ARTISTIC TEAM: Director: Adam Isbell Assistant Director: Rebecca McDowell Choreographer: Jodie Schrier Music Director: Layne Roberts Vocal Coach: Amber Babcock Stage Manager: Kathleen Baker REN MCCORMACK

About Ren: A fun loving, quick-witted and very outgoing teenage boy from Chicago. Ren is seen as a young rebel always getting into trouble, but at heart he is dealing with the pain of his father's absence and his new surroundings. He emotes this pain through his quirky sarcasm and by dancing.

What I’m looking for: You must be a triple threat. You need to be very strong in acting, singing and dancing. Ren needs to be multi-dimensional. He must have a rough exterior but still be able to let the audience relate to him and see his vulnerability; I want to see a confidence that can sometimes border on cockiness but never to the point where he’s unlikable.

Audition Monologue: *You MAY be asked to read this after your initial vocal audition* And it was King David….King David who we read about in Samuel. And what did David do? What did David do?....(Stalls trying to find passage) What did David do? (He finds it) Ah! “David danced before the Lord with all his might. Leaping and dancing before the Lord. Leaping and dancing. And Ecclesiastes assures us that, “There is a time to every purpose under heaven- a time to laugh and a time to weep. There is a time to mourn and there is a time to dance.” There was a time for this law, but not anymore. And this is our time. Our time to celebrate life. That’s the way it was in the beginning, the way it’s always been and that’s the way it should be now. Thank you.

This song is for Callbacks ONLY: Audition Song: I Can’t Stand Still Cut: 1:17-end “oh I thought it never would end…” Version: “I Can’t Stand Still” from footloose karaoke/instrumental by AngelsBdwyKaraokes ARIEL MOORE

About Ariel: Daughter of Reverend Moore. She acts out against her father to get attention. She’s got a good heart but doesn’t like living up to the expectations of a preacher’s daughter. She is strong willed, sharp tongued, rebellious and aware of her sensuality.

What I’m looking for: You must be a triple threat. Singing and acting are the most important but she must be able to dance strongly as well. You have to be rebellious but not to the point where the audience frowns upon her or doesn’t sympathize with her; Ornery

Audition Monologue: *You MAY be asked to read this after your initial vocal audition* Daddy? I know it’s hard for you, and I know I don’t make it any easier. It’s just that I don’t know if I believe in all the things you believe in. But I believe in you. Get some sleep. You have a sermon in the morning.

This song is for Callbacks ONLY: Audition Song: Cut: 2:00-end “up where the mountain…” Version: Holding Out For a Hero (instrumental) by Tracks REVEREND SHAW MOORE

About Shaw: The Spiritual leader of Beaumont. Has a hard time communicating with Ariel, but still loves her. He is a stern, strict, solemn man with a booming voice who runs the town with an iron fist; However, he also has a tender side. He is heartbroken over the loss of his son and covers it with piety.

What I’m looking for: Acting is the most important for this part. You must be a good singer too and no dance skills are required. At the start of the show he seems like the villain but throughout the show he must be able to convey his heartbreak and vulnerability to get the audience on his side. We need to see that he’s just trying to do right by everyone. He has the biggest progression in the show; Passionate, Tormented

Audition Monologue: *You MAY be asked to read this after your initial vocal audition* I’m standing before you this morning with a very troubled heart. You see, my friends, as your minister, I should be helping you to find the joy in your lives; last night I realized that I haven’t been doing that. After all, we all remember that terrible night five years ago when the lives of four young people ended on the Potawney Bridge. Everyone in this community lost someone that night- a child, a neighbor, a friend. I- Vi and I- we lost our son. Ariel lost her brother. Now, somehow I got it into my head that my loss was the greatest. That my pain was the deepest. And then, last night, someone much younger than I made me realize how tightly I had been holding onto that memory. A memory that has weighed me down as surely as a great stone. And in that moment, I did something I haven’t done for a very long time: I laid down my burden. It was a terrifying moment. And it was exhilarating. This morning I offer you the same opportunity.

This song is for Callbacks ONLY: Audition song: Heaven Help Me Cut: 1:18- end “see everyone prays for salvation…” Version: Karaoke musicals-footloose-heaven help me by JavertRA WILLARD HEWITT

About Willard: A simple, big tempered country boy who loves his mama and has a warm heart. He quickly befriends Ren and shows him the rules and regulations of living in Bomont.

What I’m looking for: You must be a triple threat. Acting and dancing are the most important but he also has a solo so he must be able to sing as well. He needs to have a country accent. Must be likable. A lot of his lines are written for laughs but he’s not ever trying to be funny; Friendly, Eager

Audition Monologue: *You MAY be asked to read this after your initial vocal audition* If Chuck sees you flirting with Ariel, you are a dead man….and that uniform makes you look like such an asshole, it’s easier to pick you out. She is onto you like a hog on slop. Ariel likes trouble. And you have definitely proved to everybody in this town that you are T-R-U-B-L. .

This song is for Callbacks ONLY: Audition song: Mama Says Cut: 2:38- end “and mama says it doesn’t matter…” Version: Footloose Mama Says You Can’t Back Down DEMO KARAOKE by KeyeStudioS RUSTY, WENDY JO & URLEEN

About These Girls: Rusty- Ariel's best friend. Has a crush on Willard. Strong- willed, humorous and feisty. Rusty is the leader of the pack when Ariel’s not around Wendy Jo and Urleen- Ariel's two other friends. Each of these girls have their own quirks and personalities.

What I’m looking for: Rusty- Singing is the most important for this part but you also must be a strong actor. You have to be able to move but are not expected to be the strongest dancer. The audience needs to root for her and Willard to get together so I need to see that schoolgirl crush really played into; Confident, Playful Wendy Jo and Urleen- Both must be strong singers that can harmonize really well. These two are expected to also be pretty strong dancers. Must be fully realized unique characters so acting is also important.

Audition Monologue: *You MAY be asked to read this after your initial vocal audition* And that’s when Reverend Moore got so righteous. He started blaming anything and everything- liquor, drugs, rock and roll...dancing. He convinced the Town Council that it was all a sin and….just like that, they passed this law. Reverend Moore? He is the power. He is the law. It’s not like Chicago. It must be so cool to live in a city where you can walk down the street and get mugged by people you don’t even know. .

This song is for Callbacks ONLY: Audition song: Somebody’s Eyes Cut: 3:11-end “never laugh to loud…” Version: Somebody’s Eyes (in the style of footloose- the musical) by Ameritz Karaoke- topic CHUCK CRANSTON

About Chuck: Ariel's "bad boy" boyfriend. He’s a loser who has no ambition and is always stirring up trouble. Chuck is a high school dropout/ drug dealer so he demands respect but doesn’t deserve it. He is rough, controlling, abusive and jealous

What I’m looking for: Acting is the most important for this part. You must be a strong singer as well and are only required to have minimal dance skills. Chuck is the villain of the show so I need the audience to root against him; Arrogant, Malicious, Angry

Audition Monologue: *You MAY be asked to read this after your initial vocal audition* Ariel, what the hell’s going on? We had a date a half an hour ago. I don’t like you making a fool out of me. When I say “meet me at eight,” what am I- talking to myself? I know what your friends think of me. And that’s bullshit. I’m the best party in this town, baby, and those three dogs oughta be tied up under the porch. Let’s go. .

This song is for Callbacks ONLY: Audition song: The Girl Gets Around Cut: 0:24-1:21 “Well she’d like you to think she was born yesterday…” Version:The girl gets around (in the style of footloose - the musical) by Ameritz Karaoke - topic VI MOORE & ETHEL MCCORMACK

About The Moms: Vi- Ariel's mother, Rev. Moore's wife. Supportive of her husband but has her own opinions. Strong-willed, but kind. She feels she is losing her husband and daughter and doesn't know what to do. She ultimately has been responsible for holding her family together after the loss of her son.

Ethel- Ren's mother. Has to be strong for Ren after his father leaving- her own emotions show through occasionally.

What I’m looking for: Vi- You must be a strong singer and actor. No dance skill is required. We must be able to sympathize with her and see that she’s trying to do right by her husband and daughter which sometimes puts her in the middle. We must see that constant struggle. She is verging on meek most of the time, but has breaking points where she speaks her mind; Compassionate, Kind-hearted

Ethel- You must be a strong actor and singer. No dance skill is required. She needs to be confident and speak up for herself and her son. Must be likable and relatable; Protective, Defeated

Audition Monologue: *You MAY be asked to read this after your initial vocal audition* Shaw, if you’re angry with Ariel, please tell her why. You two speak and nothing gets said. The more you object, the more intrigued she’s going to be. I pray that her infatuation with Chuck Cranston lasts no longer than mine with Elliot Criswell.
