American Network gets behind #YouAreWelcomeHere message

How everyday Americans can be ambassadors for the USA

Seattle, WA (April 4, 2018) – The American Homestay Network (AHN-USA) is encouraging American families to open their homes to international students and let them know “You are welcome here”.

The company, along with their Australian counterpart the Australian Homestay Network, has placed over 40,000 students in homestay accommodation throughout the United States and Australia.

While over a million international students were studying in the U.S. in 2016/2017, data from the Institute of International Education found the number of new students coming to America had declined since 2015/2016.

CEO of AHN-USA, Julie Manche, said participating in the #YouAreWelcomeHere campaign and activities such as homestay helped affirm that the U.S. is open to people from across the globe.

“Homestay hosting is a fantastic example of how everyday families can be ambassadors for the USA.

“By welcoming international students into their homes, lives and communities, hosts are showing international students that America is a safe and friendly place to live and learn,” Ms Manche said.

Ms Manche said hosts had an integral role in AHN-USA’s commitment to the #YouAreWelcomeHere campaign.

“Homestay embodies what the “You are welcome here” message is all about.

“When someone signs up to become an AHN host they are committing to opening their homes and their hearts to a stranger to help them find their feet in a new country. But by the time a homestay is over, many of our hosts have developed a lifelong connection with their guest, Ms Manche said.

AHN hosts feature in the company’s “You are welcome here” marketing which includes photo and video posts on , and as well as a dedicated page on the AHN website.

“This is a great opportunity for us to show that we the people of the United States want international students here and we are ready to welcome them," Ms Manche said.
