggle to sing, which made it sound forced. Other than the music it had an interesting story and included most of the details to a good movie.

Have you ever wished to be a superhero? If you’re a kid reading this, have you ever wished to become an adult? Well, Billy Batson became both in the new movie SHAZAM, which was the top movie in the box office on its weekly debut. Compared to other superhero movies, this one stands out the most. When do you see ever see a boy become a superhero in any superhero movie?! So if you want to see something different , you should see Shazam!

Shazam is about a boy named Billy Batson that lost his mother at a carnival. His mom never found him and he ended up in foster care. As he grew up, every day he would try to find his mom. Every foster care home he went to, he ran away from. He then comes across a wizard that gives him superpowers. The movie explores what happens when a child becomes an adult and how he handles his superpowers. He then discovers that he needs to use these powers to defeat the villain.

This is a great movie because of it stands out from every superhero movie. This movie is also a funny, unique, and interesting. It really caught our attention. Yamel and Tianalis give it 5 out 5. It was a very amazing movie! So come to the movies to see SHAZAM!!!!!!! Make sure you go see it in the theaters while you can.

Teacher Spotlight

Hello again! This week our staff members have decided on interviewing our cool and awesome art teacher Mrs. Shelley for our teacher’s spotlight. Mrs. Shelley has been teaching at Beaubien for seven years. She teaches children from kindergarten all the way up until 8th grade, and just recently started teaching Pre-K. Her passion for art started when she began an interest in it at the age of just seven! If she weren’t a teacher, she would be a bird because they could fly around everywhere. Speaking of traveling, Mrs. Shelley loves to travel, watch movies, garden, read, and listen to music when she isn’t doing art. Mrs. Shelley was born in Africa, and when she wants to, you’ll find her visiting her hometown and enjoying nature of the world. When she traveled to Africa, she was interested in everything. She liked being in the game reserve, looking at lions and elephants. She left to go to the United States because of apartheid (a·part·heid) (segregation) She also has two kids, Nick who is 35 and Jess who is 27. Mrs. Shelley graduated elementary school in Waldorf school. She graduated college from Johannesburg College of Art and Design. Before each class starts, she has the children dance with her for a minute, give or take. Her overall wish is for people to follow their passions and see the world from a different perspective.

No one cares No one minds Why the raindrops fall The raindrops fall The birds call The raindrops fall People go to the mall The raindrops fall The trees grow tall

But no one cares And no one minds WHY the raindrops fall.

If I Were a Cloud

If I were a cloud floating high in the sky Would I fly or would I cry All the rain all the pain It never goes away but I come and go every day

Sometimes I’m down being stepped on all around others I’m gray floating away sometimes I’m pouring out my rage and pain but to you all it's just thunder or rain and when I lose my top I’ll blow you all away it might just last all night and all day

-Alyssa B. Room 201/6th Grade Odd Spring Anonymous 6th Grader

Flowers blooming, Leaves upon the trees, Snow among the roofs, It sure is an odd spring,

Clouds covering the sky, Cold winds flowing the air, Ice falling from the sky, It sure is an odd spring,

The sun as a lamp without a shade, New life coming to the Earth, Trees perking up higher than the buildings, Yes,It sure is an odd spring

The Rain

The rains pitter patter Muffles the children’s laughter, The rain slides down the roof’s peak, Like tears on a baby’s cheek. Everyone’s inside their house, Looking miserable and weak

The rain saves us from special occasions, It prevents our dreaded occupation The lightning strikes, Gives 1000 frights As long as we’re careful, The rain can be alright

-Audrina -6th Grade Mother Nature! By Evelyn Reyes rm. 200

The day is so nasty Why is mother nature being so feisty?

The rain is coming down so fast How long will it last?

The rain is just like bullets Bullets are just like rain.

The day is so nasty Why do they cause me so much pain?

If I Were a Tree

If I were a tree, As glad as can be, I’d wish to move, Or bust a groove. That’s my wish.

If I were a tree, As fresh as can be, I’d wish to talk, Or take a walk. That’s my wish.

If I were a tree, More free than just free, I’d stay up ‘til late, Or find my best mate. That’s my wish.

If I were a tree, Just simple old me, I’d like to write, Just try what is right, That’s my wish.

Asad Sheikh 201 Spring

No sun, As we hum.

No birds flying high, Up in the sky.

No people walking, As we’re talking.

I wish I feel sand, As it once touched my hand.

Summer will soon come, As it’s done.
