276. 17 dry plate negatives and digital images of Whale Ships at Taber’s Wharf, New Bedford. 1906 & 1907. Some notes from unknown photographer.

277. Boat (in box marked, “Nina) made by Charles Sherman, New Bedford, Mass.

278. Stanley (London) Rolling Navigational Rule of German silver. Boxed.

279. John Bruce & Sons (Liverpool) Sextant with 1918 certification and 1940s New Bedford provenance. Sextant appears complete and in excellent condition.

280. Dobbie McInnis & Clyde (Glascow) “Depthometer”. Unusual depth recorder. In box with instructions.

281. U.S. Naval Hydrographic Office (Washington). 1 meter rule scaled for mapping bottom topography over 10 kilometer transects.

282. Steward & Son (London) pocket sextant.

283. Hansen Patent Bearing Board with patent papers.

284. Lithograph – “Perry’s Victory on Lake Erie” published in 1848 by Kurz & Allen, Chicago. Ca. 1848.

285. Three Hans Kleiber ( 1887-1967) pre-1936 etchings: “Flying Ducks” , “Duck Blind” and “Grouse Hunter”. All three were originally framed by Goodspeed’s in Boston in 1936.

286. Small decorative horn goblet with base and stem turned from horn, ivory, walrus ivory, and/or baleen.

290. New England Whale Oil Lantern. New England Glass Co. 1854 Patent.

292. Pair of 19th c. glass whale oil lamps and single two-burner whale oil lamp.

293. English Pewter measure – 1 pint. Signed and hallmarks.

294. Gold head presentation Gentleman’s Cane. Dated 1862. Presented from the Walworth Co (Boston metal tubing maker, later Stillson wrench manufacturer) to E. B. White. White was superintendent of the Fitchburg Railway, and later to become president of the Boston & Worcester Railroad. He owned a whale ship, the “E.B. Phillips. Later he set up the Wisconsin State Railway System. The city of Phillips, Wisconsin was named in his honor.

295. “The Wellington Knife Board.” 19th Century kitchen knife honing board.

296. Rare and early Joseph Sanford Barrel Gage. Made by Joseph Sanford in Aug, 1822 in Newport, RI. It calculates the volume in various shapes of casks.

Joseph Sanford Bung Gage. Made by Joseph Sanford in 1835 in Newport, RI. Retains the rare brass for accurately gaging the inside diameter of a cask. Both this and the former gages are also marked with the name D. Coggeshall, probably a retailer and possible descendent of one of the founding families of Newport.

Unusually large bung starter .

299. Three shipbuilder’s planes, 2 and compass .

300. Four lignum vitae shipbuilder’s , including a lignum vitae rams-horn scraper; a lignum vitae sailor’s fid; a large lignum vitae serving mallet (provenance to the Newport, RI yacht “Aloha” ca 1927), and a lignum vitae blocking mallet (with the same provenance.).

301. Smaller camphorwood chest with brass bails. Key included.

305. Ship’s wheel desk clock. Marked Chelsea and Tiffany & Co. “Comet” model, circa 1949-50. 306. Walrus ivory-handled skinning knife.

307. Two sailmaker’s seam rubbers. One fancy ebony, the other Liberty penny decorated.

Two 19th c. 10 in. whalebone sticks. Probably used to beat time during chanteys and songs sung on whale ships.

308. Beechwood sailmaker’s chest, dovetailed with rope beckets. Complete contents.

309. Rare Victorian hand mirror framed by the dried body of a round stingray (Urolophidae).

Tri-fold traveling vanity mirror with beveled glass and embossed leather back.

310. Royal Doulton plate - “Battle of the Nile” and Villeroy & Boch ship plate.
