Toni Beckham PublicInformation On Saturday June 13, 2020 at Lincoln Park, we ,vill celebrate Juneteenth! \'{lhat is Juneteenth you may ask? It is the observance of the anniversary of the date that Benjamin Henderson slaves learned the Civil \Var had ended and they were free. It is a day-long compilation of activities for all families to enjoy. The day will be filled with live B -Laws Chair y entertainment, music and a host of kid's activities, along with art and craft vendors, food vendors and a health screening booth. The presentation of scholarships occurs Mishelle Neverson ,vith the city council, assembly members and congressman from our community. Activities Chair \Ve invite you and/ or your company to participate in TAAA's in this celebration and Me!JssaBarrett fundraiser. Your financial or in-kind support goes a long way to our continued Membership Chair presence in the lives of children.

We have planned a day of fun and entertainment and look forward to your participation in this local event. Mishelle Neverson Juneteenth (or June 19, 1865) is the date when slaves in the South finally received word Activities Chair that slavery had ended. Although there were rumors that were spread prior to this timeframe, emancipation was not realized until June 19, 1865 when General Gordon Melyssa Barrett Granger rode into Galveston, Texas and issued a General Order. This order was issued Membership Chair almost two and a halfy ears after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Lynette Jones Proclamation. This is a time to celebrate our contribution, present scholarship recipients, Newsletter Chair and present scholarship awards. Don't miss out!

General Membership Meetings -- The Tracy African-American Association meets at 10: 00 a. m. on the 1st Saturday of every month on the 3rd floor of Brookdale Tracy located at 35 5 West Grant Line Road, Tracy, CA 95376.

Applebee's Pancake BreakfastFundraiser - This fundraiser is designed to assist us in fundraising for scholarships while providing a fun time for our community to gather and enjoy breaifasta nd raffleprizes.

Adopt a School Backpack or Supplies Giveaway- TAAA adopts a school to provide backpacksor school supplies for the school year. We know that our schools are always in need of resources and we want to ensure we are helping our schools deliver high achievement.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast - This event, although not sponsored by the Tracy African American Association partners with the Black Student Unionsat Tracy High, West and Kimball High Schools. TAAA presents the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Image Award winner. At this event a speaker is chosen and provides reason to pause, acknowledge, and recognize the achievements of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. while motivating others to participate in building up racial harmony and cultural education in our community and country.

Scholarship Awards - As our global societycontinues to make technological advances it becomes imperative that African American youth are equipped to meet the challenges of the future. That future mandates a sound education, knowledge, skills, and abilities. TAAA seeks to assist the youth of our communityin their academic development by making available scholarships toward a college education. The purpose of the scholarship is to enrich educational opportunities for college bound African American students attending school in Tracy or Mountain House, California. Scholarships are awarded annually to high school seniors entering an accredited college or university.

Juneteenth - While it symbolizes the end of slavery. Juneteenth has come to symbolize for many African-Americans what the fourth of July symbolizes for all Americans --freedom. It serves as a historical milestone reminding Americans of the triumph of the human spirit over the cruelty of slavery. It honors those African-Americans ancestors who survived the inhumane institution of bondage, as well as demonstrating pride in the marvelous legacy of resistance and perseverance they left us. Thisevent provides our most significant annual funding for youth scholarships.

TAAA Installation Ceremony - Each year elections are held for alternating officers for two-year terms. This ceremony allows us to recognize new and existing officers while celebrating our illustrious membership. This also creates another networking opportunityfor the communityand members to get better acquainted, acknowledge the contributions of our previous officers, and introduce new officers.

Kwanzaa -A non-religious African American cultural celebration, Kwanzaa gives the communitythe opportunity to join in celebrating African American heritage and many important principles. OFFICERS

By-Laws Chairpe�son Benjamin Henderson is a field representative for CA State Senator Cathleen Galgiani. He works for the Senator in her Stockton District Office. He has worked for Senator Galgiani for about three years. Benjamin graduated from San Jose State University with a Bachelor's of Arts in Political Science, and a Minor in African American Studies. He was elected the student body president at San Jose State during his senior year. He is also a graduate of Humphreys College Laurence Drivon School of Law in Stockton. While, at Humphreys he was the president of the Black Law Students Association and served in the Student Bar Association. Education Chairperson Olinga Yarber-Alexander has been a member of the Tracy, CA community since 1988, and has recently joined the Tracy African American Association member. She is the former owner of a travel agency. During that time, she enjoyed her travels to Kenya, Tanzania South , Ghana Namibia and Malaysia. Her previous jobs have included research lab technician, retail sales and a security worker. She is presently a notary and notary signing agent for the State of California. The Soror earned her B.A. Degree in Social Science and Masters in Higher Education with an emphasis in Student Affairs. Olinga has been married to Ameni Alexander for 24 years, and has adult children.

Membership Chairperson Melyssa Barrettis Vice President of Identity & Risk Products for Visa, Inc. Her responsibilities include global subject matter expertise for optimizing fraud and credit risk products for client financial institutions. Melyssa is also the CEO of Advanced Resolution Services, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Visa, Inc., where her responsibilities include managing operations for credit risk products offered. The 32-year VISA veteran has served as a member of the Board of Directors for the American Bankruptcy Institute and as an Advisory Council Member for the National Foundation for Credit Counseling. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for BALANCE (formerly known as Consumer Credit Counseling Service of San Francisco). Melyssa holds a BS degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. The Delta Sigma Theta Soror has three children and five grandchildren and has resided in Tracy since 1996. Melyssa has been a member of the Tracy African American Association since 1997 and operated in a number of leadership roles in the organization. Activities Chairperson Mishelle Neverson is mother of six and grandmother of two (ages 9 years and 9 months-old}. She has been a TAAA member for more than 16 years, having held several board positions. Mishelle is married to Dr. Michael Neverson, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Los Banos, California. Mishelle stands by his side as First Lady with honor to serve the LORD, as well as director of the First Lady Corner. Mishelle is a board member of the Manteca Street Fair, serving as vendor chair. She is an impassioned advocate for non-profit organizations addressing foster children. Mishelle Neverson holds a BS Degree in Social Service and a Master's in Business Administration, and plans to attend college in to earn her Ph.D. She is Western Regional Director of Uopsi Sorority who proudly crossed over in 2011. OFFICERS

President Yolande Baria[ Knight is employed as the Clerk of the Board for East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) for which her duties include: pTimary liaison between seven board members and staff, prepares and processes board packets, conducts bi-monthly board meetings, manages FPPC filings, and is custodian of EBRPD records. She is a notary public, published author, poet, and columnist for Golden Gate Newspaper's Tracy Press. Her monthly column, "Mother's Corner," is where her focus and passion have come together to write about experiences from a mother's perspective. Yolande is the mother of three fabulous children. She knows that "With God, All Things are Possible." Yolande has been a TAAA member since 2015 and has served as Juneteenth committee chair for several years. She is youth director and member of People of Christ Missionary Baptist Church (POC). Yolande Baria I Knight holds a B.S. Degree in Biology from Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Vice President Gwendolyn Whitew as born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, where in1981 she obtained an Associate's Degree in Nursing from Columbus State University. In 1987, she relocated to Northern California where in 1999, earned a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from the University of Phoenix. Gwendolyn has served in various leadership positions. She currently holds certifications in Basic and Advanced life support of both adults and children, and is a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant. The Tracy, California resident is a Certified Registered Operating Room Nurse and currently works at the Tracy Surgery Center providing bedside and surgical care. Gwendolyn S. White feels her most fulfilling accomplishment has been raising her two children to be responsible US citizens; both having attended and graduated from Tracy Unified School District schools and having received Bachelor's degrees from accredited schools of higher learning.

Treasurer Gary Cooper was born in San Francisco and grew up in the Bay Area. He retired after 40 years from UPS where he was charged with Transportation Services and Operations Management. Gary is an ordained minister and attends People of Christ Missionary Baptist Church (POC). He is a member of the ministerial staff, POC Brotherhood, a Sunday School teacher, and mid-week Bible study teacher. Gary C. Cooper earned a Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems and Master's Degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix. He is currently working to complete his Bachelor's Degree in Theology from the Bible Based School of Theology. Gary Cooper and Renee, his wife of 38 years, have lived in Tracy for nearly 20 years.

Public Information Officer

Phil William has over 25 years of experience in government projects and programs start-up management. His experience is in developing project/program plans, education/training programs, contract compliance, contractor certification. He is the founder and owner of GroupSync Solutions, LLC. A certified California Department of General Services (DGS) Small Business Enterprise (SBE) business support company. Specializing in team building, coaching, collaboration, partnering, change management, business analysis and technology for small businesses. He is a Facilitator for the International Partnering Institute (IPI) to promote education/training to share best practice and lessons learned in the construction industry. He is also the Associate Business Development Director for the Association for Talent Development (ATD) SF East Bay, Inc. Specializing in professional development, leadership training, knowledge engagement and learning resources.
