We pay special attention to research issues relevant for the region and also to the education of the new generation of researchers and lecturers, among other things, by the publication of the academic achievements of our doctoral students. The objectives specified above were the motivation for the organization of a conference on 26 November 2020 – online, adjusting to the changed conditions – and the publication of the papers made from the presentations after several proofreading rounds. The organisation of the conference was also supported by the Southern Transdanubia Committee of the Hungarian Historical Society. To make the research activity of the working group visible in the international arena, the studies are published in English and German language. The book is a collection of papers by colleagues of seven different institutions. Regarding their institutional affiliations, most of them are university lecturers, but some of the authors work in archives. The eight doctoral students do their studies and research in the Doctoral School of Regional Policy and Economics and the Interdisciplinary Doctoral School of the University of Pécs. The topics analyzed cover different Hungarian and European economic and social history fields in the 18th-20th centuries, indicating the broad range of research carried out in the region. Three papers analyze the economic modernization processes of cities and towns in South Transdanubia (Pécs, Nagykanizsa, and Barcs), four were written on economic transitions at the national level (plantations, land policy, cafés, and economic policy). In recent years, a popular research area is the history of tourism, on which three papers of the book were written (tourism in Pécs, narrow-gauge railways, and the medical spa of Sikonda). An old and important research topic on South Transdanubia is manors‘ history, represented by two papers written on Keszthely (in the book). Two studies deal with the operation of the traditional Baranya world (viticulture and mills), one with the transformation of the financial institutions, and a paper with social history focus introduces the composition of university students in Pécs in the 1920s. The territorial horizon of the papers is broad: an essay on Pomerania and another one on Fiume (now Rijeka) is a demonstration of research in this field. Pécs, 31 December 2020 Prof. Kaposi, Zoltán DSc. Dr. habil Rab, Virág Chair of the Working Group of Secretary of the Working Group of Economic and Social History Economic and Social History 7 Márta Fata Die deutsche Einwanderung in Ungarn unter Joseph II. Ursachen, Folgen und gesamtmonarchische Zusammenhänge Abstract Historical research has not yet adequately answered why there was a large-scale, state-organized settlement of German colonists under Joseph II between 1784 and 1787. Previous studies recognize the only reason for this in the low population density generally characterizing the eastern half of the Habsburg Monarchy. In the present study, the causes and consequences of immigration are placed in overall monarchical contexts and examined. This study concludes that state sponsored immigration of German settlers was no priority of the monarch under the reign of Joseph II. The emperor wanted to reform the contemporary agricultural relations in Hungary too but the strong resistance of the Hungarian nobility resulted that he could not introduce the Raab system in contrast to Czechland and Moravia. The subdivision of state lands directed a part of the German migration to Galicia. The German migration helped him to reach two goals. First, it increased the number of peasant workers; second, a portion of state lands became peasant-owned. The subdivision was only an episode on the way to a new agricultural system. It did not reach the significance of other edicts for instance the abolition of serfdom in 1785. However, its beneficial social and economic effects became clear in the long run. • Natural Radioactive Element Content of the Old Crystalline Rocks in Southern Transdanubia (Sw Hungary)
Acta Mineralogica-Petrographica, Szeged, XL, 121-138, 1999 NATURAL RADIOACTIVE ELEMENT CONTENT OF THE OLD CRYSTALLINE ROCKS IN SOUTHERN TRANSDANUBIA (SW HUNGARY) E. PÁL MOLNÁR*, I. VADOS**, I. GERZSON**, B. KÓBOR* •Department of Mineralogy, Geochemistry and Pétrology, Attila József University "Mecsekérc Environment Protection Co. ABSTRACT On the basis of systématisation of several thousand radioactive element content analyses made in laboratories since the 50's, U and Th content of old granitoid rocks of Southern Transdanubia proved to be much higher than the average U and Th content of granitoids in the world. This value of rocks from areas west of Mecsek Mountains as well as near Szalatnak village and Pecs city is twice higher than the world average. Areas west of the Mecsek Mountains show higher U and lower Th contents than areas east of these mountains. Uranium accumulation is higher in aplites and hydrothermal formations than in granites. The western and eastern granites are less and highly sensitive to leaching, respectively. The intensive U migration resulted in significant U accumulation in young sediments in some places. INTRODUCTION Study of natural radioactive element (U /Ra1, Th, K) content of the rocks in Hungary was performed by the Mecseki Ércbányászati Vállalat (Mecsek Ore Mining Company) until 1990, when uranium exploration was stopped in Hungary. Aim of the analyses was to research U sources, therefore, rocks supposed to contain perspective U accumulation were mainly studied. The aim of this paper is to elaborate many thousands radiological data of granitoid rocks, gneisses and amphibolite-like metamorphic rocks coming from Southern Transdanubia (south of the Szekszárd-Kaposvár-Kutas line to the state boundary, and east of the Kutas-Csokonyavisonta-Barcs line to the Danube).

  • Incidents Which Have Occurred on the Frontier Between Hungary and Yugoslavia
[Communicated to the Council Official No.: C.190. M.79. 1934- VII. and the Members of the League.] Geneva, May 12th, 1934. LEAGUE OF NATIONS INCIDENTS WHICH HAVE OCCURRED ON THE FRONTIER BETWEEN HUNGARY AND YUGOSLAVIA COMMUNICATION FROM THE HUNGARIAN GOVERNMENT Note by the Secretary-General : The Secretary-General has the honour to communicate to the Council, for consideration, the following letter, dated May 8th, which he has received from the Hungarian Government. LETTER FROM THE HUNGARIAN MINISTER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS TO THE SECRETARY-GENERAL OF THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS. Budapest, May 8th, 1934. On behalf of the Royal Hungarian Government, I have the honour to communicate to you, and through you to the Council of the League of Nations, the following application : Subject of the Application. The Hungarian Government has for several years past been watching with the greatest anxiety the serious incidents that are continually occurring at the frontier between Hungary and Yugoslavia in consequence of the patently hostile attitude of the Yugoslav authorities and officials towards the Hungarian population. Those authorities and their officials are con stantly—and, it would seem, systematically—committing acts and taking measures which result in fatal incidents and other atrocities and deplorable occurrences. The outcome of all these proceedings is a situation unparalleled in Europe, and one of which the gravity cannot but be realised. Reasons. 1 he countless complaints made in this connection by the population of the frontier-zone against the Yugoslav authorities, and also the attitude of the Yugoslav Government in refusing to make any attempt at a direct settlement of the dispute in question, make it imperative to appeal to an international authority.

Th is work introduces the Commission’s staff and presents its operating methods and the results of its work, as well as its rela- tions with federal institutions in Belgrade. Key words: Federal state of Croatia, Democratic Federal Yugoslavia, Hun- gary, Baja Triangle, Border Commission, alteration of borders. Introduction At the end of the Second World War in Europe, preparations commenced for a peace conference that would determine the peace conditions for the defeated states. Th e status of the defeated states was infl uenced by various factors: the time of their transfer to the Allied side, their armed contribution to the Allied victory or the number and strength of the victorious states which had territorial demands against their territories. Th e Democratic Federal, or Federal People’s Republic of Yugoslavia came out of the war as a victor and as the legal successor to the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. Th is meant that it could place before Hungary the matter of Hungarian occupation of territories such as Prekomurje, Međimurje, Baranja and Bačka during the Second World War and seek material and territorial compensation.

17 KITAIBELIA XIII. évf. 1. szám pp.: 17-28. Debrecen 2008 Adatok a Baranyai-dombság flórájához PURGER Dragica Pécsi Tudományegyetem, TTK, Biológiai Intézet, Állatökológia Tanszék, H-7624 Pécs, Ifjúság útja 6.

It aims to guarantee the effective and lasting preservation and protection of Jewish cemeteries and mass graves throughout the European continent. Identified by the Hebrew phrase Lo Tishkach (‘do not forget’), the Foundation is establishing a comprehensive publicly-accessible database of all Jewish burial grounds in Europe, currently featuring details on over 9,000 Jewish cemeteries and mass graves. Lo Tishkach is also producing a compendium of the different national and international laws and practices affecting these sites, to be used as a starting point to advocate for the better protection and preservation of Europe’s Jewish heritage. A key aim of the project is to engage young Europeans, bringing Europe’s history alive, encouraging reflection on the values that are important for responsible citizenship and mutual respect, giving a valuable insight into Jewish culture and mobilising young people to care for our common heritage.
