Dartmoor Ponies

Dartmoor is famous for the wild ponies which live there. The ponies are very small: just 127 cm tall. In the past they worked in the mines on Dartmoor. They also worked on the farms. The ponies are very important for the conservation of the Moor. They eat gorse and other plants and help to stop trees from growing. You can adopt a pony for yourself for twelve pounds a year.

Dartmoor ponies are wild animals – they look friendly, but they can bite or kick. Ponies are killed on the roads on Dartmoor because people feed them and so the ponies stand by the road and wait for food.

Dont feed the ponies!
