Godspell was the first major offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner, Stephen Schwartz (, , ); and it took the world by storm. Led by the international hit, “Day by Day,” Godspell features a parade of beloved songs, including “Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord,” “Learn Your Lessons Well,” “All for the Best,” “All Good Gifts,” “Turn Back, O Man” and “By My Side.” A small group of people help Christ tell different by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques and a hefty dose of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to , is employed as the story of Jesus’ life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the and the , Jesus’ messages of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life.

AUDITION INFORMATION We will be holding auditions in a completely new way for this show! We will not be casting individual roles on August 27th but instead will be selecting the “Godspell .” After the company has been selected on Day 1, we will select individ- ual roles within the company on Day 2. There will be no distinction between dancers, actors, or ensemble members. Every- one will be auditioning for a position in the company. There are 26 positions in the Godspell Company, this does not include our tech crew, which will be selected at another time. The 26 positions are open to any student 6th through 12th grade. WHAT WILL AUDITIONS BE LIKE? Auditions will be very similar to a movement and vocal workshop. Students do not need to prepare any- thing for auditions. We will be doing movement exercises and learning a vocal selection from the score. Students will need to wear “rehearsal blacks.” We will be moving around a lot!

WHAT ARE “REHEARSAL BLACKS”? Plain black clothing that is easy to move in. Examples: Black t shirts, tank tops, black sweat-pants, or yoga pants. No shorts, skirts, or jeans should be worn. Tennis shoes, jazz shoes, or black socks should be worn. Do not wear character shoes or sandals.

HOW DO I PREPARE? • Research the show. What is the story? What is the overall message and theme of the play? • Be willing to have fun at auditions! • Come with the attitude of humility with an eagerness to learn and grow • Arrive with your application completed • Arrive in your rehearsal blacks, no exception

WHAT IF I DO NOT MAKE THE COMPANY? If you are not selected to be in this Main Stage production, all is NOT lost! There will be other opportunities to be a part of this production including Crew, Costumes, Props, Sound and Lighting assistants, ushering, and other positions such as concessions. We are building a Theatre Community that extends beyond a single production. If you are not IN the show it does not mean that you are not IN the community. Stay involved. Take theatre courses and take advantage of other opportunities to grow as a performer. Our community is one of Love, Humility, and Serving the Lord with our talents. Always keep your heart and mind in line with the love and humility of Jesus. In time doors will open for you to pursue your passion.
