Second Grade Distance Learning Week of April 29 – May 5 Music

This week we are learning about PERCUSSION INSTRUMENTS. Percussion instruments create sound by being hit, scraped or shaken. There are more different percussion instruments than in any other family. Many times, a percussionist will play several different instruments in one piece of music. Percussion instruments keep the , make special sounds, and add color and excitement. Some percussion instruments are PITCHED instruments, meaning they can play specific pitches, and therefore melodies. Examples of pitched percussion instruments include the , (also called ), , , and . Some people also consider the a pitched percussion instrument because hammers strike the strings to make sounds. Other percussion instruments are UNPITCHED, meaning they make sound but do not play a specific note. Examples of unpitched percussion instruments include the snare , drum, , , , triangle, , , and shakers.
