ABSTRACTDesigned as an aid to researchers and others primarily interested in the ield of higher education, this bibliography lists docrmipritson higher education tha appeared in the January through June 1969 issues of RESEARCH IN EDUCATION (RIE). In addition to documents abstracted by the Clearinghouse on Higher Education, it includes documents on higher education that fall -within the scope of other clearinghouses and thus do not appear under the HE heading in RIE. The bibliogr.ap does not for the most part, however, include materials on educational facilities or junior colleges. The 613 entries fell within the subject areas of: alumni, curriculum and innovations, faculty, finance, foreign and education, governance, graduate and professional education, institutional structure, librarie services and personnel, planning and coordination, research, characteristi student role, teaching and learning, technology, university responsibility and social change. As well as the normal bibliographic inforzation, entries include data on the availability and price of the document and the issue of RIE in which t abstract appeared. A subject index is also included. Similar bibliographies will be prepared semi-annually. (JS) z

ERIC Clearinghouseon Higher Education The George Washington University Washington, D.C. 20006 (202) 296-2597 FOREWORD

The ERIC Clearinghouseon Higher Education, cne of nineteen clearinghouses establishedby the U.S. Office of Education, is concerned withtmdergraduate, graduate and professional education.. A basicinformati.on-gathering function of the clearinghousesis to abstract and irxlex documents pertaining to education. These abstracts then appear in Research in Education (RIE),a monthly publica- tion of the Office of Education. This bibliography listsdocuments on higher education that appeared in the January throughJune 1969 issues of RIE. n additic-n to documentsabstracted bythe Clearing- house on Higher Education, it includesdocuments on higher education that fall within thescope ofotherclearing- houses and therefore do notappear under an HE heading in RIE.Owing to the limitations ofspace, documents on edu- cationalfacilities are omitted,as are materials on junior colleges, unlessthe topic isdirectly related to four-year colleges and universities. Abstracts of documentsinthis bibliographyappear in the issue of RIE referred toin the lastline of each entry. Microfiche and hard copy of the completetext are usually available from the ERIC Document ReproductionService (EDRS) National Cash Register Company, 4936Fairmont Avenue, Bethesda, Maryland20014.Since compilation of the biblio- graphy, the hard copy price of eachdocument has increased 25 percent. Payment must be included for ordersof less than five dollars..Those documentsnot available from EDRS may be obtained from the institution listed in theentry. This bibliography, which will becompiled twice a year, is intended to make informationretrieval a less time-con- suming and mre efficient operationfor Members of the edc- cation community. We would appreciate suggestions that will make the publication more useful. We also hopethat inter- ested researchers, faculty members, students and administra- tors will help us include the most significant documentson higher education in theERIC collection by sendingus appro- priate materials induplicate. Please write to the ERIC Clearinghouse on Higher Education, TheGeorge Washington University, Washington, D. C. 20006.
