TRADITIONAL FOLK DANCES of SOUTH-WEST SERBIA in TEACHING MUSICAL CULTURE and PHYSICAL EDUCATION (Professional Paper)
24Activities in Physical Education and Sport 2015, Vol. 5, No. 1, pp. 24-29 TRADITIONAL FOLK DANCES OF SOUTH-WEST SERBIA IN TEACHING MUSICAL CULTURE AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION (Professional paper) Biljana Pavlović1, Branko Popović2 and Nevenka Zrnzević3 1Teacher training faculty in Prizren-Leposavic, University of Pristina -Kosovska Mitrovica, Serbia 2Teacher training faculty in Užice, University of Kragujevac, Serbia 3Teacher training faculty in Prizren-Leposavic, University of Pristina-Kosovska Mitrovica, Serbia Abstract This paper analyzes the traditional folk dances of Southwest Serbia, from the standpoint of teaching music culture and physical education in the elementary grades. Special attention is given to dances accompanied by singing from the regions of Raska, Novi Pazar and Sjenice. The aim is to establish their presence and importance in music and physical education. Analyzed are the curricula of music and physical education, as well as music culture textbooks, to determine which dances of this region have been proposed for inclusion in the classroom teaching. It is concluded that the dances of southwestern Serbia are insufficiently covered by the curriculum of these two subjects and that they were omitted from the textbooks of music culture. For this reason, this work’s tasks were to analyze the musical-pedagogical and ethno musicological literature that deals with the area of Southwest Serbia; to select suitable examples to work with students of junior school age; to determine their educational importance in teaching. Through highlighted examples, the students will be able to learn about the specifics of the traditional folk dances of Southwest Serbia, and to gain insight into the richness and beauty of folk musical creativity of this region. -
The 1989 Tiananmen Square Protests in Chinese Fiction and Film
UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA Los Angeles Making the Censored Public: The 1989 Tiananmen Square Protests in Chinese Fiction and Film A dissertation submitted in partial satisfaction of the requirements for the degree Doctor of Philosophy in Comparative Literature by Thomas Chen Chen 2016 © Copyright by Thomas Chen Chen 2016 ABSTRACT OF THE DISSERTATION Making the Censored Public: The 1989 Tiananmen Square Protests in Chinese Fiction and Film by Thomas Chen Chen Doctor of Philosophy in Comparative Literature University of California, Los Angeles, 2016 Professor Kirstie M. McClure, Co-Chair Professor Robert Yee-Sin Chi, Co-Chair Initiated by Beijing college students, the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests—"Tiananmen"— shook all of China with their calls for democratic and social reforms. They were violently repressed by the Chinese state on June 4, 1989. Since then, their memory has been subject within the country to two kinds of censorship. First, a government campaign promulgating the official narrative of Tiananmen, while simultaneously forbidding all others, lasted into 1991. What followed was the surcease of Tiananmen propaganda and an expansion of silencing to nearly all mentions that has persisted to this day. My dissertation examines fiction and film that evoke Tiananmen from within mainland China and Hong Kong. It focuses on materials that are particularly open to a self-reflexive reading, such as literature in which the protagonists are writers and films shot without authorization that in their editing indicate the precarious ii circumstances of their making. These works act out the contestation between the state censorship of Tiananmen-related discourse on the one hand and its alternative imagination on the other, thereby opening up a discursive space, however fragile, for a Chinese audience to reconfigure a historical memory whose physical space is off limits. -

Roche Cárcel City Territ Archit (2021) 8:7 https://doi.org/10.1186/s40410-021-00136-z RESEARCH ARTICLE Open Access The spatialization of time and history in the skyscrapers of the twenty-frst century in Shanghai Juan Antonio Roche Cárcel* Abstract This article aims to fnd out to what extent the skyscrapers erected in the late twentieth and early twenty-frst cen- turies, in Shanghai, follow the modern program promoted by the State and the city and how they play an essential role in the construction of the temporary discourse that this modernization entails. In this sense, it describes how the city seeks modernization and in what concrete way it designs a modern temporal discourse. The work fnds out what type of temporal narrative expresses the concentration of these skyscrapers on the two banks of the Huangpu, that of the Bund and that of the Pudong, and fnally, it analyzes the seven most representative and sig- nifcant skyscrapers built in the city in recent years, in order to reveal whether they opt for tradition or modernity, globalization or the local. The work concludes that the past, present and future of Shanghai have been minimized, that its history has been shortened, that it is a liminal site, as its most outstanding skyscrapers, built on the edge of the river and on the border between past and future. For this reason, the author defends that Shanghai, by defn- ing globalization, by being among the most active cities in the construction of skyscrapers, by building more than New York and by building increasingly technologically advanced tall towers, has the possibility to devise a peculiar Chinese modernity, or even deconstruct or give a substantial boost to the general concept of Western modernity. -
The Time Regulation Institute As a Satirical Allegory Hilal KAYA1
Sosyal ve Beşeri Bilimler Araştırmaları Dergisi Güz/Autumn 2018, Cilt/Volume 19 Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities Researches Sayı/Issue 43 The Time Regulation Institute as a Satirical Allegory Hilal KAYA1 Abstract Research Paper This paper focuses on Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar’s The Time Regulation Institute (1961) as a modern satirical allegory in order to foreground the novel’s critical attitude to the mentality that equates modernization with Westernization. The paper aims to pinpoint that in The Time Regulation Institute Tanpınar intends to shed light on the issue of Turkey’s problematic engagement with modernity and modernization. Unlike A Mind at Peace (Huzur 1949), Tanpınar’s narration in The Time Regulation Institute is not structured around argumentative dialogues between the characters. Rather, the latter depicts Turkey in transformation as a consequence of the project of modernization; more precisely, this study aims to demonstrate that a version of Turkey before, during and after the transformation is humorously displayed. This study aims to contribute not only to the scholarship on Tanpınar’s fiction whose fictional works have rarely been examined as a satirical-allegory but also to the modernity studies. Keywords: Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, The Time Regulation Institute, Modernity nnd Modernization Studies, Satirical Allegory.

ABSTRACT The Place of Peyami Safa in Turkish Novel Novel is a new type in Turkish literature. Therefore, the first examples are simple in terms of language according to the poem which has a tradition. This is because language of prose is inadequate to tell life.
