The Four Temperaments is a gift from The Volunteer Committee, The National Ballet of Canada. Choreography: Alexander Ekman Staged By: Nina Botkay* A Note on The Four Temperaments Music: Joseph Haydn, Ludwig Van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Andy Stein & Gustav Mahler+ Set to a rich and evocative score by Paul Hindemith, The Four Temperaments is a series of variations based on Set Design: Alexandar Ekman and Thomas Visser the ancient concept of the four humours – melancholic, sanguinic, phlegmatic and choleric. Created in 1946, the Costume Design: Alexander Ekman ballet heralded a new age in movement.
