EAAM’s Soul Writer’s Guild Announces 2018 Kwanzaa Celebration Activities

(Evansville, IN) – The Evansville African American Museum’s Soul Writers’ Guild (SWG) will host the 2018 Kwanzaa Kick-Off Celebration from Wednesday, , until Saturday, December 29, 2018. The Celebration will start at 6-8 pm at the Evansville African American Museum located on 579 Garvin Street. Kwanzaa was developed by Dr. in the 1960s and is celebrated worldwide today. Being neither a religious nor military holiday, the Afrocentric celebration of the “first fruits of the Harvest” focuses on the qualities of family and community values that community members can carry into the .

The Community Kwanzaa Celebration will continue at various locations throughout the week. On Thursday, December 27, the Celebration will to the Evansville Boy’s and Girl’s Club, located at 700 Bellemeade Avenue. The festivities will be from 2-4pm. Finally, on Saturday, December 29, our celebration will wrap up at Zion Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1800 South Governor Street. The Celebration there will be from 12 noon until 2pm. All Kwanzaa festivities are free to the public, but donations and membership renewals to the Evansville African American Museum are encouraged at this time.

The EAAM Soul Writers’ Guild is a group established to give African American artists a unique environment and a nurturing platform to fully develop their talents and share best practices. The EAAM Soul Writers’ Guild hosts four events annually: Annual Bookfair, the Dr. John M. Caldwell Lecture Series, , and the Community Kwanzaa Celebration.
