• From the Vedic side, this is the most auspicious time to be here: the outcome is our ascension. • The story is about how we are no longer having to go through doing something we don't love; when we love what we do, we get wisdom, joy and ecstasy from it and this is supported by the universe as the quantum physics law come into play • What is being said is that the quantum physics laws are affecting our reality; also there are those who do not wish to play within the laws of love. Rebel! The lunar eclipse in Aquarius says "Blow it off! Revolt!" Against what may be the question that follows haha! My work? My partner? The world? My self? God/dess? And the point is? For what? If not this, then what? Yup, a good time to reflect on just what we're doing, why, and whether the path forward should be in the same direction we have been heading.

As I mention in the report and the mantra, this can be a time of revelation as well as rebellion, and our eyes may be opened to new pathways, understanding, and direction. The eclipses always bring in new energies from deep space that can upset the normal operations of our lives. At first these can be upsetting, but in the long run they lead us down the road of fuller Self expression. Open up to see and hear the NEW!

Lastly, as mentioned in the report, we may just rebel against all the work we have been doing to simply STOP, notice how awesome this beautiful planet, our bodies and ourselves are, and take some time to make it more beautiful in a physical, tangible way. Not work, but art can be the means to rejuvenate, renew, and release our attachments to winning or maintaining some person, place, status, or thing. Go for it! Allow yourself the time to chill out and make something beautiful that has never been before. Injoy!

RI: the next new moon is at 10* Virgo – next solar eclipse – this is a lunar followed by a solar • the full moon – the earth is between sun and moon, so we get a regular dose of solar energies and then the reflected solar energies which bounce off the moon – and it's Leo energies aka fire! • There is also lots of Virgo and Pisces energy • we see the fire energies in CA and western states; Virgo - sign of swamp - in Louisiana • he is annoyed that the floods in LA, south Mississippi not being talked about by main stream media • Trump took a look around; Obama coming down on Tuesday – this flooding situation is more devastating than Katrina was & is not being discussed! Gerry: Dane Rudhyar was popular with the hippies RI: Amazon often has used copies; also recommends planets and transits , published by Para Research. Robert Hand – a master from 30-40 years ago. Like Tom Hayden! T: the stroke happened to Tom Hayden; just found out last Sunday night on Bioneers! The head of the Bioneers is also from 60s and the flower children – lots of millenials doing their thing in that group! Gerry: thinks NESARA is imminent: 14 years ago he drove into Griffith Park – gates open at 5 am; first street to the left, drove up the hill, facing the east – a shuttle craft from Sirius beamed a huge light in his direction and there was telepathic communication with him – told him to hang in – NESARA was forth coming – that was 14 years ago!!! So what is the current situation? Before the next elections? T: They don't give dates; they are not subject to 3rd dimension time frames!!!! Rama and T have been doing this since late 60s, early 70 years – doing this for 50 years! What is 50 years when you are wrapping up a yuga!

RI: as an astrologist, he has been looking at the implications of NESARA for the last 25 years – trying to figure out when it might happen! Especially as our extra dimensional brothers and sisters don't see time as we, the incarnated, do: they are immortal beings and understand time from that dimension; time is an issue that has no handle: time is a psychologic conditon – it has no dimension – he's been very frustrated about this!

RO: likely to occur before the Nov elections; asks RI what time period would be most likely RI: thought Pluto square Uranus would trigger it – Uranus square Pluto has been happening for several years: maybe when Uranus gets in Taurus there will be a trigger!

RO: Julian Assange to release material on Hillary in Oct; also the economy more likely than ever to bite the dust – two signs T: that's true – like Rama said earlier, even when St Germain appeared to the Founding Fathers and told them to sign, he didn't give dates – just said it was depended on all of us RO: R's contacts are saying the 2 running for office will not be the choice T: yet it is still about mastery and not taking anything for granted: even back at the time of Jimmy Carter, thought it was a shoo in and all of a sudden the others jumped the gun and we lost – then Ronnie Rayguns got in, was killed and Bush Sr had the reins for 3 terms!

Swiss investor Marc Faber is known for his pessimistic view of stock markets, and says the S&P 500 index could soon lose more than half of its value.

A rally since late June has the S&P 500 up nearly seven percent in 2016, setting new record-highs almost every day. Faber predicts the index could first grow to 2,300 points from the current 2,182 before the nosedive.

“Maybe we go first to 2,300, then we would have a perfect topping formation. A widening-top formation is about the most bearish technical formation you can have,” Faber said in an interview with MarketWatch.

The investor is referring to the so-called megaphone pattern that resembles a reverse version of a symmetrical triangle, which is a bearish signal indicating the current uptrend may be followed by a steeper downtrend.

“When it unravels, we are going to go to 1,100 on the S&P 500,” Faber said.

Faber, 70, is known for his criticism of central bank policies and the US economy. According to him, printing money may result in markets coughing up the “five years of capital gains”.

“We’re all on the Titanic. When things unravel a colossal asset inflation will burst,” he said.

Faber is often criticized by other analysts, as he has been unsuccessfully predicting the stock market collapse each year since 2012.

To this, Faber replied: “There are lots of people who always criticize me. First of all, they have no money. And I always tell them to send me their audited performance over the last 10 to 20 years and we’ll compare.”

“Everyone has good calls and negative calls,” he said.

Faber is known for advising his clients to rush from the stock market before the October 1987 collapse, dubbed as the Wall Street's Black Monday.

In the 2000s, he also correctly predicted the rise in oil prices, precious metals and other commodities, as well as emerging markets growth, led by China.

His most obvious failures are predicting a "100 percent chance" of a global economic recession in 2012 or 2013 that were followed by global growth. Last year, he predicted gold prices to skyrocket 30 percent in 2015. While they stumbled 14 percent last year, gold has gained 30 percent this year.

Here's more news you don't get in the US' mainstream media: John Jones 48, one of Britain’s top human rights lawyers who represented Julian Assange, was killed last Monday, when he was run over by a commuter train. The death is being called a suicide.

British Transport Police were called to the West Hampstead train station in North London at 7:07 AM on Monday, after a man was struck by a train. He was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene and his death is not being treated as suspicious.

Jones worked on the same team as actor George Clooney’s wife Amal. He specialized in extradition, war crimes and counter-terrorism; taking cases from the former Yugoslavia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Lebanon and Cambodia.

Jones lived in an expensive home in North London, with wife Misa Zgonec-Rozej, 40, a director of an international law consultancy, and his two children.

The news is particularly disturbing, as Democratic Strategist and CNN host, Bob Beckel appeared in a FOXTV interview and called for the assassination of Julian Assange (or more accurately, "Just kill the sonofabitch!")

Assange is believed to be planning a strategic "October Surprise" leak of a Hillary Clinton email, just prior the US Presidential Election. It purportedly contains information that will definitively put her behind bars.

California energy leaders, environmental scientists, and activists convened here last week in advance of the 25th annual Bioneers Conference at the Marin County Civic Center for an energy and climate strategy session that could have national and global implications.

Many in the assemblage had come to brainstorm about how to leverage California’s model energy policies to spur faster Federal action to protect the climate. Predictably, participants sought to boost renewable energy use in California and increase the state’s reliance on energy efficiency. Some were determined, however, not just to slash California’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, but to eliminate them altogether.

If this game-changing goal is widely adopted by the environmental community and by a vanguard of public officials, it would put California climate policymakers and others under pressure to advance the state’s already ambitious clean energy goals. That could help set the state and the nation on a faster track toward the holy grail of climate activists—an energy future free of fossil fuels and nuclear power.

The meeting was jointly sponsored by former California Senator Tom Hayden’s Peace and Justice Resource Center and by the Bioneers, an organization designed “to inspire, inform, and engage global citizen action.”

The technology to achieve 100% clean energy is here, Hayden asserted, and attendees seemed to accept without debate that this could be readily accomplished. “The problem is social, political, and cultural,” Hayden asserted. California, he said, has shown that it is possible to reduce both nuclear power and coal power while enjoying economic success.

California indeed has been a pioneer in energy efficiency and environmental protection since the first administration of Governor Jerry Brown in the 1970s. Ever since, the state’s landmark legislation has inspired federal legislation and standards controlling air and water pollution.

California’s energy efficiency standards for appliances, buildings, and transportation fuels in particular, have served as models for federal and international regulations, including the Obama Administration’s fuel efficiency standards. Far from impeding the economy, the state’s energy efficiency programs have cumulatively saved the state $70 billion since their inception.

With abundant renewable energy resources, California pioneered the generation of utility-scale solar thermal electric power in the Mohave Desert in the 1980s and, beginning in the early 1980s, was also the site of the nation’s first large wind farms. Decades earlier, the nation’s geothermal industry was born at The Geysers, near Calistoga.

The state now employs nearly 200,000 people in clean energy industries and plans to spend $120 billion over the next five years on clean energy, according to the Peace and Justice Resource Center. The state’s current Go Solar Program has a $3.35 billion budget and aims to get 3,000 MW of solar power installed in the state by the end of 2016, making solar an everyday reality.

California expects to have photovoltaic panels on a million rooftops by 2017, according to Bernadette del Chiaro, Director of the California Solar Energy Association. With the help of innovative incentive programs and rapidly declining solar costs, the state will have another million installed by 2020. “California has installed more solar in the last 18 months than in the previous 18 years,” del Chiaro noted.

California also plans to have 1.5 million electric vehicles on the road by 2025 and to build 1,000 charging stations for them. Under state Assembly Bill 32, California is committed to reducing its GHG emissions by at least 80 percent by 2050, and Wade Crowfoot, a deputy cabinet secretary in the Brown administration, says the state “will reach the target.”

In addition, all retail electricity suppliers in the state must provide 33% of their power from renewable sources by 2020. (State officials raised the target in 2011 from 17 percent in 2017.) Now, however, state energy activists like former-Senator Hayden are urging that the state double the pace of GHG reductions by 2030.

Many meeting participants were also committed to having environmental and social justice concerns incorporated into the state’s campaign for clean energy. California’s clean energy economy should be scaled up in ways that create thousands of new well-paying jobs in the clean energy and efficiency sectors, they urged.

This may prove to be the most important resolution to emerge from the meeting. The approach offers a big tent to the vast majority of Americans who are suffering in a stagnant economy and a desultory job market. They would gladly support a clean energy and efficiency campaign if it provided for an economic revival.

Vien Truong, Environmental Equity Director of the Greenlining Institute, urged the audience to make the connection between poverty and air pollution, building “truly collaborative movements and partnerships.” By engaging potential allies early in campaigns, she said, we will be working for

Her message was underscored by Katie Hoffman, Campaign Director of the California Student Sustainability Coalition. “We need to build alliances with disadvantaged communities,” she said, including the coal miners who are victims of fossil fuel policies.

Dan Jacobson, Director of Environment California urged widening the climate protection movement to include a broader base of labor, environmentalists, and students. Hayden also called for bringing labor unions into a clean energy movement that promises clean jobs.

Calling California the “rock star” of the clean energy movement, Annie Notthoff of the Natural Resources Defense Council captured the spirit of the meeting when she urged participants to work to ensure that the clean energy economy is for everyone, not just for some.

The Heart is like Sekhmet, Great One of Magic . For our hearts are the wellsprings of magic.

We are living at one of the most important turning points in our civilization--as well as bringing in the Age of Aquarius. And one of the ways to deal with the changes and transformations coming is to understand that life does not emerge from competition and conflict as Darwin theorized, but from cooperation and connectedness. We have to understand this cosmic law if we want to create a healthy and creative future. We do better working together then alone, competing with the world. When our hearts are engaged, we know this truth.

Although billed as a lunar eclipse, this Full Moon barely touches the edge of Earth's shadow. So there's not the disruption of energies usual for an eclipse. You decide--if you have planets at these degrees, you might feel it more than others.

The Sabian symbol for the Sun at 26* Leo is: After the heavy storm, a rainbow. This is a beautiful, ancient symbol uniting Heaven and the Earth. All things are in balance when these two powers are in harmony. This is the harmony of Head and Heart. The beauty of a rainbow is especially poignant after the violence of a heavy rainstorm. First we have to face our Shadows, especially the Leo shadows of pride and self-centeredness and the Aquarius shadows of judgement and rigid thinking. Before his retrograde, Mercury opposes Chiron in Pisces on August 19 th and joins Jupiter in Virgo on August 22, opening the mind to the needs of the many and how we might help heal some collective wounds. It's another example of uniting the head and the heart, our logical mind and our intuitive, feeling heart.

The Sabian symbol for Mercury retrograde at 30* Virgo is: Totally intent upon completing an immediate task, a man is deaf to any allurement. 30* of an sign is important--it's the culmination of that sign's energy. Can we stay focused on our work like this man? Can we complete the task of this year--to find our unique Self and Truth as we shed the lies of patriarchy?

Venus is also in Virgo and having connected to the Neptune/Saturn square earlier in the monthn now joins Jupiter and then Mercury at the end of the month, once again aligning our heart and head as we head into the fall and our harvest time here in the North. 2016-08-20 Saturday History Call 27 / 34 2016-07-21 August 2016 - Turning a Major Historical Corner Carl Boudreau· https://www.facebook.com/notes/carl-boudreau/august-2016-turning-a-major-historical- corner/10210306646410999 August’s Aspects August and September, with their series of 3 eclipses, will mark a pivotal point in the breakdown of the global oligarchy - in the breakdown of the global political and economic power of the 1%. In this post, I will focus on the first of these eclipses, taking place at the Full Moon of August 18 UT. The good news is that we are beginning a phase in the transition away from global oligarchy that we have been looking forward to. The bad news is that it will be a long and difficult transition.

The Lunar Eclipse at the Full Moon on August 18, UT The North Node gives eclipses their meaning. Presently, the North Node in Virgo is strongly expressing the need for an objective, down-to-earth and selfless approach to resolving numerous and still rapidly increasing global issues.

By all accounts, the forces of oligarchy represent the opposite of the values supported by the Virgo North Node. So, logically, this pivotal battle should and probably will be decided in favor of the 99%. Ultimately.

It just will not be an easy or quick victory and the outcome is not fully guaranteed. The conflicts in the chart will play out in the realm of communication. These conflicts will also be intense. The communication process itself is seriously afflicted, though. Resulting conflicts are highly likely to overflow into behavior, and not always in a good way.

To understand the astrological source of these difficulties, we need only look at a few of August’s more prominent aspects.

August’s Version of the Mutable T-Square The dominant aspect in the August 18 eclipse chart is an updated version of the mutable T-Square that has dominated the charts since it took shape in the fall of 2015.

The base of this T-Square sets, as it always has, along the critically important nodal axis, the line connecting the North and South Nodes. There is no more sensitive or powerful axis in the astrology chart.

The energies affecting the nodal axis are powerfully communicated to every region of and aspect in the chart. And in this chart, there is a lot of complicated, difficult and downright dangerous stuff going on along the nodal axis. Or should I say, the most dangerous stuff going on in this chart directly affects the nodal axis.

In the August 18 version, or ‘iteration,’ of this T-Square, its base is formed by an opposition: retrograde Chiron opposes a Mercury/Jupiter conjunction. The nodal axis, then, is heavily afflicted by this highly problematic aspect. This same aspect will seriously resist the work of the North Node in Virgo, and vice versa.

2016-08-20 Saturday History Call 28 / 34 The Unusual Power of the Mutable T-Square During August’s Lunar Eclipse The power of the mutable T-Square is augmented by an unusually powerful Mercury. Mercury has had its muscular little fingers in a lot of pies lately; it is affecting many lines of causality and synchronicity and will continue to do so into the future. This is very clear in August’s eclipse chart. Mercury transited (eclipsed or occulted) the Sun on May 9th at the time of Jupiter’s return to forward movement. This renewed and foregrounded Mercury’s power. Also, the simple fact that Mercury will be near the North Node during the eclipse will increase its importance.

When everything is taken into account, Mercury is the strongest planet by far in the dispositor chart of the August eclipse. It overrides the importance of strongly placed Sun and Neptune, each in their own home sign.

Mercury also ‘disposes’ of, or channels, the influence of the Moon, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Pluto. It’s complicated, but this lineup in the dispositor chart puts these bodies at a considerable disadvantage.

Their power is subordinated to that of diminutive Mercury. The great energetic river formed by their combined streams must all flow through Mercury’s narrow gate, with considerable complications along the way.

This will create severe bandwidth issues throughout the month. The elements of this potent and complex but tangled stream of energies will struggle mightily to express themselves simultaneously through Mercury’s comparatively narrow and highly specialized modalities. They will frequently find themselves competing aggressively with each other for passage. Then they will struggle mightily to escape Mercury in Virgo’s many narrow filters.

It is difficult to overstate the scale of Mercury’s influence during the August eclipse. It is equally difficult to overstate the degree of Mercury’s affliction. The astrological handicaps under which it will labor to perform its inordinately difficult task will be numerous and daunting.

A Powerful Mercury, Powerfully Afflicted There will often be insuperable obstacles to successful communication at all levels in August and beyond. Indeed, simple, seemingly straightforward, routine communication can explode. In August, regardless of the seeming importance or unimportance of the issues, or how casual a conversation might seem to be at the time, it would be best to proceed with caution.

Overreaction is the order of the day. People will be primed to take offense and give offense in return. Sometimes it might just be best to hold your peace, no matter what you think is at risk. On the micro level, the result of miscommunication might be estrangement, lost friendships, broken agreements and lost partners. On the macro - or national and global levels - the results might be broken alliances, shattered treaties, and failed trade deals. Hostile, unguarded diplomatic exchanges might lead to open warfare.

2016-08-20 Saturday History Call 29 / 34 Mercury conjunct Jupiter is opposite Chiron Retrograde Much of the difficulty will come from retrograde Chiron’s opposition to the Jupiter/Mercury conjunction in Virgo. Retrograde Chiron’s negative potential is strongly enhanced. Retrograde Chiron’s opposition is likely to draw discussions in the direction of old bitterness, simmering grievance and lingering grudge. It can stir pain in wounds nearly forgotten but not fully healed. It can inflame feelings about real or imagined attacks on personal beliefs. A Chiron opposition is also a prolific source of imagined threat or offense.

The negative potentialities of retrograde Chiron’s opposition are multiplied by its nearness to Neptune, retrograde Nessus, the South Node and the influence of Pisces generally.

Retrograde Nessus will hasten the manifestation of negativity and quickly dredge up guilt and pain. The effect would be to diminish our sense of self-worth and darken our interpretation of other people’s motives.

Neptune will further increase the likelihood of confusion, weak, self-deceptive, even delusional reasoning. The South Node, for its part, will make errors in reasoning and all these other ill-advised seem attractive.

This combination of negative placements makes the odds of failed communication very high indeed.

None of these influences, alone or in combinati0n, would be conducive to successful communication and positive outcomes. Disagreement could arise completely unexpectedly and quickly become heated and even violent.

Mars/Saturn Conjunction in Sagittarius - a T-Square + Flint and Steel Mars and Saturn are conjunct in Sagittarius at the apex of the mutable T-Square. This fiery, explosive conjunction squares both poles of the Mercury/Jupiter/Chiron opposition during the eclipse.

This will further multiply the already considerable negative potential of the Mercury/Jupiter/Chiron opposition. In sum, it will dramatically raise the likelihood of miscommunication and worsen its consequences.

Retrograde Pluto is exactly conjunct the fixed star Vega, opposite the asteroid Vesta. During the August eclipse, a Pluto/Vega conjunction is exact to within about 16 minutes of arc - i.e., extremely exact. A Pluto/Vega conjunction is rare.

It occurs roughly every 248 years. It last occurred in about 1767-8 at the dawn of an era of world historical revolution.

Vega dramatically enhances charm, glamour and charisma generally. Pluto is an intensifier of feeling and a powerful motivator of radical, even revolutionary action. Combined, Pluto and Vega can generate intensely charismatic and thoroughly irrational appeal. This in turn can inspire fierce, unreasoning loyalty. This in its turn can inspire fanaticism and zealotry.

2016-08-20 Saturday History Call 30 / 34 The asteroid Vesta, for its part, governs earnest devotion to a principle or ideal. Opposite the exact Pluto/Vega conjunction, Vesta can easily produce a fiery clash.

This opposition takes place in cardinal signs, along the Capricorn/Cancer axis, its volatile influence will be complicated and compounded by the lingering power of the Uranus/Pluto square.

This Pluto/Vega/Vesta influence, combined with the influence of the Chiron/Mercury/Jupiter opposition and the Saturn/Mars conjunction, is highly conducive to overheated, irrational rhetoric and the violence to which such rhetoric often gives rise.

Outcomes Might Not Be What You Hope Under the influence of the eclipse, negative tactics, no matter how appealing or even irresistible they seem, could backfire badly, either in the moment or in the future.

This would seem to put the offender at a disadvantage. However, in present circumstances, a penalty on the offender could easily overflow and engulf bystanders, including those offended. Regardless of whoever has the right of it, social unrest brought on by a violation of the North Node’s mandate, could overflow, translating into misfortune for the righteous too. Violence is contagious and unrest tends to overflow boundaries.

Consider Also The Asteroids - The Pervasiveness of Transformative Process It is clear from the nature of the mutable T-Square, placed so strongly in August’s eclipse chart, that August’s intense conflicts will largely be rooted in the realm of ideas and beliefs. It will be about the rightness or wrongness of beliefs, the soundness of arguments presented in their defense and the motives behind them.

Ideology will be pitted sharply against ideology, religious belief against religious belief, scientific theory against scientific theory, dogma against dogma, motive against motive, and everything in between.

Where the Asteroids Come Into It A consideration of the asteroids would give us a very clear idea of the scale of the process supported by the mutable T-Square and the possible scope of the conflict.

As I have tried to show in previous posts, the asteroids have a great deal to do with the ideas by which we govern our lives and our societies. If we add up the areas influenced by the better known asteroids (Ceres, Pallas, Juno, Vesta, Chiron, Pholus, Nessus, Chariklo, Ixion, Quaoar and Eris) we come up with whole worldviews full of ideas from around the globe.

Quaoar in August For the present, let’s consider the asteroid Quaoar and its role during the August eclipse. During the eclipse, retrograde Quaoar will be in all but perfect conjunction with the Galactic Center in Sagittarius. This conjunction is also rare. It occurs once every 286 years, give or take. The last such conjunction occurred during the run up to the historic revolutions at the end of the 19th century.

2016-08-20 Saturday History Call 31 / 34 Quaoar is associated with the creation and maintenance of large belief systems of all kinds. It governs our ability to keep our worldview up to date, and our ability to change it as knowledge and circumstance change.

Quaoar’s influence is all inclusive in this regard. It affects every facet of every existing belief system.

Not to put too fine a point on it, the Galactic Center is a major source, perhaps even the primary source, of transformative sacred energy. The precise conjunction of Quaoar and the Galactic Center sends immeasurably large amounts of transformative and uplifting sacred energy surging through the world’s belief systems. Especially with Quaoar retrograde in Sagittarius, it inspires the vigorous updating and upgrading of the totality of ideas in the totality of global worldviews.

Subjectively, the conjunction would make us feel an urgent need, even a sacred duty, to update and upgrade our beliefs - along with everyone else’s, for that matter.

The transformative energy from the Galactic Center will affect all of our beliefs. Nothing and no one will be excluded. Quaoar’s conjunction with the Galactic Center, then, will dramatically augment the transformative effects of the eclipse.

The Other Asteroids In the interests of brevity, let me just say that the other commonly observed asteroids are centrally involved in the dynamic of the Mutable T-Square. These other asteroids are also strongly placed. Hence, the kind of reasoning applied to Quaoar will apply to the other asteroids.

The forces at work in August and beyond will inundate the totality of our global idea systems. We are slowly emerging from a time when greed was exalted to the level of a virtue. All respect for facts and sound reason was abandoned. Virtually the totality of the ideas that govern the conduct of our individual and collective affairs are now deeply flawed.

I don’t think we want to underestimate the scale of the impact that the upcoming eclipses, including August’s eclipse, will have. When an irresistible demand for truth collides with so many flawed ideas, trouble is sure to follow.

On an individual level, be careful what you say and to whom you say it in August and the weeks and months to follow. Listen carefully to what others say, also.

It will be far too easy to spark animosity, to overreact to an imagined insult, to mistake a lie for the truth, or vice versa. Nick Hanauer: I live in Seattle and I grew up in a family business. A bed pillow and down comforter manufacturing business and grew up in that business. Still own and help manage that business but starting other companies when I was very young and am now basically a technology entrepreneur and venture capitalist.

Laura Flanders: You were genius to invest in a company that maybe some people heard of called Amazon.

Nick Hanauer: Yeah, I had a very early interest in the internet and as luck would have it had a friend who had a early interest in the internet and his name was Jeff Bezos and so I became the first non-family investor in that and from that experience made a lot of money, obviously, and from that experience starting other internet companies including a company called Acquantive which was an internet advertising company you may not have heard of but we sold to Microsoft in 2007 for $6.5 billion. But dozens of others, I mean, I think I've helped with 35 companies.

Laura Flanders: Fair to say, you have a lot of money.

Nick Hanauer: I do.

Laura Flanders: You could be off, I don't know, vacationing in the Bahamas.

Nick Hanauer: Yup. I do that sometimes.

Innovation is how we solve problems and improve living standards. Innovation always creates disruption because it creates change. In a healthy society the rate of civic innovation must match the rate of technological innovation.

Laura Flanders: How are we doing?

Nick Hanauer: Well, in Seattle, Washington we're doing pretty well. Around the country we are not. A lot of the problems that the society faces can be thought of as the gap between technological innovation, disruption, and change and the pace at which we are adjusting to it.

Laura Flanders: Give us an example.

Nick Hanauer: Well, I mean, the minimum wage. So if the minimum wage had tracked inflation it would be $10 bucks. If it had tracked productivity gains it would be $20. What happened to the economy for good and bad reasons is that it became a service economy. It was a manufacturing economy with high wage jobs. It became a service economy with low wage jobs.

What's important for people to recognize is a barista at Starbucks who gets paid $8 an hour isn't less well-trained than an auto worker in prior years, doesn't create less value than an auto worker does, they're simply paid less because they have less bargaining power and that's a consequence of the changes in the economy.

We have to make adjustments for that to sustain the economy because if people don't have any money then who will capitalists like me sell to, right?

Laura Flanders: The implications of that are enormous and not just with respect to minimum wages. The transformation of the economy that you are talking about, what else does it affect?
