Herbs perennial, usually tufted. Rhizome short. Stems usually terete. Leaves mostly basal; leaf sheath closed, auricles absent; leaf blade lanceolate to linear, flat, usually channeled, margin long white ciliate. Inflorescences cymose, umbellate, umbel-like, corymbose, or paniculate, sometimes condensed into heads. Flowers often solitary, subtended by a scarious bract and enclosed at base by 2 short bracteoles; bracteoles usually lacerate or denticulate at margin. Perianth segments 6. Stamens 6, usually shorter than perianth; filaments thin; anthers oblong to linear. Ovary 1-loculed; ovules 3, erect from a basal, very short placenta. Style short. Capsule 3-valved. Seeds 3, oblong, indistinctly reticulate, often with a basal or apical appendage (caruncle). About 75 species: mainly in cool regions of both hemispheres, in tropical regions restricted to high elevations; 16 species (six endemic) in China. Luzula capitata (Miquel) Nakai (from Japan, Korea, and Russia) has been reported from NE China. However, the present authors could not find this species among the many Chinese specimens they examined. Further investigation is required. 1a. Приведен обзор опубликованных работ по динамике ареала европейского зубра (Bison bona- sos L.) в Восточной Европе с раннего голоцена до настоящего времени и определены причины его исчезно- вения. Рассмотрена трофическая и топическая деятельность европейского зубра, дана оценка его средообразующего воздействия на растительный покров. Подготовлена база видов кормовых растений, по- едаемых зубром в лесном поясе Восточной Европы, насчитывающая 624 вида сосудистых растений. Состав- лены полные списки видов кормовых растений и списки видов, имеющих высокую кормовую ценность для зубров, обитающих в польской и белорусской частях Беловежской пущи, Приокско-Террасном заповеднике и на Северном Кавказе. Ключевые слова: зубр, ареал, голоцен, история расселения и истребления зубра, трофическое и топиче- ское воздействие зубров на растения и сообщества, база кормовых растений: экологические и эколого- ценотические группы видов. -

Even though the Yongneup wetland protected area is relatively small, various plant species are distributed in the Yongneup wetland protected area because it includes various habitats showing different environmental gradients. Vascular plants distributed in the Yongneup wetland protected area were identified as a total of 376 taxa that is composed of 73 families, 217 genera, 322 species, 3 subspecies, 44 varieties and 7 forms. For endangered plants designated by the Ministry of Environment, 5 species including Trientalis europaea var. arctica, Lilium dauricum, Halenia corniculata, Lychnis wilfordii and Menyanthes trifoliata were found and 34 taxa were confirmed to be distributed only in the mountainous wetland habitats. Regarding naturalized plants, a total of 11 taxa were distributed, but most of them were distributed in the areas where artificial interference has occurred. And in areas inside the wetlands that are relatively well preserved, 2 species of Bidens frondosa and Erigeron annuus were observed. Siles. Sci. Natur., 66: 65-73, 2017. Abstract: The paper presents a regional red list of vascular plant species native to the Western Suwałki Lakeland, north-eastern Poland, based on the IUCN red list categories and criteria. The distribution and abundance data were obtained from the field floristic inventories carried out in 2008- 2016 using the ATPOL cartogram method. The historical occurrences of vascular plant species were revised in the field. The list comprises 203 species, including seven regionally extinct species, 43 critically endangered species, 49 endangered species, 25 vulnerable species, 48 near threatened species, and 31 data deficient species. The results are compared to the Polish national red list of pteridophytes and flowering plants and briefly discussed. Key words: extinction, IUCN red list categories and criteria, threatened species, Poland. Introduction Species extinction is a common phenomenon caused by various natural and anthropogenic factors. The risk of species extinction can be evaluated at global, continental, national or regional level using the uniform categories and criteria recommended by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN Standards and Petitions Subcommittee 2016). These categories and criteria are widely applied as a standard method for preparing red lists and books of threatened species. In Poland, the first national red list of vascular plants was published in 1986 (Zarzycki 1986) and it has been updated three times (Zarzycki & Szeląg 1992, 2006, Kaźmierczakowa et al. -

Phylogenetic and barcoding studies usually employ fresh parts of plants as the source of DNA. Successful DNA amplification has been achieved in such investigations for different regions. However, there is need for the utilization of dried samples, due to frequent inaccessibility of fresh precious plants or their parts for genetic analyses or barcoding studies. Difficulties in obtaining amplifiable DNA have appeared as one of the major pitfalls that resulted in slowdown of the use of herbarium specimens for DNA analyses. Methods. Recent study highlights the crucial issues that are being faced by comparison of herbarium and fresh plants for barcoding purposes. We analyzed the performance of samples from herbarium specimens of different age and fresh plants in PCR reaction and sequencing of seven regions (cpDNA: rbcL, rpoC1, trnL-F intergenic spacer, trnL intron, psbA-trnH, mtDNA: atp1 and nrDNA: ITS1-5.8S-ITS2) with a combination of twenty-eight primers. Conclusions. We show that herbarium specimens may be successfully applied both for phylogenetic as well as for barcoding purposes. In comparison with fresh samples, working with dried herbarium specimens is more complicated, but may lead to amplification and sequencing success in almost all cases when appropriate internal primers are designed or optimization methods are used. -
