The top average of 238p/kg as well as the top value at £1,487 for a butcher’s quality 626kg Limousin x heifer from Messrs A R, B & A Hosking of St Martin, Helston, purchased by Trevarthens of Roskrow, closely followed by a 756kg South Devon steer which realised £1,455 for Mr A Blamey of Veryan, Truro, bought by David King of Exeter. Included was a consignment of bulls and a steer from Messrs C R & I E White of Nancegollan, Helston. Their bulls sold to £1,574 for a 15 mo. Charolais x and a similar bred steer weighing in at 905kg sold for £1,710. The best of Mr A J Jelbert’s consignment was a Shorthorn x heifer selling at 194p/kg. Leading the way was a single Limousin x steer which sold at £1,200 for Messrs A P & S R Hooper of Castle-an-Dinas, St Columb, closely followed by a super pair of 14 mo. Limousin x steers from Messrs S M & J Blee of St Martin, Helston which sold at £1,180. The heifers sold to £1,100 for a smart pair of Limousins from Mr R E Richards of St Keverne, Helston. A run of powerful Charolais x stores from Messrs G S Skinner & Son of St Ervan, Wadebridge saw their best pair of 16 mo. Charolais steers sell to £1,165. Another good batch of well-reared young Limousin x steers from Messrs I D & S S Backway of St Eval, Wadebridge sold to £1,135. A good run of Stabiliser cows with calves at foot sold to £1,040 for Mr I J Phillips of Lanivet, Bodmin. A Limousin cow with calf at foot from Messrs B K & E L Piper of Sithney, Helston sold to £1,250. REARING CALVES - Auctioneer – Patrick Dennis A fantastic trade for all on offer, with every make and model seeing stiff competition from a ringside full of bidders, A quality young British Blue x bull calf being sold on behalf of Messrs S & K Kendall of Lanivet flew away to £450 closely followed by another British Blue x bull at £425 for Messrs R M & C D Rundle of Mevagissey, and Aberdeen Angus x bulls to £420 twice for Messrs J Searle & Son of Rosudgeon, Penzance. Also worthy of a mention was a good entry of Friesian bulls from various vendors to a cracking average of £138.25. More required next week to meet the strong demand from buyers.
