4 5 SELECTED SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES 27TH JANUARY 2015 Rubber Track Systems and Components Lieutenant General Sir Gary Coward KBE CB, Former Chief of Materiel (Land) & Quartermaster General Gary spent his early career in the Royal Artillery, serving in Germany and Northern Ireland. He trained as a helicopter pilot in 1978 and continued at regimental duty in the UK, Germany, Hong Kong and Brunei, transferring to the Army Air in 1983. On Engineering for Armoured Vehicles the staff, Gary has held posts in the UISA, UK and Bosnia. He commanded C Flight in Brunei, 656 Squadron in the UK and 1 Regiment AAC in Germany and the Balkans. More recently Gary has served in the MOD, the Joint Helicopter Command and the Permanent Joint Headquarters. In his final tour in the Army he was both Chief of Materiel (Land) and Quartermaster General. He was appointed OBE in 1996, CB in 2008 and KBE in 2012. Since retiring from the Army at the end of 2012, Gary has established a portfolio of non-executive and charitable roles. He maintains links with the Army through being a Trustee of the Sandhurst Trust, President of both the AOP Officers’ Association and the AAC Veterans’ Association and is a Deputy Colonel Commandant of the AAC.

Mr Philip Dunne MP, Minister for Defence Equipment, Support & Technology, British Government In September 2012, Philip was appointed Minister for Defence Equipment, Support and Technology with responsibility for Defence procurement and Defence exports. Mr Dunne is Member of Parliament for the constituency of Ludlow in Shropshire, which he has represented since 2005. Following the 2010 General Election Mr Dunne was appointed an Assistant Government Whip, having previously served as an Assistant Opposition Whip. In Parliament Mr Dunne has been a Member of the Work & Pensions Select Committee, the Public Accounts Committee and the Treasury Select Committee. Before politics, Mr Dunne had a twenty year business career. He has experience of business both big and small having worked for investment banks in London, New York and Hong Kong and having helped start and build businesses. His former chairmanship of a Venture Capital Trust reflects his enthusiasm for encouraging entrepreneurship in the small business sector. Brought up on the family farm near Ludlow, Mr Dunne read politics, philosophy & economics at Oxford University. He is married with two daughters and two sons.

Lieutenant General Michael Williamson, Principal Military Deputy to the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology, US Department of Defense LTG Michael E. Williamson assumed his duties as the Principal Military Deputy to the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology (ASA(ALT)) and Director of Acquisition Career Management on 4 April 2014. After attending Command and General Staff College, LTG Williamson served as the Chief of Information Technology, Acquisition Career Management, within the Office of the ASA(ALT). As a Congressional Fellow he served as a legislative assistant on Capitol Hill. LTG Williamson has served as Product Manager for the Global Command and Control System-Army; the Acquisition Military Assistant to the Secretary of the Army; Commander of Software Engineering Center-Belvoir; Project Manager Network Systems Integration within Program Manager, Future Combat Systems (Brigade Combat Team); Director of Systems Integration within ASA(ALT); Deputy Program Executive Officer, Integration and Joint Program Executive Officer for the Joint Tactical Radio Systems. After serving as the Assistant Deputy for Acquisition and Systems Management, LTG Williamson was selected to be the Assistant Military Deputy to the ASA(ALT). Colonel John Cavedo, Joint Light Tactical Vehicle Joint Program Office Manager, US Army Colonel John R. Cavedo Jr., is currently serving as the Project Manager for the Joint Program Office, Joint Light Tactical Vehicles. Major General Payenda Mohammad Nazim, Inspector General, Afghan Ministry of Defence & Brigadier General Imam Major General Payenda was born and educated in Kabul. He graduated from Afghanistan’s Military Academy in 1984 and from Kabul Staff High College in 1987. An artilleryman, he has also served as the Deputy Chief of Operations for the Guard Command at the Ministry Of Defense (1992-1994) during which he was promoted to Colonel (1993), and Chief of Operations for the Commandos and Special Forces (1994-1996). More recently he has served as the Secretary of the Afghan National Army’s (ANA) Revival and Disarmament, Demobilization and Re-integration Commission (2001-2003). He was promoted to Brigadier General in 2003 and Major General in 2005 as the Deputy to the AMoD for Strategy and Policy Until 2011. In his current position as the MOD Inspector General, he has been instrumental in the structural reform of the MoD and ANA and as well for the transition.
