An increased number of finished cattle sold this week with a higher proportion of underfinished and poorer quality sorts affecting the overall averages. The premium and prime steers and heifers still commanding superb prices with demand for all. Top price per kilo at 242p was a British Blue x steer from Trevedra Farm Partnership of Sennen purchased by R.J. Trevarthen Ltd of Roskrow. Premium heifer was the pick of a run of five super Limousin crosses from Messrs. J. & J. Sawle & Son of Beacon knocked down at 239p/kg to Harvey Bros. Butchers of St. Ives, & ; their heavier 584kg heifer dearest realising £1,314 to J.V. Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station. Top value steer at £1,573 was Messrs. W.S. Gay & Son of St. Allen’s 749kg South Devon x sold to David Ellis of Lelant.

South Devons claiming both top ppk and £/head in the beef section with 166p/kg achieved by Messrs. P.A. Sims & Sons of St. Wenn; a heavier 757kg cow for Messrs. P.R. & T. Eustice of Crantock realising £1,082 and both bought by David King of Exeter.

Another entry of quality store cattle starting with almost 100 good various breed stirks followed by numbers of stronger sorts with all types and breeds represented. A busy ring of buyers keeping prices at record levels with many more required to satisfy local and out of County demand. Ten super steers from Mrs. B. Baxter of Porkellis averaged £1,310 with top price for a 21 month old Limousin x of £1,450! Next at £1,410 were a Charolais x pair 18/19 months old, with a further trio at £1,365. Up there at £1,395 best Friesian steer 27 months old from Messrs. T.G. & Son of St. Levan. British Blue x steer 14 months old from Trevedra Farm Partnership of Sennen £1,355 with a 13 month old Limousin x steer pair £1,055 for Mr. E.P. Loader of . Topping the heifers at £1,175 were 2 year old British Blue crosses from Messrs. M.S. Manuell & Son of Burngullow. Next at £1,150 was Trevedra Farm’s single British Blue x heifer at 16 months old. The Special Sale of Stirks was hugely successful creating strong interest with a super run of 34 British Blue x and Hereford x named-sire steers and heifers from Messrs. A. Roberts & Sons of Newmill. A pen of 40.1kg handyweights from the same vendor set the premium to 329p/kg, bought by R.J. Trevarthen Ltd of Roskrow.
