BPP University School of Foundation and English Language Studies

BPP University’s School of Foundation and English Language Studies offers foundation and English language courses to students whose first language is not English. Our state-of-the art study centre is conveniently located in Shepherd’s Bush in central London with excellent transport links. We have expertise in the design and delivery of both face-to-face and online programmes.

The School is located in Shepherds Bush with an overground rail station, Shepherd’s Bush bus station, and London Underground Central and Hammersmith & City lines all converge at Westfield Retail Park, which holds over 700 fashion stores, 300 places to eat, and is a five minute walk from our study centre. There is also easy access from both Paddington and King’s Cross stations.

Our teaching and learning approach

Our approach to English language teaching draws on both expertise in a professional context as well as drawing on a genre approach to teaching English in an academic context. We place our students at the centre of all our teaching. Our approach to teaching English for business draws on a content and integrated language learning approach combining the content of business with language development. We have a strong commitment to both face-to-face and online learning and our expertise in these areas is reinforced by our staff.

Our staff

All of our staff hold postgraduate qualifications in the teaching and learning of English (DELTAs, MAs) and have several years of experience. Here is a breakdown of some of our staff:

David Donnarumma is Head of English for BPP University. Julian Yeo has worked in English teaching (EFL) since 1996. He started his career in EFL by working in Europe teaching general

English and business English classes. On returning to the UK he specialized in teaching English for Academic Purposes, first of all at Brunel University in West London for 8 years, and more recently for BPP University for the past 2 years. At BPP University Julian is responsible for all of our English language assessment, and developing courses and materials for business students. Julian is currently involved in presenting workshops on teaching international students and writing a paper to present at a conference on assessment in higher education.

Jonathan Dunn has worked for BPP for almost two years. In this time, he has been Module Leader for English for academic purposes (EAP) modules in both business and legal contexts. He has an MA (TESOL) from the , a PGCE (Secondary: Citizenship with History) from the , and the Cambridge DELTA. He has taught EAP since

2012 and has been teaching in the UK and overseas since 1999. He also has experience of online teaching. In terms of scholarship Jonathan has delivered papers and workshops at Academic Conferences around the UK.

Accomodation will be located just 8 minutes walk from Holloway Road Tube station (Zone 2, Piccadilly Line). A mixture of stylish students rooms and shared flats with kitchens finished to a high standard. This residence offers the security and comfort of having an on site management team who are always happy to help. All floors are covered with cctv cameras and there is a staff or security personnel at the reception 24hrs a day.
